Cool concept! I liked the creature design and battle system. The only issue I saw was in the inventory menu when you hover over items on the left side of your inventory it goes outside of the screen so you can't read what it does.
Really cool concept! Intro text went by a bit too quickly to read, I had to restart to catch it. I accidentally made a bunch of omelets out of my eggs, which apparently do nothing for me, so I got a bit stuck :(. I think I was about to win, as I was backtracking to the one Spiderwolf I'd left alive when apparently I died of hunger, despite a backpack full of broccoli, but that tracks with my behavior in real life, so I'll take it. The monsters looked great, really cool combinations!
I think I did most content. I killed everything I could find and cooked all recipes. Also found the infinite glitch from the chests. It is a cool and different take on a dungeon crawler and I liked it. May have preferred to have a base area where I had to go back to and cook over a fire or similar, and then try to get deeper and deeper into the dungeon. And surely having a blunt pan attack should be a must in all games...
The claw cassarole seems to have a blank image in the inventory.
Nice done!
Thanks for taking the time to play and explore all the content! I wasn't aware of any glitch with the treasure chests so you might have found a new bug 🐞Seems like you also found an issue with the casserole which is unfortunate. 🙃
I agree that a base area to cook at would be a nice touch, and it was something I wanted to include in the game. I honestly just couldn't figure out how in the time limit so I made it easier to cook anywhere in the dungeon. In the future I will definitely add cooking stations throughout the dungeon, with maybe an extra bonus for meals cooked at different cooking stations. Just a thought.
This was really cool. I liked the idea of gathering food throughout the dungeon and having to balance my health, hungerr and thirst while having to 'hunt' ingredients from each type of enemy. The art is well done, each enemy is pretty unique so that was a huge plus. The combat hands/frying pan are great too. Movement is rock solid, really snappy and I enjoyed the whole thing!
Nothing much to complain about here, I enjoyed it!
Thank you 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed playing and appreciate you taking the time to leave some feedback. This was a fun concept for me to bring to life and I'm excited to develop this into a full game later this year!
This has got to be the most original dungeon crawler I’ve played so far!
The digitized hands, the “splorch” when attacking the future menu items, it all worked really well together.
I loved the sense of humor in the recipes as well!
Great job!
Thank you, I'm glad you think so! I had a lot of fun working on this one 😃
I wasn't sure when I started on this project if the dungeon crawling would work well with the cooking mechanics but it seems to have worked out pretty well. I appreciate your feedback and thanks for taking the time to check out my game jam entry!
I don't even know how I did it, but I ate the ultimate dish! Great ideas all round, love the survival aspect and the combat mechanics. Some goofs with the menus here and there (the tooltips on the left side are basically unreadable) but otherwise an entry that does what it sets out to do very well.
Awesome, glad you got to eat the ultimate dish! 🙂 I appreciate the feedback and I'm sorry you experienced some bugs with the tooltips. Gonna look into that and see what I can do to fix it!
I've eaten the ultimate dish.
The game is fun. Movement and perspective are good. For this short game determining the right weapon for each enemy was better than nothing and I like resource-management so I enjoyed the combat in this one.
Feedback in combat takes too long for my taste, you should be able to bypass it by pressing buttons. Bombs especially and possibly buff items on top of the various refreshing items would have been cool.
Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on eating the Ultimate Dish! (It's pretty tasty)
Thank you for the feedback. 🙂 I agree that there should be buff items also, it was something I wanted to add but didn't have time during the jam. This will 100% be a feature of recipes in the full version. Never thought about a system to skip the battle feedback but that is a really good idea, thanks! Also what did you have in mind for bombs in the game? That sounds like it could be a cool item.
Not sure, I guess explosive bowels and recipes using explosive bowels can make good consumables which make damage.
I think this is the game with best core gameplay and flow in this game jam. This is a perfect game to make in 9 days game jam. Just core, solid gameplay after a little introduction title and muahh, just lovely! Timing of the game is perfect too, just when everyone is crazy about that weird Dungeon cooking anime :) It could become a hit if you develop into completion and release it on steam. Really cool game, nicely done!
Awesome! I am really happy you liked the game 🙂 Definitely want to work on this title some more to turn it into a full game. It might be a few months before I can get something up on Steam but that is the goal!
Hah, such an amusing entry! This is a cool concept that could be expanded into a full fledged game! I agree it would've been funnier with some more interesting sound effects during the combat, maybe even some cheesy music, but the game does what it aims to do. Now I'm going to go eat something.
Thank you! 🙂
I agree that the combat and game in general needs a sound overhaul, which is something I plan to fix in the post jam version! Glad you had a good time playing and think that this would make a nice full fledged game. I am thinking to expand on this concept over the next 6 months and hopefully get something uploaded to Steam!
I was really looking forward to this one as I was following the dev pics with interest.
title menu and graphics top notch. but when the game started, I felt the graphics style changed from the more retro low res to a higher (les interesting) res.
