What a sweet story, I'm very glad I played through it! The audio design was incredible and really helped sell the atmosphere, especially those massive monsters that chase you. Coming across them for the first time was super tense and the lingering audio cues made it even better.

The only thing I would recommend is making an HTML build so people could play it in the browser.

Really great entry!

Thank you very much! I struggled getting the sound effects right so I'm glad it worked out. I always get apprehensive about exporting to HTML, because I used to have a really old machine and browser games would just not run well on there at all. I'll probably start exporting to HTML5 in the future though so it's more accessible. Glad you enjoyed it :D

AWESOME! I really like the story. The audio, graphics and the game mechanics really go well with each other.

The not-flesh-being-who-feed-on-emotions is a little buggy at times tho.

(I also like the Sparky's double jump animation for some reason)

This is the best game I have seen till now in this jam 5/5!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! And yep, their movements get totally wonky at time due to their collision hitbox. It got pretty annoying to fix though so I just left it there since it didn't break anything major lol.

Awesome game! I always love me some Metroidvania game jam games. The sound design on this one was top notch, especially the monster charging. The art for the most part was really on point, I liked all the minimalist soft shapes and the monster design was really cool.

However, I feel like the character designs don't match the minimalist environment at all. I think it's because they have a lot of different colors on them and a lot of detail. The robot is almost there but I still think the shading is a bit too much.

Overall though really atmospheric and good game! The particle effects were really cool, and the dynamic music really helped set the mood of each environment!

Developer

You're totally right about the designs. Art is not my strong suit so I put more effort into the characters and a lot less effort on the background. I'm glad you enjoyed the game tho , thanks for playing :D

The funny thing is, I feel like the backgrounds and environment are really good! There's something great about well-done simplistic style, I think the background layers and the rounded look really helped it. The monster design was also great!

Really beautiful and touching game. Love the atmosphere and the piano music.

Escpecially the sound and effects when thouse monsters charge at you are amazingly done. I jumped when one slid down a platform and got me when I thought I was safe :P

One minor issue I had is that at fist I was mashing keyboard until I hit E to pass dialog. But that's on me for not reading the page description.

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it. I worked really hard on the story and the sounds lol.

The E for dialogue actually shows up in the beginning cutscene for a few seconds, but I probably should have let it stay for a little longer. I wanted to keep the controls simple so I mapped all the interaction stuff to E.

First of all, I love the story. I like the backtracking and the emotion-eating beings (they gave off a danger vibe) The atmosphere is good although the tilesets could actually use some work. You know your game design well, especially the part where you muted the music because something bad is gonna happen. The game is good and the story is amazing along with the mix of future and magic, good job!

I also use godot on my game so I noticed some things, you forgot to turn off the "export with debug" on. The robot double jump can be fixed (maybe it's intended?) if you parent the sprite to a node2d, this way you can just set the node2d parent scale.x to -1 or 1.

Developer

Thanks! I'm no artist so I just skimped out on the background stuff, haha. Really glad you enjoyed the game though!

And thanks for the godot tips, I totally derped there. I'm not sure what bug you're talking about with the double jump as I haven't noticed anything, but I'm sure some other bugs slipped by as this game is pretty big.

The part when the robot is looking left and do a double jump, its a front flip on the other side (right) its a backflip.

Developer

Ohhh I see. Dang, you've got a really good eye then, I never even noticed that. Thanks for telling me about it :D
