In what way does your game fit the theme?
My game is about destroying Alien Kings with the help of small aliens. When more aliens you go with, the stronger you are. You will need them to fight the kings!

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes!! I did not finished the music though. It id my first game jam

Great work on your first game jam. This game was interesting to me because it took pre-established mechanics and added an interesting aesthetic which enhanced the game as a whole. The controls felt responsive and the AI worked pretty well. It was fun to play.

I enjoyed your game! The aliens were really cute, I particularly liked the way you can move around in the menu... It almost works as a tutorial on its own!

I think the gameplay could benefit from some audio and a little bit of visual feedback, like a flash or a sparkle of some kind when you meet a friend. Obviously time is limited, so you had to prioritise, but I think you've done well.

Otherwise this is a really nice piece. Well done! :)

I gave this a couple of tries, it's actually quite challenging to get as many companions as possible, while bumping into as few walls as possible and not running out of time in the end. But I managed to beat the first boss and reach the second.

I really like the idea and the way you embrace the 0 gravity movement. It not only gets you around, but you also use it to defeat the alien kings. And bumping into them and smash them into a wall feels really satisfying. The gameplay is simple, but engaging.

The alien companions (and the spritework in general) look really cute and are well made. And the dying animation of the first boss kinda terrified me at first xD.

The lack of music is a shame, but it is a Game Jam after all. Things sometimes don't get finished completely. Let's just say the game's realistic because there's no sound in space lol.

A couple of nice details I noticed: The inclusion of a pause screen and a tutorial is always a nice. And actually moving around on the menu is actually super cool.

I honestly had a good time with it. It was difficult, but worth to push through, just for the gruesome boss dying animation alone :D

It really makes me happy that you beated the first boss! (It's no easy at all) I am happy that you enjoyed it, that's all that matters! I'll check yours, thanks for your honest review.

The visual style is nostalgic and the physics are challenging but predictable, its pretty fun! I wish there was some sounds and music though, even simple bitcrushed things would've added so much.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The physics is the best of the game in my opinion! I'll check yours!

First off, well done for your first ever game jam! Hope it was a good experience for you!

A quick question - were the levels procedurally generated? If so, amazing job!

Okay, so down to a genuine review and feedback:

Menu

I love the interactive menu, took me a few moment of clicking around to figure that out but that's just me being a dingus. Nice story added into the tutorial, could be missed by some folks though so maybe even add this to the main game to give some more context. However, it works as intended!

The Game

Movement felt pretty solid. I've played a couple of these type of boost in facing direction type games and some of them had movement that was way too difficult to control or super slow - this was a great combination of both and after a few mins of getting used to, I got the hang of it quite well.

Visually, the fire effects, aliens and player sprites all looked nice. I wasn't super keen on the trash around the level all looking the same though, a few variations would have been nice.

In terms of level design (looked like they were procedurally generated which is super impressive!) the only obstacles I really encountered were the walls of trash. I think some more obstacles, moving trash perhaps? etc. would have been cool but it's a game jam so I guess there's not a whole lot of time.

In terms of the goal of the game - The "Win" condition, I don't think that this was super clear, I'm still a little unsure what I needed to do to win. Making this clearer (hence my suggestion of a compulsory tutorial) would be better.

Sounds

As you've said some sounds and music would be cool. Check out freesound.org and the r/gameassets subreddit where people often share free sound effects and music.

Overall

Fun mechanics, but a limited amount of them. Impressive levels if they are procedurally generated but too samey looking and need more variation to look better. Sounds and music would add a whole extra layer of quality and a more detailed background to the levels would look great. More obstacles and a clearer objective for the player are needed to make it feel like a full game. Also check out post-processing to make a game look super polished with effects quite easily.

Overall, good job and hope to see you taking part in more game jams in future!

The level are in fact procedually generated! All what you could add is correct! For the future I'll try to have a better win condition for all my games, you are right. Have you reached any Alien King?  The way of winning is killem them all. Okay. I'll check post processing methods. Thank for you advice!! I'll keep working on my skills!

Maybe with the music and sound effects would be better the game, but in general the game is good, I like a lot the mechanic of the game, this is also my first game jam :D

Developer

Yeah! It sure would be! I did not have enough time :(. I'll review yours
