In what way does your game fit the theme?
Two ways! Debora (who is running from monsters) is in The Realm of Chaos running for her life trying to get back to her home dimension of The Bureau of Geometric Order. So the theme of the game matches the theme of the jam. Also, the game is intentionally challenging, and it gets harder the longer you play a level. Causing a great deal of chaos in the player and controls to try and hit the right button at the right time.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code myself! I did not make the assets from scratch as I saw in the description that wasn't necessary. I did, however, credit all assets in the description.

The art and the music fits very well together, the gameplay was fun but could use some polishing.
I would say the main problem area is the camera, or specifically that it was tied so closely to the jump.
If the camera instead follows behind the character in a slow(lerped) fashion it becomes easier for the eyes to register the enemies and calculate when to jump.
There are great talks on camera movements on the Game Developers Conference (GDC) youtube if you're interested. One that I would recommend is "Math for Game Programmers: Juicing Your Cameras With Math". But I understand that it is a game jam, and that there are only so many things you've got time to add in this far too short week :)
Best of luck on your next project or if you decide to keep working on this !
Howdy~
I thought that the mechanics you introduced were really neat and I enjoyed exploring them and running into them.
I have a couple suggestions that I think would be easy to implement and make a big difference. The first is introducing some sort of lerp to the player's jump, having the camera directly connected to the player's location was jarring. With a slow transition it would have looked a lot smoother. Second, I think that the objects that hurt you could do with some visual clarity as they kinda blended in with the scenery. If it had a visual highlight or maybe just a brighter color it would have made it a lot more clear.
I had a lot of fun playing this game and think you did a great job with the implementation. Everything worked well and I love that you included a neat and fleshed out story along with the runner. Well done!
Cool game. I feel like some more animations (like in geometry dash) and maybe some changes based on the music would be cool. If you're using the new input system, adding W/Up arrow would also be a nice addition. Some more level details might be nice. I feel like the jump is a little fast and the speed to the right is a little slow. Overall nice game
I appreciate your feedback on the animations. I will check out geometry dash. I also like more level details, thats a great idea. Thanks!
I am curious what you mean by "too slow"? The speed in the game increases exponentially the longer you play, in theory it would increase so fast that the game becomes impossible to play. Unless you were experiencing a bug or didn't play long?
I suppose my attention span was too small lol. I see what you mean now. I like the particles that chase you if you try and cheat by going against a block :p
Play a bit longer :) It speeds up exponentially!
Congratulations to you game. I very much like the art! The menu, the drawings the writing its all very beautiful. Keep up the good work.
nice game, I like the game art style and the UI, I like it.
I would appreciate it if you playe\rate my game :>
Congrats on your first game! I enjoyed playing it.
While the concept was clear in the instructions, the game was hard to line up with what I read while playing. I was confused sometimes but appreciated the effort.
The main issue I had was the level design itself mixed with the very hefty-jump, it was too hard at times for me.
Great job though!
If you have another person and a controller available to plugin please check out my game!
There are some hefty jumps! There is a double-jump, though it isn't advertised in the instructions. A detail that slipped through the cracks for this jam. I don't have anyone else nor do I have a controller, but good luck with your project :)
Really nice music and artwork. I dug the idea. a really good job with the presentation. Lots of nice work here. I think I would prefer a slightly faster pace but that might just be my personal preference. Really good job overall.
I also was in favor of a fast pace but my play tester was not. If I made improvements, I would have a "difficulty" setting that would allow for a more or less challenging experience.
Very solid music, I enjoyed the theme of this game and how you visually adapted chaos to contrast with a protagonist of "Order," AKA a geometric cube. Especially smart in this sort of runner game.
I would have liked a bit of a more obvious health bar- it took me a few plays to understand when I was losing health, and the text at times got sort of heavy and hard to read with the font choice.
Overall, a fun challenge with beautiful art; I like how the game gets faster as you progress along, keeping the energy and interest up while also feeling more chaotic. Adding the mechanic where you have to put up your blue and red shields accordingly adds a fun twist to the gameplay that continues to keep you on your toes.
I absolutely agree with this assessment. A more clear display of lives, like with a health bar would make it a better experience. I also appreciate the note on the font and tone of the text. I will go back and search for a new one that still feels whimsical but is more legible. Thanks!
incredible audio, and pretty good overall. there isn't a pause button though..
There is a pause function. If you are currently running you can press escape and a pause menu will show up. I apologize for not making that clearer!
cute game, and very challenging! it's amazing you made this by yourself, I love it!
Thanks for your kind words. It is my first game, I'm very proud.
Good game! very challenging
The Design was good and the Music was good too. I personally dont like so much text in a Game, that was the "Fun_taker" here. But I think a lot of people will like this game and give a good rating.
Thank you! I think I agree! I think there is a bit too much text for a game as simple as this. I appreciate your feedback. This is the first game I have made so it was hard to know where to find that balance, your comment helped put things in perspective.
Niceu
Nice setting - like the backgrounds & music you chose, some additional sound effects when hitting 'bad stuff' / 'good stuff' would have been a great addition.
Thanks for your feedback. I agree there definitely should be more sound effects. That is an area I am least passionate about so it didn't make the list of priorities for first ever game but it is important for a future update if that ever happens.
nice try!
Very nice and relaxing game. Loved the background music.
Loved the graphics!
Really enjoyed the background visuals on this game
