How does your game fit the theme?
It's a more narrative take on the theme, the goal was to be "on rails" doing the car race, but the player can choose to free themself from them if they choose to go in the open world.

Driving feels good. Not sure I was supposed to get out of bounds on the inside of the track during lap 1. I'll have to come back to this one

Trying to skip the opening cutscene on my second attempt of the game led me to pull up the quest log well before the game reveals its true nature.

Nice concept ! The way out of the road is a bit too easy to miss, but a fun way to start out the adventure. Too bad that the adventures stops where it starts, I would have loved to see some ending ^^ Also this intro cinematic is gold 👌

The Linux build crashed on startup on my Pop!_OS 22.04 workstation, but I was able to run the Windows build using Wine.

I loved the low-poly PS1 vibe, and the music is a GREAT choice for this vibe. The idea of a race that isn't necessarily is very clever. I successfully escaped the track and found the quest map when I paused, but ended up clipping through a mountain into the sea, but was able to extricate myself!

Movement speed feels fine on the track, but a bit fast and slippery in the open world (I was using keyboard controls, though).

Is there any way to interact with the characters in the village, etc.?

Developer

Oh no, I don't know why the build crashed 😢
I know someone who's been able to launch it (Gentoo), and I myself am on Manjaro,

That said, thank you for playing and exploring the game, and even being able to unclip yourself!
To interact with villagers you can use [E] on the keyboard (or A on a controller), in theory there is a popup hint displayed when near them 🤔

I ran into issues with the Linux build too, though I was on Ubuntu.

Ha! Similar to Skosnowich, it wasn’t until lap 4/3 that I fell off the track while trying to go through the hole off to the side of the race. I really liked the intro and the music fit really well. I was missing some sound effects and the speed was maybe a bit too fast? Really cool race track and terrain it looks great! Thank you for making this.

Haha I was so surprised when it suddenly turned into another kind of game. Very cool, would be happy to see some more content.

I actually loved visuals very much, also very nice palette. Needs sounds though.

And the FediJam banners on the tribunes was a cute touch, made me feel good.

10/10 better than trackmania

For real, nice work and awesome intro sequence

I think I was on lap 5/3 when I fell off the race tracks and noticed that I might need to go through that little gap in the track to continue the game. 😅 It was pretty quite after the intro song, but that song did contribute pretty well to the race feeling. Personally, I don't like this pixelized 3D-look, but I think its well done. Nice prototype!
