Really loved the audio design in the game! Props to the voice actors and the sound designer. The constructive criticism I wanted to give has already been mentioned in the earlier comments, so I'm gonna refrain from adding the same thing again!(it's the combat system's risk-reward, and the attack times)
Hey thanks for playing the game! Yup I'm actually making a finished version of the game after the jam and it includes addressing the combat issues people mentioned! I even made the enemies be able to jump too, so next update should be interesting lol
Sadly due to a bug, I didn't respawn in a bossfight. Combat system lacked some risk (could mostly play it safe from a distance because enemies couldn't jump over gaps). The fact that the context window when using right click was constantly popping up made it so I avoided using it. perhaps disabling that behaviour makes it more suited for browser builds. The rest of the game looked pretty good
Thanks for playing! The boss fight is currently bugged as I didn't have time to finish the vision I had for her encounter. But, I am going to finish it after the jam! For the combat system, that was one worried I had, but didn't really had time to code a solution too, that's why for the golem fights I made sure the player couldn't do that. I will see if I can code the guard enemies to jump too! For the window issue I'm not sure what you mean? I didn't see other players had that issue and when playing in the web I didn't either. Can you send me a screenshot so I can better address that issue?
When you right click on the screen the context window appears (that also appears when you usually right click on a website):
Ah that's so weird, thanks for addressing this! Update: I just tried doing what you did and it doesn't pull up the tab. Maybe its for certain computers? I'll have to look into more
The game is overall very solid, although there are a few things that take me out of the experience. The attacks take a little too much time to cast. I think with the restriction of the mana bar, the attack cast times can be reduced. A basic attack that has no cast time could also help a lot. (This could be an attack that doesn't require mana to cast for those dire situations where you're getting attacked, with no mana to fight back)
Thanks for playing! Yeah the attacks I will have to playtest some more as I didn't had much time this time around. I was originally aiming for positioning and comboing of your spells, but I can do more playtesting after the jam and tweak the combat to feel more fun to use!
This is really polished for a game jam game! I wasn't at all expecting voice acting when I went into this. It's not the most amazing VA work I've heard, but it's still very impressive given the time constraints. The artwork is fantastic, and the music really adds to the fantasy feel that this game has. The abilities are neat, though I had to guess which ones worked on which enemies. The controls for them are also rather clunky, and the amount of time it takes to do them is kinda slow. There were so many times when I was getting the crap beaten out of me by an enemy while trying to do one of the abilities. Using W for jumping was also a bit awkward, but it's not the worst. The story I think is pretty neat, and I think I was able to follow along with it just fine. The ending was a bit anticlimactic, though. I don't know if this was intentional, but she just sorta disappears out of thin air, and then the game freezes. I understand if there wasn't time for a super elaborate ending due to the aforementioned time constraints, though, haha. Overall, I think it's pretty good. 8/10. :>
Thanks for the detailed feedback and for playing the game I appreciated it! I wanted to tell a story in this jam so visuals and audio was something I wanted to focus heavily for this jam. For the attacks I can definitely rework some things as I didn't had time to fully playtest them in this jam. Is W not how most platformers use for jumping? If you using arrow keys its also the Up arrow. The boss fight I didn't have to finish sadly as I had awesome idea for her and even had the animations ready, but didn't have enough time to code her and playtest the bugs. I am looking to finish her encounter after the jam however! Thanks for the review and playing!
Good game! The art and audio is well made. my suggestion is to add at least one instant attack and a health bar for the girl. and a space for jump.
Edit: I mean space bar for jump.
Hey thanks for playing! The boss fight is not finished, I didn't have enough time to code the desired combat I had in mind for her and then it got bugged as well. But I am looking to finish her after the jam
A good game, the gameplay is a standard platformer, the controls are a little inconvenient, but everything is done efficiently!
Good luck with future projects)
Thanks for playing! Do you have any suggestions for the controls? As I'm looking to improve and finish this game after the jam
Super cool graphics!
And really nice voice acting, there is a lot of efforts in the overall immersion thanks to the narrative, the audio and the art overall!
It was a bit hard to use controls, the jump felt a bit weird at first and the combat felt a bit slow but that was probably intended.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for playing! I really wanted to tell a story in this jam and I'm glad I was able to succeed in that! As for the gameplay, thanks I'll see if I can tweak after the jam
The art is amazing. The voice acting is impressive. The combat sometimes feels slow or lacking, but the game is great! Well done!
Thank for playing, happy to hear you enjoyed it! For the combat I was experimenting with the idea of like a slow planning your attacks type of game, but I probably miscalculated the ideal slowness, will take the feedback into consideration!
good game
Good job!
Great job everyone! Art polish and VA was really nice. I also liked how each ability had it's situational strength.
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the art and voice acting! For the abilities I wanted to carefully think of ways that each spell can shine while still having its cons, but put together can bring some fun engagements!
I really like the game.
Unfortunately I could not finish it because like Carlos said. I died at the end screen and the game froze.
The Pixelart, Voice Acting and the use of the abilities is really nice tho.
Ayyyee glad you enjoyed the game! Yup the final boss is currently bugged, but I'll be sure to fix it after the jam
I made it to the last boss (I think?), but I died and the game didn't restart.
Really loved the pixel art and VA.
Thanks for playing the game! Yeah the final fight is bugged for some reason and I didn't have time to fix it. But I will be sure to fix it after the jam!
wholesome game, little slow but nice to play.
Thanks for playing!
Cute game. Love the pixel art. Platforming was a bit janky and the player was slow but good job!
Thanks, glad you love the design! I was aiming for slow strategy, but I may have made the character too slow in the process haha
