The game is an endless runner with random themes and events leading to a lot of chaos.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
All the code was written from scratch, however the assets were purchased from the unity asset store

Well this game definitely wasn't what I was expecting, especially after seeing the "Endless runner" change rather than calling it a game on itch.  It was still an interesting experience though, a little bit of difficulty near the beginning but after that it was relatively easy to get used to and start playing.  Until of course I managed to break the game multiple times and who knows, maybe I got the world record (2969).

The random events, while limited, at least in the ones I got, were definitely interesting additions to the gameplay.  All of them except the beach balls I'd say, that one was relatively... bland I guess?  It didn't really add too much challenge, other than a bit of randomization that could lead to some fails.  Those were some sad deaths, squished by beach balls.

Overall though an interesting setup, a, it seems, hard limit on the record at the moment and some very well laid out maps, if a bit short in when they repeat I'd say.  Maybe more gradual transitions between areas with smaller chunks, even if it's more of a full visual area change I feel like it could add something to the style if handled well.

Hey!  Have played and rated.  Nice driving game.  I would maybe change the music for a longer tune but well done for completing the jam.

This is a lot of fun, but I will hear that sounds in my sleep and continuously for the next twenty seven days until I will die a slow an painful death of lung cancer. What does lung cancer have to do with the music? Nothing! Don't smoke kids!

Apart from the music, I really enjoyed this game! I'm not entirely sure what the superconcious car thing was, but if I understand it correctly, as your car starts to not completely obey your orders, then the idea was pretty good!

Very interesting, I will definitely play it again sometime.

Now to the less entertaining part... I really do not want to be that guy, and it's not like I've never made a spelling error...

But you used you're instead of your.

Developer

We're happy to know that you enjoyed the game :D

The superconcious car was initially supposed to be the same old car but bumped up stats like speed and acceleration making it hard to not crash into obstacles while driving, but it didn't turn out exactly that way

and alas! This is another one of those projects where we mix up "you're" and "your" (its really hard not to mess these up lol, no matter how many time we stare in the screen to correct spelling errors) but thanks for pointing out :D and thanks for all the feedback on the game!!

First and foremost congratulations on completing the game for the jam. The project was ambitious and you guys did a great job to make it look like a complete project given only a week to make.

Suggestions (Not that I think I am any better)

  • Switching between levels could have been smoother. Having a blinding white screen not only triggered me but also it put a brake in the flow. For an endless runner the game play flow is key. What you could do is keep spawning different level (i.e. trees, than beach ball level than umbrella level) one after another without a visual break. Jetpack joyride is a great example or temple run you can see that environment is changing but game play continues regardless.
  • The game play felt longer. I mean I was allowed so many hits before the game over.
  • The music loop was way too short for a longer game like this. The music was good and fitting but a very short loop repeating over and over made it annoying quickly.
  • Car controlling could have been better. Having too much sensitive steering for a slow moving car made it really difficult to control. Tying the steering sensitivity with the car speed may work better. Also reverse felt a bit buggy. I had to keep it pressed for so long that for a moment I thought there is no reverse mechanism.
  • The text at the start should be skippable. Also having a fixed size looks good rather than having smaller fonts as your text gets bigger with more words.
  • The events were a bit extreme and made a bit difficult to get out of the situation. Balancing the spawn of balls / bombs may improve the feel greatly.
  • The collisions could have been better. I suggest having smaller colliders / hit boxes than actual shape of the object. If I see I can drive through a gap only to run into a hidden wall feels being cheated.

Things that I loved about the game

  • The game is a visual treat. I know that you got the assets from asset store, but just putting the assets in the game does not make it look good. The world was pleasant to look at and beautiful to drive through the trees.
  • Car physics were well implemented. You struck a good balance between crazy arcady (where car virtually flies for miles on impact) and realism. The bomb / beach ball impacts looked nice.
  • The UI was minimal, simple super clean. The UI of the game gave it a feeling that the game was a complete and polished product. From main menu to settings to game over it was well designed overall.
  • Adding settings for various things in the game was a good thought. Even if you put copy pasted code (which I'm sure you didn't), the thought of allowing a player to tweak quality and visual settings shows that you went a great length to make this game look and feel as good as possible. You did all these for a game jam game is incredible. (I didn't have time to put even a sound toggle button)

Apart from everything I mentioned above the game was very solid entry overall and most important fun to play. These are some small nitpicks that I think will improve the experience even further. Best of luck for the rest of the jam.

Thank you so much for the detailed review and the kind words, we really do appreciate it!!! The reverse mechanism did get some criticism. The thing was that we implemented a brake which was to be pressed first to stop the wheels from rotating and then to press reverse, next time we'll be more careful with that.

The texts at the start were indeed skippable.  In the main menu => settings, theres a toggle for "tutorial messages" (but appears as "tutorial" in some builds) which would skip the messages at the start when set to false. The events being completely random and extreme was one of the initial reasons to increase the health of the car but we'll make sure to further balance things out in the next jam.

Once again, we want to thank you for the detailed feedback!! Wishing you best of luck for the rest of the jam as well :D

I really like the art style of this game, as well as the changing levels and cool transitions. The music has a bit of a racing note witch fits really well. But the movement of the car is very unresponsive. Besides, it's a very good game.

If you have a minute, please check my game too :)

Loved the first level. Great car mechanics.
I would have liked to have seen the obstacles shake and camera shake when you crash , it would of added an extra something to the feel of the experience, great stuff. I would love to hear what you have to say about my entry.

I love car game!!!! I like this one and challange me to make greater score

We like car games too! High score was the main driving factor of the game (not to brag but i've got a high score of 3000)

Beautiful images, challenging gameplay.

Thank you for the feedback :D

Wow this game is really good! Aside from the car feeling a bit too slippery when turning and it taking a bit too much time to reverse when you're stuck (and a bit too much time to stop reversing and going forward too), I really liked this game!

Developer

We're glad you had fun and thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately we didn't get much time to spend on the basic movement and had to do with what we had but we'll look into making the movement better after the jam.
