Needs some polishing.. worst offender was, of course, movement that sometimes would take a long time to become active. Sounds and anything visual about hitting an enemy (and killing it) also would do it a lot of good. I wasn't sure bugs were dying or just running through me for a while, especially since they did run from me a lot - pain to chase.

Foundation is there and it can turn into a really awesome game indeed.

I beat a lvl 1 owl bear (and I don't think I am going to try to beat a lvl 10 one, that thing is strong).

The game has an overall quite interesting look. Working on night and day, with associated mechanics, is a good use of the theme and the game is fun to play, although waiting for all the enemies' turn is just a bit long (it stays reasonable).

Good job.

Neat game. The day/night cycle was a nice touch, although it seemed like I never was strong enough to beat the night enemies, although maybe that was intentional to encourage the use of shortcuts. I found the shortcuts a bit difficult to find, as it was only a few runs in that I managed to figure out where one was. I appreciated the thought put into supporting the different control types; it's not often that I see a jam game supporting controller.

If you made a banner and put up some screenshots on your itch page (you can edit the page freely, just not upload new builds), you'd probably get more people playing.

Developer

Thanks, I didn't work on the banner because I felt the game looked pretty bad but now I think I'll throw something up.

you were right about the night cycle. The level scaling is your level + 3 and I had plans for a night super boss but well...

Very nice gameplay loop. Cool mechanics! Was missing audio. Sidenote: I really appreciate the controls!

A lot of time was put into making sure everyone had some kind of usable control scheme. Between controller and figuring out m&k, I think I did an okay job (aside the tab menu bug).

Man night-time is hard, hah. I eventually got it that you need to run back and heal at night since it's safest. And I found the owl bear which is neither an owl, nor a bear hahaha. Good concept, but could use a little balance tweaking and some sounds. Had no problem with the controls myself and I abused the torch bug (even if it runs out, the light stays on :D )

Developer (1 edit)

Oh finally somebody made it to the end. The owl bear is actually a Phantasy Star reference. I'm surprised you thought the torch was bugged. When the torch runs out its light radius is halved and the fire texture changes.

*edit* Never mind I see the bug.

I wander around, killing the butt faced spiders.

Short days and nights, I must say.

Didn't see no owls.

Didn't see no bears.

Didn's see no owlbears.

Just lots of spiders.

Developer

Its in the room directly west of spawn. The idea was to travel a semi linear hallway with intermediate shortcuts while avoiding night cycles, but yea the day/night and enemy balancing is all wack.

I had to press twice to move a lot, and didnt totally figure out the turning hehe. I like the way you set up the game by going into the dungeon/inn though. Cool concept!

Controls felt bit unresponsive. I had to sometimes press twice to move or rotate. Fighting wasn't visually clear but, I managed. I like the premise of the game. Needs more polishing.

Developer

There's no turn queue so that delay was off screen enemies taking turns, but yea visually its a mess because assets where the last thing built.
