I feel so burned out.

I feel extremely burned out. I think I won't participate in the final day. Not a single game I have worked on has advanced. It feels like I have just wasted an entire week of my life.  Game Jam rules for the next time should be changed: Ther shouldn't be sorting submissions by popular, submissions shouldn't be visible until the end of the jam, and there should be at least 12 hour choosing period between the jam days.

Yes! Submissions should only be visible at the next day. I totally agree with you

Yeah, to some degree, that does make sense, but the tricky part is having a jam specifically designed for that. I think that if the next time, the devs couldn't post any info regarding the game, then that might act similarly.

Oh, sorry to hear that. But at least you learned something, right? I mean, nobody ever got good at it by doing nothing--we try, we fail, and we repeat, until we have learned how to overcome any given problem--just like a game character. Hope that you can recover from exhaustion quickly!

Hey there! I think the best way to prevent that if this jam ever happens again is to find a group to pass the games around in. I don't think this is a violation of the "no communication" rule as you're not telling them anything about the game. You're only organizing who will pick up what game which prevents the issue of too many variants popping up one day and nobody being able to continue it for a later day. Check out the GDevelop Community post, you'll see that's how we did it and it worked fantastically, we didn't communicate with any of the other devs directly, we only chose which game we want to work on for each day to let the others know not to use up their one chance to work on it.

Eye! That's what kept most of these games running!

Really sorry to hear that, that sounds like a pretty deflating situation to be in... I honestly do wish I'd had more time on listen to the toys on day 4, it was actually a really beautiful project. I could see how much thought you put into it, and your code was so easy to read, so thank you. Even though your game didn't make it through, I'm glad I got to experience it :)

Yeah I put in a good amount of hours and worked my heart out on my Day 3 project only to have nobody pick it up (despite it being a decent project with lots of potential).

However, because I put so much work into it and ended up with so many unfinished plans, I now have a perfectly good starter project to pick up as a hobby  in the future and finish up.

Always gotta look on the bright side. The purpose of competition isn't always to win, but to see and share what you can accomplish

I had exactly the same situation. It's the closest I have come to fully finishing a game, so that's something. And I might just finish it...

Yes it is extremely unsatisfying, working so hard, but because nothing of my creation made it through day 6 I am feeling like it didn’t matter that I participated. I won’t even get reviewed. I really love this Jam but the rules are really mean to I think almost everyone but a handful of guys with 4 Exact same games worked on during the same day. Man this is a lot like society don’t you guys think?

I was thinking next time maybe remove the restriction of only being able to work on the previous day's game, and mark a game completed when it has 3 or 4 devs work on it.

That would be an interesting approach! I wonder if it’ll feel better or worse.

tbh the only time I felt dissapointed was yesterday's project, because I wasn't able to execute my vision- too ambitious.

The other projects felt satisfying, even the one that got dropped because I had a goal, and I executed that goal.

Anyways, in regards to it feeling better or worse I can't say much about that- the idea was that by limiting the number of developers, each developer is forced to make their shot really count whereas here I had the feeling like (oh I'll just focus on this because the next guy can work on that instead).

And being able to work on previous day's games should help with rng, maybe. Like there are a few games on here that really deserved a second shot.

That’s very true! lots of great games got left behind.

I see what you mean, my day 1 game didnt get continued at all even though I put a lot of effort into it.

I have an idea, that we could host our own jam, maybe next week or so as a bonus round for all the games that were left in dust. Maybe have 2-3 days to polish off those projects. Does anybody share interest in such an idea?

All my contributions were snuffed out as well; nothing I contributed is sitting in day 6. It's disappointing for sure, but for an event like this (being the first of its kind) it's understandable. Don't take any of it personally. If you're feeling burnt out, it's a good sign that you pushed yourself and personally accomplished something.

I agree! Game jams are generally good for pushing yourself to learn and try new things.
