How does your game fit the theme?
It is a rougelike where each time you die you select a new weapon and a completely new dungeon is formed.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes we did. I reused bits of code from other projects but it is all code that I wrote. My friend made all of the sprites in aseprite himself.

love the level generation! (although I found an instance where I was able to exit the map, and another instance where a portion of the map simply wasn't available to access although it had enemies), and really great job on the pixel art / movement / particle effects and overall feel of the game. I had a hard time with the shotgun and the sniper, but loved the ability to try out new weapons. Some music and a bit more variety in the enemies would have been awesome, but would love to see what you do with this after the jam is over!

Developer

Thankyou so much! yeah the level generation is pretty buggy and I don't know how to fix it, it might just be a consequence of the way we did it. I'm working on a updated version of thr game where the weapons are rebalanced and I think they're a lot better. I'll work on thinking about music and enemies as well!

Nice pixel art and cool to see procedural generation in a jam game!  The movement was a bit floaty and i wish the camera tracked a little ahead of the player so you could see enemies before they are shotting at you.  Still, cool little game!

Developer

I ran unto the camera trouble a lot too, you can start going really fast if you use the kick of the weapons to move around, but then you sorta cant see anything in front of you. Thanks for the compliments and criticism, very helpful.

I think the could use a bit of polish, but on many aspect. If AI wasn't shooting at us through walls, audio wouldn't be spamming. A music could be nice too, as well as some story. Not sure it fits the theme, since we don't keep or change anything from the previous try, we just restart and always get the same weapon choices :/

I think you definitely need a win condition. Also, how can I kill the weird looking jellyfish? u.u I died before I could clean the dungeon and see if it changed anything in my ability to hurt him.

Graphics are nice and the dungeon generation is very clean. Maybe you spend too much time on it? I know managing time in a game jam is hard. but for a first time it's very good :)

I'll keep those points in mind, the AI just checks if you are within a certain distance, it dosent raycast or anything, but its bullets dont go through walls so that shouldnt be a problem. I'm fixing the audio amd thinking of music as a possible update for the game, as well as a win condition. The idea of the theme is that each new try is a new dungeon and a new character, and thus a new beggining but admitedly the character selection is lacking. I'm adding a way to select a character, the weapon amd even maybe a power of some sort to create more varied builds. Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to point these things out!

btw you cannot kill the ghost enemy, he is there to add pressure and force you to move quickly through the dungeon.

Indeed, I didn't think about the dungeon changing as the new beginning, I'm gonna change my rating ^^

Good Game. Loved the procedurally generated dungeon, and the gameplay. The audio made it more engaging. The AI was a bit buggy(shooting at me even though I wasn't "visible" to it). Otherwise a really good game.

Developer

Thankyou! We're gonna make a post jam update for it and i'll consider improving the ai, i'm glad you liked the dungeon and the audio I spent loads of time making the code for procedual generation and creating each room.

Pretty good. I like the art! It'd be interesting if there were some different environments, even if you just changed the colour of already existing stuff. The SFX of the bullet got a bit annoying, perhaps if it was a tad bit more quiet. I would also be nice if nothing could spawn near the spawn room. I was a bit surprised when as soon as I loaded in was already under fire. Also some way to restart the level and quit out of the game. Good Work!

Thankyou! I'd love to implement more environments, we are currently expanding the game a bit and that would be the next big leap. I've gotten comments on the bullet effects several times, I need to change that. I used jsfxr which makes pretty annoying sfx, i'm trying to find an alternative currently. The whole being under fire when you spawn thing always gets me too, couldn't figure out how to fix it but it is stressful. As for a way to restart, i'm not sure if it's the build uploaded to this page but you can hit enter to restart. I'll work on a pause menu too. Thanks so much for checking it out amd giving feedback!

Graphics are lovely, and SUPERB job with auto-generated dungeon. It must have been hard to program. Our team also made all the assets from scratch. We know it's a lot of work. I appreciate it!

Developer

Thankyou and thankyou! the generation was tricky, I followed a tutorial for it that wasn't totally functional and we had to sort of parch it up. It still bugs out every once in a while though... It is a whole lot of work but it's easier with friends, my buddy made all the sprites and thank god he did.

I enjoyed it, art is nice, loved the fire enemy. Shooting sound is a bit annoying, because it cuts off with some bad sound(idk how to explain that), i guess you used some website like sfxr, if so, next time you could slide the "decay time" slider a bit to the right, so there isn't some kind of punch in your ears. Pretty good for one week, i bet you could do more diversity in weapons and enemies if you were to have more time! Also could give player some kind of role, so they would need to explore the dungeon for something and not just walk around and shoot random enemies, but that would be kinda too much to ask for one week jam with one person working on it xd. Keep it up!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! sorry the sounds were annoying, I did just throw them together in 2 seconds in jsfxr. I'll keep that in mind for next time. We we're going to have powers and bodies and more weapons and even a dungeon boss but we did run low on time and decide to cut our losses. It actually wasn't just one person! my friend matchalicious made all the art for the game. Thankyou so much for the kind words and for playing our game.
