Good game, the art looked great and the game was fun to play, continue to develop it, nice work!
Thank you, I did indeed continue to develop it. Now the review period is over it can finally be uploaded.
This is the starting of a solid gameplay loop. I did have the game crash on me while trying to talk to one of the people (towards the bottom of the screen in the hotel lobby) and another when trying to enter the door at the bottom of the screen in the hotel lobby. Due to the 2nd crash, I didn't attempt to play through anymore. Main areas I could see improved is a more consistent art style, and a more buttoned up gameplay experience (less crashes). You made good audio choices and the main detective gameplay loop seemed to be pretty good
Thank you for taking the time to review at least. I did not have enough time (don't we all?) to iron out all the bugs and didn't get to finish the content that was planned. Hopefully the version uploaded now satisfies your expectations.
For sure, jams really do help give the realization that over estimating abilities and under estimating the struggles is common lol
Nice work for Mystery Game.
This game was a cool experience to have. I like the idea of a murder mystery and figuring out clues from the inside out and the art, especially the portraits came out amazing! The movement animations look a bit off for this genre and it did felt off putting seeing the drastic contrast between in-game characters and the portraits at the same time as someone mentioned. In the beginning I was trying to read the text, but I wasn't fast enough as they go to the next section, it also became too much text later in the game that I just started skimming through everything. As I was trying to figure out the mystery, I interacted with a door and then my game crashed. Besides those nitpicks, this game has a lot of potential to be something incredible!
As it was my first time delving into a visual novel type of game, I indeed had some issues with making it more natural. Hopefully my final version has tackled the issues you had in terms of bugfixes and overall contrast.
Good job! This project evidently has had so much love poured into it. The portraits and pixel art are all gorgeous, although they clash a little when placed next to each other. I would've never thought to make a murder mystery game. Maybe for the next project!
Congrats on finishing!!
Thank you for your review, your game was great by the way
cool! I made a mystery game too, but it's cool to see how much ours differ. I really like the art, and the retro vibe with the digitized image of the manor during the cutscene reminds me of my favorite aesthetics! I think this game could benefit from a different font to fit the old-timey mystery feel, and the portraits might look more fitting if they were lower resolution to match the game. Overall, it's a ambitious idea for a game and pulls of a nice atmosphere :D
I did exactly what your feedback suggested and added some customizable settings
Overall it’s a 4/10, it could be more but it feels really rushed
As you played the very first version it did indeed have some unfinished parts, some of which got rectified about an hour later. The version uploaded now hopefully has tackled most of the issues (except 1).
