Hello! I was one of the streamers who took part in Feedback Quest, and I'm here to leave some comments I had while playing.

I'm a fan of the visuals, especially in the background. However, beyond this I just felt kind of confused. It didn't feel like there was an intended goal for the game, just to see how long you last. If this IS what you want, okay then. However, I do feel that an end point and some sort of set-up for why you're doing this would be good.

That's about all I got. Hope to see it again in the future.

I'm a fan of this. For the levels are there basically a set amount of rooms and then the start and end points get shuffled around? And what determines the order of the levels?

Anyways I thought it was a cool idea to have the levels changing around however they were and the movement mostly felt good. The background effects and stuff also add a lot to the game visually to make it look polished

Things to improve:

  • I feel like theres a decent amount of potential head bonking in the levels, which can be the wrong kind of difficult.
  • imo the jump would feel better if the jump height was variable based on how long you hold jump
  • Landing on platforms could be a more generous (there were a lot of times where I thought I was gonna land on a platform but barely missed)
  • The animation for jumping looked out of place. Idk how to describe it but it just felt silly compared to the vibe of everything else]

Overall I did genuinely enjoy playing this game and found myself playing to beat my record instead of just playing till I know enough to write a review, which is a really good sign

Update: I got to 39... so close

This game is fun and addictive, I really like the art style and fluid animation! However there seemed to be some levels that were impassable. Regardless this is a great first step towards making a wonderful game! Great Job!

On my stream I have found the character to feel slippery trying to perform the jumps and what not, I am not sure if it's just me. Some platforms at the beginning are a bit too hard for beginners who just got in and try to understand the game. Thankfully the game itself is pretty straight forward. Fun concept.

Wheee! Space vibes!!!

I somehow like the alien style graphics and the fitting sound. The generated(?) levels vary a lot in difficulty. I'm not even sure whether all are solvable, but maybe that's just me. The stirring was precise, just sometimes too fast for me.

It's a bit demotivating that you eventually get eaten anyway, it's just a question of how many levels you clear before that. I think the game could become better with some overarching mission-style concept or a map or something that makes you feel that you progress even when failing. Add at least a visible highscore.

The screen size did not adapt when I turned on full screen, so it's actually too small to play well on a computer. – I think it anyway would work best as a phone game.

Good luck with the further development! :)

  • Nice and simple platformer
  • I found levels that have portal on the complete opposite part of the map more fun - it's much better of a challenge this way. Seing a big level when you need to traverse only like 20% of it feels a bit strange, but I totally see why you did it and it's quite clever! You can fix this thing by introducing pickups with score and additional time, that will make the whole level work even if the portal is easy to reach.
  • Controls feel pretty good at first, but are a little bit problematic in two situations:
    • First, you have a really high acceleration, which makes it hard to maneuvre around small elements. It is very hard to land on a tiny little platform sometimes. Inertia and air contol all feels good - it's just the matter of being able to be more precise
    • Second, headbumping into the ceiling. There's where inertia falls short a little bit, and the character starts moving down pretty much instantly. This can be okay if you could control the height of your jump - in many games like this the jump is not actually and instant action - It keeps pulling you up as long as you press the button, and leave you the the inertia when you release it. This opens a lot of options for precise controls and introduces a skill to be good at

I don't know how familiar are you with the game called N (latest installment being N++ on Steam), but it has controlls figured out perfectly for a game like this. Even without complex physics and wall jumps, just a basic jump feels really cool there and gives you a lot of control, specifically - headbumping into ceiling and jump height controls. My initial impression of your game was very similar. It also handles the timer and level design very nicely, so I strongly advice you to check it out - although, I somehow have a feeling you have already :)

Good luck!

We've definitely considered adding pickups as a way to force the player to choose between going straight for the exit or trying to get some kind of bonus for taking a detour, but utlimately we decided to keep the scope of the game to a minimum so we could finish within the timeframe we gave ourselves.

We'll very likely be revisiting the core gameplay and especially the character controller based on the problems you described.  N+ was certainly a game we had in mind when making this one.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback, and good luck to  you too!

I wanted to try your game, but the web player only displays a static image and even though your game is listed as Mac and Linux there's only a Windows build :/

Howdy, thanks for letting us know. We just uploaded a mac build, but unfortunately we don't have a mac, so it's untested. Hope it works!

Hi, sadly it doesn't 😔 I've tried on both intel and arm Mac and it says the app file cannot be opened.  I'll setup a Windows dual boot to test your game and a lot of others. A lot of games are windows only and I don't wan't to miss on the fun!

Alrighty, sorry you're having technical difficulties with the game. We looked into it and the game does take a few (10-15) seconds to load before the unity logo appears and the game is ready to play. Not sure if that might help. We've also uploaded it to newgrounds. Maybe you can try your luck there?
