I like how the cards work as lives. As a minesweeper clone, brilliant. I think this would be a great way to introduce minesweeper to someone who's never played it before. I love the icons to keep track of which cells are touching flags, sound fx are cute and fun.

There is an invisible something at the bottom center of the screen that prevents interacting with the squares there. I'd guess you have set visible to be false on it? You may want to set the disabled property to be true instead. I didn't see it get used for anything though.

But this is overall really polished, thanks for building it!

I was trying to mitigate the instant death when revealing a mine, because you inevitably end up in 50/50 roulettes in games of minesweeper.

Thanks for the feedback :) I appreciate it

I want to make sure I understood the card mechanic - is it basically like your lives remaining or HP? As I played, the number on the deck would go up, and when I hit a mine, the number would go down. Once the number on the deck dipped below zero, it was game over. I tried clicking on the deck, but it would just shake;  was there more I could do with it? Thought it was pretty cool how it's basically an Endless variant of Minesweeper! (Or at least it seemed endless, as I could scroll on pretty far)

Yes, that’s exactly it. The cards also get used when scoring, but I don’t think I communicated it very well xD

During scoring, cards are drawn from the deck, then put at the bottom afterwards.

Mines destroy 2 cards each.

When you click the deck you shuffle it, which was just a little extra thing I added.

I really appreciate the feedback :)

No idea how the card mechanic worked (perhaps that didn't get finished?) but really nicely polished and an interesting take on a more 'endless' minesweeper!

Developer(+1)

You’re not alone there xD It’s basically your lives, plus the basis for scoring. I wish I had time to do more with the deck, but I had to leave it there this time.

Great Minesweeper clone! I agree that a bit more explanation would've clarified some things early on, but once I started poking around, it made sense. I really like how there is incentive to wait on verifying/scoring the mines for higher numbers to get more points. Adds an interesting sort of difficulty and tension.

Developer

Thanks, I appreicate the feedback :) I focused on juicing the UI in order to describe what was happening, but I think I left some gaps, especially around the deck of cards (which might as well have been a bag of cubes).

I feel like this game successfully captures the classic Minesweeper experience while adding some interesting mechanics too. I especially like the walls. However, a tutorial could be beneficial to fully understand how all the additional mechanics work as I feel like there is a lot of strategic depth that I am missing. For example, I figured out the basic gameplay but still have questions about how the scoring system calculates points and the purpose of the cards. With all that said, I managed to score over 100 points and I appreciate the ability to zoom out and reach extra tiles

Thanks for the detailed feedback :) the cards ended up a bit more as an afterthought than I’d hoped. The scoring works like this:

  1. Click a cell with check mark
  2. Draw a card per flag(mine) you score
  3. Sum all the value cards, then multiply with each multiplier card

Just like Minesweeper, I couldn't figure out how to use the cards though. and the game crashed when I tried to restart.

Developer

Oh right, there’s a game breaking bug with the restart button. I noticed, but forgot to fix it in time.

The cards are just used for scoring (which happens when you click a cell with a checkmark). I see I should have tutorialized this a bit more.

I appreciate the feedback :D
