man! wanted to try your game out, but it appears my graphics card does not support OpenGL 3.3/OpenGL ES 3, so it won't work for me. :(
That's no good sorry man, I will try to drop a web variant later on. I don't know if that will behave differently.
Just released the web build. Not 100% sure is it will have different requirement though.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS! IT WORKED! that was very entertaining! i loved the story and humor! short and sweet little game, NICE JOB! wish i could have rated it for the jam, but glad i got to play it finally!
Very interesting concept! I like how your weapon's range depends on its name.
As a result, "the professor obtained a Oh hey, i'll just give this weapon a preposterously long name just to be insanely overpowered. Oh wow, I can write that many letters? Isn't it like cheating?"
All I had to do was swing it.
One of the original goals was going to implement a scoring system where the longer the weapon, the less points obtained. I wasn't having any luck with one that felt appropriate so I ended up cutting it.
Thank you for checking it out!
This game has many pros and cons
Pros
Weapon Naming - I defeated the Void Sandwich with the mighty spoon
Interesting Story
Nice joke about Generic Enemies
Lovely Graphics and nice looking player
I like the sword/weapon mechanic swing
Manual sword/weapon swinging is how I won
Nice Music
Cons
Pressing any key in an animation replays the animation
Enemies can sometimes spawn on top of the player
Not all the Demons had the red text colour
Thank you for checking it out and the feedback. I had ran into some trouble with the animation code and preventing repeat due to a hacky implementation it was on my bug list but I wasn't able to squash that one on time =(. No clue how I missed the red text on demons though haha good catch!
Amazing game! Love the concept! It was really fun to play!
Well done!
Hilarious game, great job! Recommend using a very big weapon hehehe. (Posted this on the wrong page at first)
Half the test were done with stuff like [Smooth Criminal] and [Baby got Bat] sometimes I went extreme with [this is the weapon that doesn't end it goes on and on my friend some people started swinging it not knowing what it was....]
Thank you for check it out!
Made a fantastically long sword filled with determination, and steamrolled the enemies. Very meta stuff. The music choice was a little too peaceful though.
Thank you for trying it out. I arrived at an odd impasse when it came to music, I really wanted something that captured "he's inside his mind" but couldn't find anything that fit. I ended up sticking with the 3 songs I had because I couldn't pick another but I wanted some different once the battles started.
Odd rambling aside, I totally agree!
There should probably be a character limit on the sword thing, so that you can't just make it absurdly long. But hey, it's fun anyway. I loved the text graphics and overall this game was super fun! I actually found the humour amusing. Great job!
Thank you for trying it out. Originally I was going to add a scoring system that rewarded shorter weapons better, but I couldn't find a good sweet spot for it where it made sense.
Haha, My weapon of choice was The D, wish I could click though the intro after I had seen in once. Fun concept!
Whoops. Will respond here too XD.
"Yeah I had planned to implement a skip function but the text dialog box kept causing problems with one of the other systems. I ended up figuring out what I did wrong right at the end but didn't have time to implement. Thank you for trying it out!"
I liked the part where I "obtained a fart."
awww I messed up and did a a sense of regret lol.
What a great short and fun game! I'm glad to see you actually went with a game using text as art! I remember that discussion in the discord channel!
I had a lot of fun playing this one, great job! And as I have to say to most people, love seeing Godot because I'm all about that open source!
The void sandwich played into the text concept very well. I had some trouble getting a swing mechanic that felt good though.
And heck yeah Godot! It's still a little rough around some edges but I love it and it's an amazing open source project. I plan on keep pushing with it to see how far it can go!
Great attempt! I like the choice of music. I'd suggest transitions for the music to make it feel that touch more polished. The use of text was quite ingenious and hit the concept of thoughts in the mind really well! I thought the swing mechanic was clever but didn't feel right as it was difficult to guess when it landed a blow or not. I thought the art was really good. Overall, great job - concept and implementation!
Thank you for playing! The swing mechanic did end up feeling odd to me I ended up mainly relying on just wiggling the mouse over enemies to attack. I had played around with a few and never found something that worked well all round. Good idea on the music I didn't even think about putting in a fade or anything to help with the transitions.
Very cute game! I love that you have settings and can turn music on and off and a whole story to go with your game. My most favorite part is the ability to name your own weapon. My first name was Good Looks but that was just not good enough as I died. So my second play through my name was ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- which just happened to be good enough to win.
A lot of my testing was done with [A really long weapon that will allow me to one shot from across the room]. I then had to beat it once with just [sword] to ensure it was passable. Thank you for playing!
Very nice concept. Great job.
Thank you for playing!
I dig that premise. Great way to use story to explain using words for art!
I had an idea of actually swinging the word Sword at somebody and tied the Void Sandwich theme into the concept. But I ended up creating a story and character I want push further.
Morale: never try to have a picnic on a crossroad
But it's the best spot sort of like sitting in the center of a pentagra..... circle.
