Hey! Nice game!

What did I like:

  • The concept of using feelings and reactions as a combat system. This was a new concept and it played out well. It challenged me to think what I would think is the best strategy here and sometimes it worked sometimes not ^^. But in the end I managed to reach the adulthood :)
  • I did like the random colors. Although I happend to get mainly pink and purple ^^, but that's okay :)
  • I liked the encounter texts. All descriptions felt right in place and it was a bit like reading a story.

What can be improved:

  • The order of appearance of the encounters. Although the levels said surface and inside I thought it more like  starting as a baby and getting older (even if that was not mentioned anywhere). Therefore I was a bit confused when the first question was about my mother leaving me in a crib and then suddenly I have a crush and my parents divorce ^^. Maybe there's a way to chronologically order the items along the way. That would be nice.

That was a fun experience and certainly something I did not expect to find :)

Good job!

i like what you did here.

i find it uncomfortable to play.

because i don't like feelings.

i think i'll use self love.

This game was really cool. I’m going to play it again and see if I could beat it. The strategies seemed a little arbitrary for each situation (though maybe I missed some clues), but I really enjoyed the battle system and how they powered down and up based on your effectiveness in playing. I appreciate how the game spreads awareness of the impact of adverse childhood experiences. Nice work!

Also don’t know if this was a glitch or not but the opening screen had navy blue text on a dark purple page. It was very challenging to read. Upon replaying, I see that those colors are randomly chosen, so maybe just an untested feature. Very cool though.

Developer

Glad you thought the battle system was interesting!

Haha yes the answers to the situations are a little arbitrary; I tried to put at least 3 different winning strategies on each one, but I think some did not have any. And that's good feedback on the colors. Some definitely worked better than others.

What a cool concept, with some "real" iconopgraphy this would be amazing. I felt a bit like playing the old game "Alter Ego", where you are making choices to develop as a human, but in a Dungeon Crawler form. Please develop this further.

Developer

Iiiiinteresting, I've never heard of this game but it looks quite polished. I will check it out. Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting combat system. Well done.

Very unique concept. I love it

I don't know if it was only a coincidence but when I run the game with Google Chrome I reached the end with all area always loading (while I got plenty of area not loading with Firefox, which becomes a problem when it's not the first one).

The game was probably a little too serious for my taste but it was still fun overall.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Sorry you hit problems in the game. There is a bug in the random level generation that I've since fixed but was unable to patch on Itch due to the game jam judging period.

Haha ya it is a bit serious...

Cool idea, thanks for sharing this. This kind of originality, i think, could be developed into a more complete game. Good work.

Developer

Thanks! I was sort of on-the-fence when I thought of the idea, but it seemed to work ok in the end.

Brilliant concept! This is exactly the "try to think outside the box" I was asking for on the jam page! I want to play more of this :) Sadly I arrived at an area that was completely dark, but I've seen enough to appreciate what a cool idea it is. Well done :)

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! I did play these games when I was younger and really wanted to try something new (although the old style is quite nice too).

Yes there is a bug in the random level generation that I've since fixed but was unable to patch on Itch due to the game jam judging period.

Amazing concept. I found myself actually trying to think about how I'd feel in each situation and when it worked (as in when that choice was the final decision) it was an awesome experience, especially since there was a brief narrative snippet about the outcome. The fact that you can chose multiple solutions before the encounter is resolved does lead to a bit of confusion about what is the "right" answer, but I suspect that's kind of the point.

I think this type of "relationship crawl" or whatever it is would make a great full project.

Developer

Thanks, the game didn't go through any play testing with friends before publish so that's good feedback! I wasn't sure if the player would be able to figure out the game since it's a little abstract.

I've been thinking about "inner child"/early trauma stuff recently and tried to incorporate that into dungeon crawler.

Wow this is an awesome concept. Really loved the variety in situations and how each strategy reacts and it feels quite natural. Would really love to see this polished and expanded upon.

I got as far as 'The Deep' a couple of times but each time the screen doesn't light back up when I enter that level. This also happened once when I started a fresh run, you might want to take a look at this. (You can still play, but it's all pitch dark and you can't really navigate).

Awesome idea!

Developer

Appreciate the feedback on the idea. Wasn't sure how it'd land with people. Haven't played many games like this lol.

Ahh that's disappointing that you encountered a bug! Sorry to hear that. I played through several times and can't reproduce it, although you are not the only one to hit it :(

interesting concept. I could see this being worked on into something more better later :)

Developer

Thank you! That feels very validating.
