Well, the stars are a bit low, but I see the potential in the game's ugliness, earthbound(mother)-like.
The balance is FF1 awful, and level design could be not so time-agnostic (aka old). Looking through your other projects, I see the talent, raw, but the talent. Although you are not there yet, I hope you will become a cool game designer, eventually!
Thanks for the feedback. Do you have any suggestions for improving the level design?
I think, polishing is not much important in 8-bit systems games, rather the level feel (think pokemon ruby puddles with the sky and clouds reflecting), and d-pad fighting even on new gamepads. I'd do a lot of rpgmaker maps to toss them out in school, and it is really helping me now
The fast battle system makes it super fun from the get-go. Multiple starting characters are a great motivation to start a new playthrough several times.

Great game. The battle system feels really fast. I love how quickly you can spam attacks once you have applied all relevant debuffs and statuses to a boss. Also small details like the system remembering the player's last input are very thought out. Unlocking new characters is a great bonus.
What a nervous adventure! But it's a nice change :D . We can clearly see your inspirations, but it's well done, both in terms of graphics and music, bravo!
Very fun game, I'm not really into rpg, but it looks like it's going to be something really fun when it's complete.
I had some bugs related to changing the scenery, and the third boss was much stronger than the others, but apart from that it's a very interesting game.
I had never thought of a Zatch Bell style rpg, I hope it ends.
Definitely enjoyed this one!
The speed of the player and battle mechanics felt really nice and all of the sprites were super cute or derpy! XD
I also experienced the out-of-bounds glitch after totally SLAYING with Tad XD but it was right at the end of a very enjoyable playthrough!
*And I'm not sure if it was a glitch or intentional, but I didn't encounter any enemies in the 3rd level.
Regardless of those, really great entry!
Will play again as other characters after the jam!
Thanks for the kind words! Btw, that no enemies glitch is actually because I uploaded an older build that predates the addition of the world 3 enemies. As it turns out, I accidentally only uploaded the final build in web embedded format. Once the voting period ends, I plan to replace the downloadable .gb file with the final build.
Aha! I look forward to it!
LOVE being able to run fast in a top down game! The music is great. The RPG fight mechanics are very clean!
Thanks! I actually think the walk speed might be a bit too fast, but I'd much rather err on the side of being too fast than too slow.
Although it didn't fit super tightly into the theme, the presentation of the game and the wide array of options for spells and whatnot was nice to have! I also liked that it seemed some enemies have weaknesses and strengths? Nice!
Yep, some enemies have weaknesses, but I didn't get around to coding in strengths/resistances. That'll have to wait for a future build if I ever end up developing the game further. Thanks for playing and reviewing.
Impressive game! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks!
I love DQ and i love Zatch Bell (GOT 'IM), so this game really hit it for me!! I loved every bit of it, and Tad is my absolute favorite!!! i played the web version and found myself getting stuck out of bounds in World 3? but i refreshed and played again: wonderful job on the game!!!
Thanks! I was hoping that there would be at least one other person with the right combination of interests to enjoy the game lol. Btw, that out of bounds problem is a known glitch that I didn't have time to fix. If you immediately walk backwards after entering a room, you can get stuck out of bounds. But thanks for reporting it anyway. It's always nice to be made aware of things that need improving. And thanks again for playing and liking the game.
absolutely: very nostalgic and im glad to see you also have fine taste!! (oops sorry for multiple reporting! but no worries!!!!)
no problemo: it was a treat to play!! i will follow you, so if you ever update this game, i'd be overjoyed to play it!
This was an impressive feat to accomplish in the time that was given for the jam! I, personally, had a ton of fun running around and defeating enemies. It reminded me of the good ol' days with FFL. 😍
Thanks. I'll credit LuckyCassette as being a large contributor to that FFL feeling. Those enemy sprites really give off the FFL vibe. That's partly why I chose to use them.

nice sprites
Thanks man. Likewise for your next game.
Good one! Liked the random Boss mechanic
Thanks! I figured it would add to the replayability.
Interesting and fun. Runs very smoothly and have enough replayability to get You engaged for hours. This Game really needs an intro telling us the background story
I liked it
Thanks for the kind words. But yeah, I definitely agree with you about the intro. I probably should have prioritized that a bit more.
I think an intro take so much time and work for a jam, time was not enough for that if you work solo. But it could be great if You add it later on.
