Hi! I know I’m a little late, but I finally got to play your game. Sorry I didn’t run across it during the voting period!

I liked it! It reminds me of a more peaceful Pikmin in how you’re exploring an alien planet (which is actually Earth), going through day-and-night cycles and occasionally bringing a pumpkin back to your ship. There’s so many things I can see going into a concept like this, many of which I’m sure you’ve already thought about but couldn’t implement in time. Yodawg was a surprising but cute addition, too.

I like how you’ve implemented different levels of brightness for the time of day; the rain, which is a really nice touch to add extra atmosphere; the roundness of the map, which really helps make it feel like a tiny planet; and I enjoyed the voice acting and sound effects for when you pick up a mushroom.

One thing I’d like to bring to your attention a little is the sound and music, though. I think for a game like this, having a bit more ambience in the form of gentle wind and/or rain could really help make the world feel more alive with relatively little work. As for the music, I actually found it becoming the most repetitive aspect of the game over time. I think something less constantly present, a bit more minimalist like the Animal Crossing soundtracks, would actually complement a game like this, especially with additional sound design as I’ve mentioned.

Still, though, it’s definitely cozy, and I liked the ending too. I think if I’d been able to rate it during the rating period (keep in mind I tend to be a bit picky 😓), it would have been:

Overall: 3.5 - I don’t know how I would have voted for it between 3 and 4!

Cozy: 4

Fun: 3

Creativity: 4

Theme: 3 - The pumpkin is a good touch, but I wonder if more autumn colors could have helped?

Aesthetics: 4

Pikmin was one of my biggest inspiration for this game.  Music is perhaps one of my weakest talents, hence why I had to use stock music for the game. If I were going to move forward and build a more complete game, I would honestly love to talk to you about something like that. :)

I like the gameplay here, and how the character talks! That was cute!

What a lovely ending, I took so long shaking so many trees until I found the pumpkin. Thought it was an apple at first haha. You could of used the same fishing animation for when you play on your tv. Lovely submission, a very cozy game. Great job! - Mato

The game is good and amazing work. The only problem is that it doesnt have a tutorial, even if there is controls in the description I still dont know what to do.

Developer

Thank you. I tried my best to make it more toy like and allowing the player to try different things out. I realized once it was too late that things aren't as intuitive as I wanted them to be, and that's something I'll work on for future game jams. :D

If you're looking to give it another try:
Wander around and press the "Use" key (E key works for that) whenever you see something light up. Walk over to the water and press the use key to throw your rod in the water, wait for a fish to bite. Then rapidly tap on the use key to pull a fish out. If you press on the use key while standing in front of the rocket, you'll go inside where you can play the video game system inside. This speeds up time(So if it's night time you can get to daylight faster). Everyday a new plumbkin spawns nearby the base. There's a bug where if you walk too far in one direction, the pumbkin can disappear. So, if the world wraps around go back in the direction you came from if you didn't see the fruit.

Hope all that helps. I do plan on releasing a small update to it, after voting is done as well. That version will have all of the feedback that I've gotten.

Art is great and loved the polish you put into everything like animations, weather, circular planet, etc. I might be dumb but I shook probably 50 trees and didn't find any oranges - I also couldn't figure out how to fish? I was playing the web build if that helps. Overall so comfy and cozy!

Developer

No. Not dumb at all. Shaking the trees is just a thing to do.  That was one of the many toys I put in, that has nothing to do with actually finishing the game.  I tried my best to have people explore as much as possible to try different things, and that backfired with there being no instructions. 😔

The fishing mechanic I thought was easy to figure out, until all of my play testers told me it's not intuitive. You throw your rod in the water, and wait for the explorer to say "Fish!" and you rapidly tap on the use button to pull the fish out. If the meter gets to the top, the fish gets away.

The plumbkin is hard to find and tends to get lost very easily, I spawn a new one every morning near by the ship. If you walk to far away from it there's a bug where it despawns. I couldn't fix it in the time limit. :(

Beautiful atmosphere and awesome gameplay!

Reminds of Spore, with being able to traverse the world. Nice rain effects and mini-games, the fishing was cool. Was very relaxing to play, nice job :)

This is darn cute! I'm definitely going to start calling mushrooms "mashroo"!

I really liked the design of this game.  Traversing the small planet felt like a fun setting and was well executed.  Even if the 'Use' control was not always intuitive (fishing, mini-game) there was actually some joy in discovering how the controls worked.  Also you may not know that 'E' also works for 'Use' which I liked.

It was difficult to pickup mushrooms hidden behind trees, but there were plenty others to go after.  I did have one game crash after fishing and shaking trees...I was not able to reproduce.

A surprising (in a good way) submission that makes me want to do a small planet walking simulator.  For me the setting and details on the ship/animations was very delightful.

Developer

Yes the "E" key works as well as "Enter". Hopefully that made your experience better. When the game was being developed it was originally designed to be a full screen game. I quickly tried to export out a WebGL version not remembering that pressing Control and W will close the window. :( Since I primarily used the "E" key in development, I didn't include it in the keyboard overlay, and by the time I remembered time had run out. Thank you for playing!

Nice game - love the addition of the weather system.  That is a nice touch.

Relaxing game which has its own charm! Lost my shit when I saw it say: "Oh, a mashroo!" x)
