Really cool concept, although I got a little lost! At first I wasn't quite sure why I couldn't play the flute, but that made more sense once I discovered that the little creatures could teach me notes. But after that I couldn't get past the first purple-bush sound puzzle. I tried everything! Mimicking the sound by stepping on the buttons, mimicking the sound on the flute, but nothing seemed to work. Did I miss something? Anyways, other than that I really liked the game. Very cozy fall vibes, nice art and animations, and a cool concept! Plus the little creatures were very cute. Well done!

First of all: for anyone who hasn't played this game, PLEASE DON'T READ THIS COMMENT!  It explains how one of the puzzle works, and I think you should at least try to work it out for yourself first before reading!

I assume you're talking about this puzzle:

Sorry you got stuck here, given it's my personal favourite puzzle of the 3!  It's a code-cracker where each direction corresponds with a musical note (stepping on the buttons tells you which corresponds with which).  When you approach the path, a melody plays which tells you which path to take.  For example, if D corresponds with up and G corresponds with right, and the melody plays 'D G G D', it's telling you the correct path is 'up, right, right, up'.  Hope this helps!

Ohh that makes sense. Thanks!

Hi @Virtual Turtle Games!

Thanks for your feedback, glad to see that you had an overall nice experience playing my game!

It's difficult to find the balance between too much explanation and not enough explanation, and provide a game experience which is not too long and straight to the point.
I will definitely keep that in mind in general to think of ways to make things more obvious without excessive tutorials.

Last, but not least: HUGE thanks for organizing this game jam. It was an amazing experience to be part of!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much @AJW8 for your precise explanation!

And congrats for your results, I was happy to see your game's ranking, also for me it's #1 humor wise ๐Ÿ˜

Hi plaha! Thank you so much! I am happy you had a nice experience playing my game.

Glad you liked the cut scene! If you liked the first one, I think the endscene should be even better
(Once you get back your notes, you can trigger the end scene by playing something on the flute, somewhere) ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

This being my second jam, I think the hardest part about game jams on my end is trying to accomplish what I want to do in my head, and attempting to deliver it relatively glitch free with the little knowledge I have.

This game seems unburdened by any of that. Which is to say it's a short confined experience where there's no dialogue, no tutorial, just music and puzzle solving. I did not experience any glitches, it was easy to grasp the story, the music was wonderful, especially the ending! Not once did I have to question what I was mean to be doing or how to solve each puzzle. It's amazing to see a game with such a solid identity yet so simple. It's an open and shut game, where I have no idea how you would do it any better. Congratz! Hope to see you again in another jam.

Hi RemediaV,

Thank you for your feedback, it means a lot to me.

First of all, concerning the skill I have still a lot to learn! A good takeaway from this experience is that I sticked to what I could do well! I can guarantee you that when I play any other game from the jam I am wondering how they did this and that technically. In this game I sticked to the basics technically, and I didn't have the choice, to be honest, given that I just learned Godot ๐Ÿ˜…

The fact that there is no dialogue, initially is actually due to a lack of skill on my side to write good dialogues ๐Ÿ˜‚ But I wanted to express emotions, and I could do that with simple emoji bubbles. It's not difficult, at all, but it works ๐Ÿ˜

I did plan a bunch of time to make sure there were no bugs, I made a game jam before (You can find my other game, "Run! No, Jump!") and left lots of bugs, but I learned from this, and could plan a bit better.

Also, I have a musician background, so it came naturally to me to do a game about music.

I hope this comment can clarify some things :)

Thanks a lot again RemediaV for your message, I'm touched!

That intro cutscene made me feel like I was playing Zelda ALTTP again.  The first time he played the flute I was half expecting a bird to show up and carry him away!

The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is solid, and the inclusion of those musical puzzles really works.

Overall, a really good jam entry here.  Nice work!

Hi AJW8,

Your mention to Zelda caught me off guard, that touched me!
I cannot deny the influence the old Zelda games had on me, and a lot of us, for sure .

Happy to know that you liked all these aspects of the game.

Thank you for your feedback!

Awesome. Very cozy. I loved the sepia tones and the music.

I did struggle in the Simon says puzzle, but that was my headphones being crap and not my incompetence... definitely.

Developer

Hi victfv!

Thank you for playing the game and leaving your feedback!

I am glad you enjoyed the atmosphere. Haha that's a shame for the headphones ๐Ÿ˜œ
