The game is looking amazing and the music is great. The gameplay idea is fun, but for me the game was way too difficult to get very far. Overall a pretty good jam game. Well done.
The game design is alright, thought this type of game has now been made ad nauseam. The novelty is the mouse control, which works well and doesn't get in the way of gameplay.
The platforming is generally solid, but there is no grace jump and the jump height cannot be modulated. The physics, in general have a few problems. It's possible to scale walls in a pretty inelegant way, and sitting on platforms forces you to move, because the platform's inertia space doesn't affect you. In fact, level 6 and 9 are the only two I skipped because I found contending with the moving platforms tedious.
The theme has been hit pretty well, in the sense that the platforms are not what they seem to be. I completely ignored the typing. Haven't read more than "jump in the void to win" or something and I got the gist.
SFX work for the game.
The music loop of this game has been selected to play in my personal chamber when I'm in hell. Forever. In my chamber, however, it will play correctly, so it will loop when the scenes change. :)
Pretty solid entry, but not my cup of tea.
Interesting concept. The graphics are simple, but well done.
My main complain is that the controls are a bit to floaty, for a game that require precision in some part.
Overhall, good job, cheers !
Sorry i just hate the sliding in platformers. That made me so frustrated. Despite that, nicely polished game with cool graphics and other mechanics. Good job!
Really good game, brackeys made a similar one, but I liked the execution of yours better. My only complaint is on the moving platform level, where the platform takes too long to come back if you die (perhaps do a level reset when you die so the timing of the platform fits the respawn time?). Also I'd suggest making the first levels easier as a tutorial, that way the player can get to know the game before it really starts.
PS: I know my review focused more on the parts I find negative rather than focusing on the positive ones, but the game is really good and I enjoyed playing it.
Nice graphics!
At some points the main character was maybe too fast on sliding moves (I don't know how to explain what it was exactly) but nothing impossible to control to complete all levels.
I'm really impress, what a nice game !!
The esthetics are simple but with some light effects they look very cool and everything is really smooth, it feels really great to play. Well played !
Dude sick little game! I rated yours do you think you could you rate mine? https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/477078
The art is really nice, the controlls work well. However, the game falls flat in the gameplay. From what i understand, there's no way to tell what is going to kill you or not. Maybe you need to think about a way to portray that information to the play? It just felt like trial and error over and over and to be honest, I quite after the third level because I couldn't be bothered dealing with it anymore. I reckon if you can try and think about that some more, you'd have a great game on your hands. Best of luck!
Would be great if you could take a moment to play and rate our game too! Thanks :)
Okay, I have some feedback on the game:
- Let's start off with the visuals and music. The art is clean and simple, letting the player focus on the platforming. The music is also nice.
- On to the controls; I'm not a fan of the control setup. I would like to able to jump with W.
- The main mechanic in the game, with the revealing of the hiden obstacles, is done by every other playformer in the jam I've played so far. It looks like you tried to add a spin on it, by having the text in the top left; which is good. However when I'm playing the game, I am looking at the character and the "reveal circle". So it doesn't really work that well.
- "Jump into the void" is not intuitive design. People first have to look at the text in the top left to notice it. To then figure out where the void is. Maybe you can mark were the void is or remove this entirely.
- The water has a different size collider as the ground, so when you're moving over the water the character doesn't like to seamlessly move from the water to the ground. There are ways to solve this without having the character float in the air while they are moving over the water. Like modifying the collider of the character so that its corners are rounded.
- With the moving platforms the character is not parented to the platform. So he falls off when the platform moves, which isn't great.
Oh that's truly similiar to mine :P But I love your graphics much more (this circle you control is just wonderful) and it was a really nice experience. Just make the music loop over the scenes, as it's a bit frustrating when it resets :P good job!
Really cool and challenging game mechanics here! Great job on innovation~ I like the neon glow as well, great choice! Please check out my entry when you can, good day!
