It's a great game. Good mood and beautiful graphics.

What I liked best was the good level design and the gameplay.

What I didn't like so much was the different fonts and that the graphics partly jumped during movements, especially visible at the background.

But these are only very small negative points, on the whole you made a really good game. The start for something big...

Really tight jumping, although sometimes feels like it's meant to use jump buffer to make to the other side.

NIce platform game! I love the soundtrack!

Very good game, and damn this music stay in my head ^^.

Can't get past the boss  (don't even know how to damage it) but I guess it is normal, a boss should be hard.

Loved the art, very impressive! Not much else to say that hasn't already been said - great game!

There's not much more to say about this. I've been following your progress on r/godot as well. Just an impressive entry all around. Rated.

Well damn! As usual, your pixel art is super well done and refined, and all the animations feel crisp. You've got the platforming mechanics and rhythm down perfect. The mechanics/physics felt just right - clearly carefully calculated in terms of spacing of platforms so as not to make it too easy or hard. I was using a keyboard to play - was a little awkward at first but after a few minutes felt totally natural. The wall hug/drag feature was nicely done, and i totally see how it enables smoother backtracking through levels, although the most absolutely fun thing for me was chaining together several enemy kills with the slow-motion attack to achieve some big jump that i couldn't get to otherwise. That feature felt super smooth and satisfying. Minor criticism: the "continue" feature doesn't seem to be working on the macosx build - if i close the application, it only allows me to start over. haven't gotten through to the 3rd crystal yet, but i'll send more notes then! amazing job!

Nice Game! Very nice gameplay and story <3! Just to repetitive music for me ^^ (just saying ^^)

Very impressive game, really puts the one short level in our game to shame... Though i can't access the lava world. I got the other two crystals but I cant get past the block in front of the lava world. If I spam jump against it I can move it a bit.

Haven't gotten to the boss yet but I'll be very surprised if this doesn't win

Thanks for trying the game! Most appreciated. Maybe the entrance to the caves is elsewhere. Check the map.

Yeah now I got to the end. Turns out I was just blind. I'm super impressed though. How did you have time to make all of this?

Awesome art! Looks super great!

Really cool presentation, looks and sounds fantastic. The scarf animation is just so smooth. My main gripe with the game is that the platforming is really clunky. The character in the very beginning can hardly move without the attack ability, which I think could be fine. The attack mechanic feels incredibly good and really made the platforming way more fun. Without it, even with the wall grab and double jump, the movement felt really sluggish. Which was why the boss was easily my least favorite part of the game. It relied entirely on the core platforming, requiring the player to only ever attack as a means of damaging the boss and not for platforming. Which really made it far more one-note and frustrating than it could have been. Overall though, it's a great game, especially for a month! I'm really intrigued to see your future work!

Thanks for trying the game! I appreciate all the comments! Also, did you manage to beat the boss without slowing down time? If so... That was impressive!

Submitted(+1)

I actually did! I wasn't even aware that slowing down time would have any tangible benefits to platforming.. oops.

To start this review, I should say that this is an extremely polished game for this jam and I have played through the entire game. That being said, I'm very conflicted about aspects of the final product.

The good:
- Art: Very nice art and animations for the jam. There could be a few things done to make things read a bit better (Specifically the checkpoints), but these are minor and could be fixed easily, and aren't much of an issue once you've gotten through a bit of the game
- Game feel/juice: Of jam games I've played this has to have some of the most game feel aspects I've seen.
- Movement (generally): The inclusion of things like coyote time among some other things make the game feel good to control. There are a few instances where the input must be incredibly precise (specifically the wall jumping chasm with spikes) which felt frustrating to do and fail multiple times simply because of the way the movement controls worked.

The bad:
- Keyboard controls: I know that this was made for a game controller, however simply changing the attack button to something like shift would have made this much easier to play. It just now dawned on me that I could use J with my second hand, however having a system that uses your mouse to aim would have made this much more intuitive to players that don't have game pads.
- Difficulty spikes: To start this off, I want to be clear I don't have an issue with difficulty in games. The problem I see plaguing this game which makes me so conflicted is the sudden difficulty spikes. This is something that could be improved with more playtesting, so I don't blame you for this issue, but it is definitely worth bringing up. 90% of the game is relatively easy and precision isn't necessary, however every once in a while there will come something in your path that is entirely about precision. The worst contender of this is the boss fight. Even once you know *how* to beat the boss and avoid his attacks, it is simply brutal actually doing it since almost every single moment requires medium to very high precision, and you can only make 2 mistakes (and only 1 if you touch the lava). This ended up making the boss fight take as much time as the rest of the game, and when I finally beat it, I didn't feel satisfaction, just relief that I wouldn't have to do it again. The biggest problem with the boss is that none of the rest of the game is very similar at all to it, and suddenly you're thrust into it *and* you have to be incredibly precise in your execution.

This all said, if you're a fan of platforming games like Celeste or Ori I'd definitely recommend playing through the game. My favorite part of the game was the descent from the mountain (this is a part I wished was actually harder). My main suggestion for the boss fight would honestly be to make it mobile and better make it known where the player is supposed to go (The boss fights in Celeste are a great example of this)Even though my gripes with the game probably sound like they overshadow the enjoyment I had, I do think this is in general a very well put together game. 4/5

Wow, what a beautiful game, I thought all the sections felt really good and unique and I loved the bounce mechanic (although kinda felt weird when you missed and had to wait for enemies to respawn in the first section). Got to the final boss and got kinda frustrated because I was only ever able to hit him once, is there something I'm maybe missing? Regardless, this is an excellent entry and I had a ton of fun playing ;]

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying the game... If only you had a bullet time mechanic to slow down time and kick the boss-butt :)

A very clean and polished feeling game. The graphics are immersive and visually cohesive. The controls are smooth, well done!

I'm stuck after the second crystal. By the way, the game, it's graphycs and music are great. The movement is smooth and satisfactory.

Developer

Stuck? Game-wise or bug-wise?

Amazing game! This game oozes with charm and the main mechanic is so fun to massacre enemies with! You could easily expand this into a full game and I would play the heck out of it!
