How does your game fit the theme?
You carry items to your boat and the focus is really on the before the storm part. Towards the end of the game the storm arrives and the game steps it up a level.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, we are all students from DAE- Digital Arts and Entertainment and are taught to develop games and make our own assets.

It's a pirate life YAAAARH! Neat game, I encountered a weird bug when the storm showed up, where I couldn't deliver the last item on the list, it just kept going "can't you read?" :( (Oh wait it might be the same bug Mr_LuckyLuc have and I just didn't notice it was two items :O )

I like the concept and presentation. I would have liked to see a few more frames of animation (not tweens but drawn frames) and the lane jumping is a bit sudden and the obstacles at the same time appear almost too quickly, so you can't really plan any strategy. I do think it was a fun experience :D good job!

I think it is a fun game but there a few things that put me off.

- The lane sitching felt a bit off tome

- I felt like the storm came really early, after one list or during the first even but reading other ppls comments it might be a framerate issue?

- I rarley got stunned when hitting stuff

- If the same item appeard on the list twice the second time it said I had the incorrect item (had this at least twice)

Hey!

Making everything from scratch is no easy feat! This is a cute little game, my only complaint would be the "lane changing" part. It feels clunky and I think would be better if we could move a bit faster to or from the ship.

Overall, good entry. Cheers!

The atmosphere and visuals really stood out to me, but I found the gameplay a bit unclear. It wasn’t obvious what the main goal was, which left me confused at times. That being said, the overall concept is promising!

i love Your Game.

Wow this is a really cool game in a lot of ways and 5 stars in several categories:

What I loved:

  • the art style - really gorgeous-looking game
  • attention to detail (fog and lighting, mood, animations)
  • environment design (good prop placement to populate the scene and make it feel alive)
  • the screen darkens when the storm is approaching, very cool post processing blending (I should have done this for my game's storm too haha)
  • the NPC scolds me when I bring the wrong item and calls me illiterate XD
  • the NPC scolds me when I am slow and calls me lazy XD
  • love the character bouncing as he moves!!
  • cute animations of the people scurrying around
  • super loved the music speeding up to add tension, and also the retro sounding music itself is great haha
  • easy to understand, intuitive controls
  • personally didn't face any bugs

Very minor graphical feedback as I saw you're looking for feedback on these:

  • The top left scroll's pixel UI art seems to be stretched vertically albeit slightly (the individual pixels appear to be rectangles and not squares. super minor but thought I'd point it out as half your game is pixel art and you might want your pixels to be clean)
  • I wonder if the pixel art could be more consistent. Right now the character is the most pixelated, and has different pixel size from the items, which have different pixel size from the UI (you can see this clearly at the top left). Then again the game is '3D' so it can be tricky to get them all consistent on-screen.

Regardless of these details, I still gave 5/5 for graphics as overall, deservingly, as the mood and feel established in this short jam was really good. Good job on the art!

My only other thoughts is on really really minor nitty stuff that totally doesn't affect the enjoyability or rating of the game at all and I want to add that these are inconsequential to the great experience I had. Thus they're more of thoughts than feedback.

Misc thoughts:

  • Sometimes I get stunned when I get hit, whereas sometimes I don't. Is it intended to be random? I like that it doesn't stun me all the time though as the stun is quite long haha
  • Is there a catch to delivering faster or delaying the storm? I can't get more than two, maximum 3 lists if they're all three items instead of four. Maybe I just am terrible at it haha

Very interesting concept, I have never tried a game that played quite this way. Also, the controls were pretty intuitive. Good work!

Very good game, I played it and liked it!)

I will be glad if you play and rate my game The Little Fire, and in return I will rate your game!

The game was solid, but the collision of interaction of the items was very concerning, and the quality of the textures was horrible, like, the sprites and stuff were good but the importation to unreal was badly done

Developer

Hey Lukra

Thank you for trying the game!

The interacting with items are indeed not that well done, definitely a thing or 2 to learn from it.

When you are talking about the textures however I do hope you're talking about the textures in the menus (main menu, credits, etc...) and not the actual in game textures on the models? If you are talking about in game stuff as well however I'd love to hear some feedback on how the artists could do better next time!

Hello everyone!

Just so you know the game submission for the game jam is bugged and you can definitely judge on that... it's  only fair! If you want to play the fixed game however you can still play it if you go over to my page (https://grandmas.itch.io/stormrush) !  We'd really appreciate it if you at least saw the game as it's supposed to be. This is the vision we had, it's still not perfect but it's playable! It's unfortunate we weren't able to fix the game on time.

Thank you all for trying the game! :)

I love the graphics on this <3

I am getting the bug mentioned in the page where I can't get the character to move on the start, I can sometimes grab an item, but I remain stuck, and after dropping an item I cannot pick items up again.

My recommendation is disabling collisions on all the items as a quick fix (Query No Collision) and adding a bug fixed version to the main page.

I would love to return to this and get the desired experience, and am available to help with any Unreal Engine questions you might have

Developer

Hey Miguel!

Thank you so much! Our artists did a great job and they're going to love that's the first thing you mentioned!

Right now we've been able to fix the bug of not being able to move after using menus, it was feisty one!

The pick up item and bringing the right item but sometimes it counting as the wrong item bug have both been noted, hope we'll be able to fix those soon!

For now you can at least play some of the game in the updated version on our page!

Our team will make sure to play your game and give it lots of love!
