How does your game fit the theme?
There are lots of doors that you go through and you find out what is on the other side.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Wrote all the code, and used some tutorials, graphics and sound were not me except for the particle systems I made.

Some parts of the game were a bit confusing and could do with providing some more feedback - I didn't realise that I needed a crowbar to open doors for a while and sometimes I wouldn't realise I was taking damage. Overall I like the idea though!

Developer

Thanks.

Hey!

This is a fantastic game. I had a lot of fun playing this. The doors were so random and cool, particles were great!
Nice job!

Thanks, the particle systems took way longer than they should have...

Almost a day and a half for the light that follows you.

Really like the idea of randomly spawning room things. I laughed out loud a couple times at what was behind the door - out of the frying pan and into the fryer for a couple of them. Great work!

Developer

Thank you.

Nice particles and level generation. It was nice that there were sounds to give feedback on the hits. A looping environment sound or a soundtrack would have helped with blending them better together aswell as some sounds for non hit attacks. Overall great effort!

Developer

I agree with all of those, but during the process I didn't think about the soundtrack... but a non hit attack sound effect is a good idea.

Interesting idea. I haven't seen many dungeon crawlers that are first-person. Obviously, could have used some polish, but I feel there is a foundation.

The doors sometimes not spawning in the first room likely resulted in a number of players who played your game giving up early.

I would have liked some music or at least some ambient sound. I feel it helps a lot with the atmosphere.

Melee combat is a nice choice for this type of game, although shooting-type mechanics, I find, are easier to implement.

The particle system was nice, especially when it changed color for the different enemies. Good luck with your future endeavors.

PS The dancing skeleton made me laugh out loud.

Thanks, I was thinking if i implemented more ranged attacks and mobs, I might be able to make it sort of like a rogue-lite but in first person. I am a single programmer not a visual or audio designer, so it is definitely lacking in those regards. I am thinking of making a ranged weapon in addition to the melee ones. the light with the particles took almost a day and a half, it was an unnecessarily long time.

I couldn't find the exit in the end, I was looking around for a while, but it was fun! :D Only issue I had is after restarting it put me in a room with no door or exit. Is the layout and spawn location randomly generated? We also wanted to randomly change the layout like that, but didn't have enough time left

Developer (1 edit)

Yes the whole maze is procedurally generated, this is a simple way to do it:

I made some tweaks to it though, to make it more maze like.

Developer

Also, I just remembered, by my calculations, it should take over an hour to finish the game... because of the procedural generation, it may take as little as 20 minutes or as much as over an hour.

Nice one! just I don't know why the fps are low, maybe you need to set fps on specific int as far as i know, other than that great!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I tried to do some optimizing stuff, like culling objects that were farther than so far. but i understand how there could still be low FPS.

Really cool game! A little bit rough on the edge but once I get used to things, it's a pretty awesome game! Keep up the good work :D

Developer(+1)

It definitely needs some help, but I think with a little more work it could be a lot better.

"Overall, I had a great experience with the game. It was enjoyable, but there is room for improvement, particularly in addressing a few bugs. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks.

Eventho there were some bugs here and there i still really enjoyed the game. Id love to see some more of your personal style in future projects but i fully get why you chose to stick to getting them. Still, great job!

Developer

Thanks, I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do in your game, sorry.

Developer

Ok, I figured your game out, it took a little bit, but it is very interesting. i think i like it and its very personalized

I enjoyed the game. I think there are still a few issues like there was no door in the spawning room once. After I played it for a bit and figured it out it was quite fun. Good job!

Developer

Yes the door issue is part of the procedural generation, i don't know what's wrong.

I could not get out of the starting room. I like the way you introduce the controls though.

Developer(+1)

You just have to pause it with Esc. then hit restart, then it will make a new map that you should be able to get out of.

Nice game! Some mechanics need a bit of work here and there. The doors opening outwards knocked me off the planks room into death which was hilarious. I like that you tried lots of different things and was pleasantly surprised to see that the rooms are different each time.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I tried.
