This is brutally difficult. I started having a hard time on level five. Skipped to level 20 out of curiosity and it literally looks impossible. Maybe I'm missing something or I'm just bad lol but this is the hardest game I've played so far this jam. Not necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're going for. I'm actually curious, have you beaten all the levels yourself?

I also agree with the comment below, hitboxes should generally be smaller than you'd think, just feels better for the player. That's what geometry dash does (a lot, at times it can even look like you're more inside of spikes than outside), if you've played that. Makes things a little less frustrating. It's also generally better to have the player move at faster speeds. Just feels more rewarding for our action-loving monkey brains.

But yeah, overall this is cool. Cool concept, good job. (can't rate bc didn't submit on this account, sorry, but would rate nicely if I could :) )

Developer

Yeah, I've beaten all the levels myself - at this point I can generally do 20 in a few attempts, but I spent a lot of hours just playing the game during development so I certainly wouldn't expect that from a first-time player. I think I made level 20 on day 3 and it took me several minutes to beat, which feels like a good length. My mistake was that as I improved over the rest of that day and the next day, I started finding the level too easy, so I decided to make it harder, not considering that it was already at a good difficulty for a beginner player.

Thanks for the comment!

This is a great game, very well done! I don't think it is necessarily too hard, it's just way too punishing. Usually it's a good idea to make the characters hitbox smaller than it should be. Because even when it's perfect in size, it often feels like you shouldn't be hit. So often I ran into the clock just by missmeasuring the hitboxes. So especially with the really tight timings you have to get, that leads to a rather unstatifying feeling with almost every death. Because it feels like you can't take the moves as tight as possible, because you would get hit when you (seemingly) shouldn't.

Don't get me wrong though, it's been among (if not) the best I've played so far, even though it's very simplistic. But the levels are well made and the whole concept is quite unique and fun.

Well done!

btw: I gave up in level 20 and I had around 210 death in total. ( Why am I so bad? D: )

edit: Forgot to mention that the music is amazing! Certainly kept me playing for longer. Reminds me a bit of FTL's OST, and I love that! :)

Interestingly enough I actually thought of that exact idea about shrinking the hitbox when I was playing another game from this jam, and I encountered that exact problem. I'll be sure to use that next time I make a game similar to this one.

I had never actually heard of Faster Than Light until I read this comment, but after looking up the soundtrack I can see what you mean - the music does have a very similar style. My main inspiration, at least for one of the songs, was the song "Robot Waiting Room #4" from the Portal 2 OST.

Thanks a lot for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

I see the influence! And how can’t you know about FTL? It’s one of the big indie game hits for years! :D

Say, would you be interested in teaming up for a jam at some point? Music is certainly a blind spot for me… If so, maybe send me message on Twitter @_ggcaz or just here. :)

COol game, but very hard)

Submitted

Good game! But I would like the character to have a higher speed. Also, the first levels seemed too similar to each other. But I liked how the character looks and how he collides with objects on the stage.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I would have made the character faster or possibly added a dash with a cooldown, but by the time I came up with the idea I had already made half the levels, and I didn't think it was worth tweaking the speed of the hands on all of them. Thanks for your comment!

Okay 2#.

Art: 6/10 - I mean just look at it. The only art you've made was for the human but not for clocks.

Sound: 7/10 - The start of OST happened like 5 secs in as soon I started the game and the switch between music sounds weird.

Gameplay: 6/10 - The music is so weird, the first one is the best music out of the rest musics but the way it starts up is so weird (no offense, the music just scared me lmao). Got kinda stuck at 5 because of how fast are the large blades, I don't know if this is suppose to be a game similiar to world hardest game but this is actual world impossiblest game :)

Overall rating: 6.3/10 (Basically you tried)

That's good! Cool idea! Good job! You can rate my game if you want : )

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Sure, I'll have a look at your game.

This is the best game I've seen so far! Its hard but a fun hard, lots of levels and a story! Only thing I would add is a way to speed up/skip to the end of the text at the start of the game when its telling you the story of the game

Edit: I didn't realise that there was a way to skip so maybe add a button to skip the text to make it more clear

Developer(+1)

Ok, next time I have a cutscene like this I'll make it more obvious. The reason why I didn't do it this time was because I wanted to keep the inputs on the keyboard for the moment, and since the skip button that I had chosen was the down arrow, I didn't want the player to accidentally trigger it if they wanted to see if they could move during the cutscene. Instead, I could have shown the cursor and made it a clickable button, or just used a more obscure button on the keyboard. Thanks for the feedback!

Fun, but very hard game

This game is great and really fun, but i don't know about the difficulty curve here

Very cool concept and great level design (although I'm not sure about the order, level 3 is much harder than 4 and 5).  Start is a bit too tl;dr for me.

Developer

I did think a lot of players wouldn't be interested in the start. If you were unaware, there is an option to skip the cutscene if you hold or spam the spacebar. I'll add that to the description. As for the thing about the level order, that's interesting - I personally found 4 to be harder than 3 because it's more timing-focused, but I did have some trouble deciding the level order so I'm not surprised you found it to be a bit off. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

I think you were to good at the game when you set the order. I tried again now and after finishing all the levels yesterday. level 3 was easy now. That said, when you start playing you are still getting used to the controls.

I think the player immediately understands the concept that being closer to the center allows him to outpace the dials.

But level 3 is about tight control of the character, and is really hard in that regard (might even cause some players to give up, i had like 30 tries the first time, but did it in my third try on the second run).

Sorry for the long ramble about a game made in a couple of days :D

Developer

That's interesting. The Brackeys game jam is coming up a month from now, so if the game I make has similar controls then I'll be sure to take this into account. Thanks!

Really Enjoyed the Game! Great Job!

But it kinda sometimes feels like the character walks too slow so a sprint or dash would be cool and it would make the game a little easier if the clock hands didn't go all the way till the end of the safe zones(?)

and also now this jam has 69 submissions....(Nice)

Developer

I did think about adding in a dash or changing the player speed, and I would have done if it hadn't been for the time constraints. Unfortunately I had already designed around half of the levels by the time I came up with the idea, so I decided it wasn't worth doing. Thanks for the feedback! I've been a bit stressed over the jam so I'm really glad to hear you liked the game.
