Such an ambitious game for such a short time! I enjoyed it so much and was continually impressed by the depth of skill you displayed here. Seriously kudos.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the praises :)

A great game is easy to pick up and hard to put down. That's exactly the experience I had with this game! I started out very chill and easy and soon my acorn empire exploded in population and land use! The core gameplay loop is really fun, whilst also managing to actually be relaxing. You make some decisions, let it play out for a bit, build some stuff, make buy some new land, and repeat. It's very chill! The only major problem I ran into was that the beaver tradeposts completely stopped producing wood at some point (all of them, even the new ones I discovered), even though I was sending loads of squirrels to them. This meant that at some point I couldn't buy any new land anymore since I wasn't receiving any wood. Did I mess something up or miss something here? Anyway, I'm really impressed by what you guys did here. This is a HUGE project and it's done really well. Nice graphics, effects, AI, gameplay, visuals. There's just so, so much polish across the board, really incredible job guys. I hope you keep expanding on this game because I definitely think there's a market for these kinds of games. I've attached a photo of my empire below! I had a load of fun, so thanks for making this game, and congrats on finishing! Thanks for participating in the jam!

Edit: I just read in another comment that the trader post not giving planks is probably because I didn't have enough water/food for my squirrels, so they stopped bringing acorns? Like you said, I think that is something you can explain in the tutorial. However (and this might be a bold opinion) but I think that maybe the squirrels shouldn't need water/acorns, and the game could still be very fun. Just an idea :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback and also for hosting the Game Jam, which we found very enjoyable :D.  We are actually planning on polishing the project and adding new features to it, to get it to a nice state. We aim for a somewhat similar experience as "Satisfactory", where you basically try to maximize your production cycle and try to increase your efficiency. From that point of view I think it makes sense that the squirrels cost resources, so the game is more about production rates than about your current resources. (If the squirrels had just a one time cost, you could just let the game run over night and then build like a thousand villages, with the available space the only obstacle)

Also, as you mentioned, the whole plank situation is definitely confusing and the current solution is, even IF it was properly explained, probably not the best idea.

Ah yeah that all makes a lot of sense. I'm not usually home in these types of games so I don't know a lot about them. Good luck!

This game is unlike anything else i've seen in this game jam
It also requres much more advnaced programming than anything else in this game jam
I'm very surprised you managed to do all this in 3 days

Developer

Thanks a lot! We basically worked all day every day and barely got finished ^^

I love it! There is a bug with making acorns into planks - the squirrels stop bringing the acorns at some point. I know that music was not made by you, but it feels so good with your game! Gameplay is addictive and the growth well calculated. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback :) This is actually not a bug, it is just a feature that is not explained ^^ They stop trading for acorn for wood or water for stone when you don't have that many acorns/water to spare. Basically a part of your acorns and water is always reserved for the squirrels needs, since otherwise it happend quite often that you assigned too many squirrels to a trade post and ran out of water/acorn. This mechanic should have definetly been explained in the UI, but we ran out of time ^^

That makes perfect sense! Now I appreciate your game even more ๐Ÿ˜Š

Very nice concept. It has some blocking bugs, but that's so understandable at the game jam :-) Apart from that, a few balance tweaks and a bit more polished UX and it can be a really cool experience.

This is really nice, played this for a while and almost was able to open up the entire map (which seems to be the objective) but I ran into an issue where on my resolution (playing on a macbook air 13โ€) the cells were offscreen and I couldnโ€™t zoom out any more or scroll the camera far enough to be able to see them.

Besides that issue everything worked great. I had a lot of fun playing this. Good job. My game is linked below if you want to check it out.

Gonna be honest my computer is not hearty enough to run this but it looks awesome and the concept is very creative.