Movement was ok, but felt a little sluggish.
I got the calimari and pressed the red button next to it and the game froze, so had to start again.
My biggest gripe was the combat. From the dev pics I was expecting something interesting. what I got was 2 pics for an attack, and the pics were pixelated and big and not nice to look at.
What was I wanting?
I wanted to go around banging stuff with the frying pan. I wanted CLANG, and THUD noises. I wanted to be able to sneak up on something and batter it sensless while smiling all the time. I didn't get that :(
What I did get was sorta ordinary. sorta wander, poke, Meh!
Give me the Battering Pan and a good ole THWOK!
You fo get better point for taking the pics. Next time focus on the gameplay and the THWOK. I still hanker hunting banging and cooking... :)
Hey there, thank you for the feedback! Sorry that the game didn't meet your expectations, I definitely had to make some tough calls in what to focus on during the limited time. I'm surprised that the movement seems sluggish based off the direct feedback I received about how nice and responsive it seemed for others! Maybe there is an issue somewhere that is dragging down performance on your system? Could be something I just completely overlooked.
I originally had animated attacks for the combat but had to cut that in favor of static images that swap out, due to issues triggering the animations that caused the battle system to not work. So I decided to focus on creating something playable and patching issues like combat animation and sounds in the post jam build.
Again thanks for the feedback, I look forward to playing your game!
Interesting concept of thirst and hunger for dungeon exploration, I kind of panicked a bit at some point, until I realized that I can eat berries, truffles and all the other broccoli too.
It can benefit from having a way to track what ingredients you have for each dish. I’ve actually only created like 3 types of the dishes (including the ultimate one), as after I’ve created an egg dish I haven’t figured out if it does something or not, so I’ve assumed that other dishes are not doing anything too.
I'm happy you like the hunger and thirst mechanics! Hmm, were the tooltips not showing up on the food items that tell you what they do? There are supposed to be pop-ups that inform the player what the items do when they hover their mouse over the item in the inventory. All of the dishes should do something. Most of them restore the players stats by some amount.
Thank you for taking the time to play my game and leave feedback!
I actually just assumed that they’re just ingredients for the dishes, but as I’ve come to a point when I figured out what ingredients do, I payed attention to those tooltips and ate a lot of veggies :D
Fun game! I enjoyed the combat, difficulty was well balanced. It needs an extra something, like story or event to make me want to keep going after dying. The combat was good, but still a bit repetitive. I REALLY liked how most fights were optional, and not random.
Thank you! That is a good point, I will think about adding in some extra story and maybe some hidden lore in the future 🙂 I appreciate you taking the time to play my game jam entry!
okay so this was my favorite so far. I'm a sucker for collecting things in games, and the conceit of trying to assemble some ultimate recipe gives this a cool focus. Plus it reminds me of Battle Chef Brigade, so there's that lol
Awesome! ❤️ I'm happy you enjoyed playing!
Graphics are quite nice and some of the creatures are very creative and funny. The recipe idea was cool, but I need more feedback in the battles, imagine a nice "doooong" sound effect with the frying pan. Cool stuff...
Thank you for the review! I would have liked to add more sound effects and general feedback/instructions to the player but ended up having to leave those things out due to a lack of time. I agree 100% that the game could use some more sound effects and better ways to let the player know what is happening. I appreciate you taking the time to play my entry and leave your feedback 🙂
Hey, the combat here was really fun, enjoyed playing this one. Found some bugs that I think happens only in my machine, but well, the game is fun to play and these bugs don't get too much in the way.
I started with a youtube channel and I featured you game with a mini-review: Playing GameJam's games - Dungeon Crawlers - YouTube
Thank you for your review! I watched your YouTube play through and it seems you were having some issues that are only present in the WebGL version (the one you can play in the web browser). The downloadable versions don't seem to have any of the issues that have been found in the web version. I really appreciate being able to watch someone play through the game to see how others will approach it!
(EDIT: THE WEBGL VERSION HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED FROM THE PAGE DUE TO ISSUES NOT FOUND IN THE DOWNLOAD VERSIONS)
i definitely like the concept, I had similar ideas flying around in my head after keeping up with "delicious in dungeon" and "frieren" over the past couple of months.
Does the game just end after you beat that mandatory owl or did i run into a bug?
Thanks for the feedback! I actually haven't seen Delicious in Dungeon but enough people have commented about the similarities that I have to go check it out 🙂
Oh no! That is not supposed to happen!! The only way the game should be over is if you die (from damage, hunger, or thirst) or if you cook "The Ultimate Dish" and eat it! Sorry you ran into a bug that made it unbeatable for you, I will work to test and fix this for the post jam version.
Nice job! great presentation and atmosphere! great concept as well!
Thank you! I had a lot of fun working on this one 🙃
