I enjoyed this, I like the fact that you can shoot the other bullets too :)

Developer

Yes!  It wasn't intentional, but when I saw it, I was like "I'm keeping that!"  A bug that turned into a feature!

Great voice overs (yes, even "boring you" ;p lol) I am not really sure how unreal works, but I would have really liked a health bar at least for me and possibly for them - especially the last one... was he just really more difficult to beat than the others? Or was I just missing him a lot... I would really have liked crosshairs too. having so many buttons was really cumbersome, but we didn't wind up really using crouch or jump so it was ok - if you expand on this I hope everyone plays with a controller instead. 🙃 And I love the time slow down - one of my favorite things to be able to do in a game, reminiscent of good ol' Max Payne 👍Great job!!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!  Yes, I would have been able to do a health bar and such, but I wasn't able to get around to that as I'm not as familiar with that part of game dev yet.   And yes, the last guy has a lot of health (something I would change post-game jam), and I think there might've been some glitches with him too.   There was supposed to be a crosshair, but it kept glitching out, and I wasn't able to identify the cause as I noticed too late.   Glad you enjoyed it nonetheless!

Oh! I forgot to mention - great tutorial at the beginning. That's how all games should be 😁 Impressive you got that included in the 48 hours. I of course ran out of time and wound up with a big ugly green box of text at the beginning of my game 🤣

Developer

Yeah, the tutorial I actually set up close to the beginning as I knew that was a priority as some of the controls were non-intuitive.

The voice acting, sound, and the story were the strongest aspects of the game. Visuals were good, too. I would've been interested to see how the story continued. The sound design was great all around.

Mechanically, I would've like to see more done with the time mechanic. I would've liked to see something that made the game feel unique. I didn't really see a strong tie to the theme at all, though I know that was sort of part of the story.

I bet you could have made something pretty impressive if you had a little more time to work! This is a solid project for the time you had!

Developer

Thank you so much!  Yes, the story did continue but the last level (Level 5) after the base on the ice would not load due to a bug that I did not realize existed until after I submitted the game.  Also, if you are stuck after killing the first robot, go to the vent on the side of the wall.

Submitted

Yes I was able to make it to the end where the bug prevents the last part from loading, and I did read the ending dialogue. I was more saying that I'd like to see more of the story outside of what you did here, as in a longer game. It was kinda interesting!

Developer

Oh!  Well.   I'm sure I might be able to accommodate that!

The graphics on this were intense!  The voice acting too :)  It was a little too much for my computer to handle (Macbook Pro 2020 with i7 and AMD 5500M GPU running windows in parallels), and had some major slowdowns and freezes a few times.  Also, is it supposed to end after you kill the robot?  The door to the next room wouldn't open at that point.

But those little complaints aside, it's really impressive you were able to crank this out in only 13 hours!  I tried to do a FPS myself and only was able to finish a prototype in time.  Bravo, bravo.

Developer(+1)

Hey, sorry, this wasn't clear in the game, but there is a vent nearby the first robot.  That will take you to the next level.  Sorry about that!

Submitted

Loved the voice acting & the concept, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  Did you have a problem running the game?  I'm concerned that it could be a widespread issue.

Thanks again for playing!

Submitted

Nope everything was smooth and I didn't encounter any problems!

Developer(+1)

Sweet!  Thank you so much for letting me know!

Were you able to play the game in one go?  XD  The respawn system really bugged for me.

Submitted(+1)

There was some minors bugs but I just restarted the game and everything was good!

Ran really poorly for me. My computer has a core i3 processor and gtx 1650, and it brought my computer to it's knees trying to run. Also I could not find the theme at all in the game. Maybe I just missed it or something. Looks good however and the voice acting was a nice touch.

Developer (1 edit)

Yes, the theme was more in the voice acting rather than in the game.  Since I was only able to work on it Saturday, I wasn't able to do a whole lot.   Thanks for the feedback!  Sorry about the performance!   I have a pretty decent laptop that I was working off of, so I didn't realize that it was performance heavy; sorry about that.

Developer

I have an I7 and a GTX 1050, and it runs just fine for me; plus it's a laptop.   Was it running the game with the GPU?

Once in the OneDrive, you'll need to download the Zip folder using the button Download All in the top left corner, once downloaded, extract all, and launch the GameJamFinale.exe.  You must choose the empty slot to play the whole game.  The other two slots are bugs.  If you do not see occupied slots, then ignore this part.

Leave a comment "I survived the Bug!" if you played the game!

Three other known bugs: Hover mouse at 2 o'clock angle a bit of distance on main menu and two or three o'clock on pause menu to press the buttons.

While there is a respawn system, you must play the game without dying once as the level teleport will not work if you die and respawn.  The game is not hard so this shouldn't be a problem.  If you die then just restart the game, sorry for the inconvenience.

Also, this does not support Mac.  I fully acknowledge that this means I am not competing if this disqualifies me, but I wanted to go ahead and submit it anyway, even if it cannot compete.  Thanks!

Also, when playing, if an enemy is trying to shoot you while you are behind a door, step to the side so that they cannot see you, let the door open and then slip in, otherwise you won't be able to enter the next area.  XD

Thanks for playing!

One last bug was discovered: The last level Level 5, does not load up when you try to enter it.  I'm not 100% sure why this is, and since the Unreal Editor file got messed up, I cannot retrieve and fix it.

Here's the dialogue that was supposed to be at the end of the game:

Intercom Scientist Guy (Bad guy):  APCAI, please stop!  Think about what you are about to do!  Think about what we could achieve!  A new world order!  Peace!  We can Defend Humans together; all you have to do, is shut yourself down.

APCAI: Directive Golden takes priority.

APCAI: Father, the Dead are Raised to Life.

APCAI self-destructs to prevent the scientist from retrieving him and any of the technology, thereby, saving humanity from himself.
