Jam Judge

Strong points:

  • Charming concept
  • Explains the game largely by contextual gameplay
  • jumping felt good
  • all in all very good puzzle progression

Other feedback

  • movement animation really minimalistic
  • sometimes movement freezes when switching to a very close partner, but continues after some button presses
  • level 7 and 8 would have made for me if they would have switched its order, 8 felt easier than 7 and helped me better to understand what to do in 7
  • music feels a bit exhaustive after some loops, but I liked it
  • Level 14 felt like a big difficulty spike. because the platform duration was pretty short.
  • platform hitboxes duration time related to visibility are not in sync
  • I was not sure if I did the correct thing in room 2 of stage 15, i jumped on the spiders head and then over its left claw to the platforms with the butterfly. Took me a while to figure out. then room 3 or 4 was somehow not important because I just needed to jump on the buddy and charm. was there supposed to be some kind of mechanic?
  • Regarding the theme it was okay

I really enjoyed playing through this short puzzler. The dev/team has a general idea how to scale difficulty and to introduce new mechanics organically. Just here and there was a bit of trial and error necessary.

Thank you for your review and your feedback!

The game's art and music was done very quickly, I didn't have time to polish it, due to some inconveniences in the week.

I agree the level 7 and 8 should have been changed.

You didn't do it wrong in phase 15, I had to do it quickly, because it was already on the last day. I intend to change it completely, I don't like how it is now.

Thank you very much for playing. I really enjoy trying out new mechanics mid-game, so I'm glad I did.

Very cute!

I think I found a bug (besides the characters): I got stuck around level 9  - the button on the platform wouldn't react when I stepped on it with the ant, so I couldn't let the butterfly out.

Developer

Sorry for the inconvenience. I believe this happened because of the level lag, you can try to reset it with the start button.

A version fixing bugs and reducing lag will be released soon.

thanks for playing it :>

Fun mechanic, but the ant-switching controls felt awkward and laggy. Switching from the 1st ant with B and from the 2nd ant with Select constantly tripped me up.

Developer(+1)

Sorry for the inconvenience. The choice of buttons was for the player not to confuse the used ant. Soon I will choose to use a single button (probably just Select).

Thank you for enjoying the mechanics!

This is exactly the kind of project we're waiting for for a Jam :p
Very nice rendering for the lightning, bravo !

Thank you for your comment! And wow this was better than I thought on Game Boy! I know that the Game Boy screen is very dark, so I wanted to use lighter colors for the characters.

The thunder was a very difficult thing to do, I'm glad you liked it! :>

This is such an interesting idea of a platformer/puzzle/story/adventure game.  I thought it was an original idea to use ants as our main hero.Nice job!

Developer

Thank you for your comment! I love bugs, so I came up with this idea :>

Congrats! I liked the idea of the game and I can see it can have huge potential if you iterate on it :D I liked the story behind it, overall it was fun to play ! I wonder how it could be controlling more ants haha

Developer

YES! I really had planned to be able to control more ants, but due to several bugs and limited time I had to scrap the idea. But I plan to work on an update to add everything that was planned and discarded during the jam. Thanks for that :>

i really loved the music: gave that crawly feeling with the buggos - love it! it was also very easy to distinguish which character you were with the glowing butts: very nice touch! i did have to lower the volume for the 'GET OLIVE' jingle bc it was too high pitched for me, but other than that and a little lag when platforms appeared, i loved this game!!

the animations, esp the intro, were very, very impressive!! i was delighted to see the little animations in-between puzzles. awesome job!!!

Developer(+1)

I'm very happy that you liked the music and the animations.

The 'GET OLIVE' sound was really loud, I did it at dawn and ended up noticing it only when I had launched the game, when the jam is finished I will update as soon as possible.

The graphics were honestly lackluster, but this game was awesome! Consistent implementation of new mechanics, a weird but somehow related to the gameplay story, and even a boss fight! If... you could call it that. A few sections were tough but fair and although its presented a little abstractly, I like it a lot!

Developer

Thanks for the review!

About the graphics, I didn't have time to polish,

all that is present in the game is a placeholder that has not changed.

The battle was done on the last day, I almost gave up putting it, that's why it was so disgusting to play.

I'm glad you liked the mechanics, it was what caused me the most bugs, I think it was worth the time spent.

Submitted(+1)

It quite literally caused bugs... as bugs! But this was a fun time.

Submitted(+1)

It was an exciting stoy!

Developer

Thanks  :>
