Hallo,

Thank you for sharing your game. I’ve already saved its RATING;

1. verified: GAME due to observed in SUBMISSIONS List with keyphrase: Linux; notes: GAME to be also PLAYABLE on Windows, macOS Operating Systems; observed: GAMEPLAY to appear to be as that of Lemmings (PC); observed: self to continued viewing the remaining GAMES in SUBMISSIONS LIST, albeit quickly returned to PLAY to verify the GAMEPLAY

2. observed: noticeable background music and sound effects to exist;

3. observed: drawing and animation techniques to exist

4. verified: GAMEPLAY to be of notifying CATS of select COMMANDS to reach the target destination, where: COMMANDS include among others: dig down, cause the movement direction of the incoming CATS to be its opposite

5. observed: RETRY button appeared to be NOT quickly available, albeit after reading FEEDBACK List, SPACEBAR can be used for the ACTION;

6. observed: self to incorrectly use the balloon DOWN command, instead of the dig DOWN command due to both have DOWN arrows as the button image;

7. reached: Stage 3, albeit paused due to observed noticeable TIME shall be used to wait for the CATS to walk to the target destination; adds: appeared to be the last stage due to all the buttons shall already be used; prefers: a list of total stages that can be quickly selected for those who rest after 5~10mins of GAMEPLAY

Thank you. Health!

I love the aesthetic of your game! Also love the added touch of meowing when clicking the title on the main menu, as well as the cats themselves :3. The gameplay loop reminds of an old browser game that applied the same concept to a colony of ants (I think they were ants? It's been a while). It would've been nice if there was an indicator for both selecting a cat and seeing if a cat has an ability. Additionally, I found the cats' movement to be somewhat slow. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the levels and it was a really fun experience!

Reminded me this game https://teambeanloop.itch.io/six-cats-under

Ability to restart the level would be pretty useful.

Developer

There is! You can press Space to pull up the pause menu, which has 'Retry' as an option. Thanks for playing!

Cool idea!

The cats are cute and well drawn. The game is also fun!

A button to speed up the cats would be great so that you don't have to wait if the cats are too far from the bag.

Also a tooltip for the different actions would be nice to have so that the user doesn't get confused.

Overall you did a great job!

Definitely makes me think Lemmings needs more reskins like this with adorable creatures — the little kitties are so cute, especially in their balloon fall animation. Lovely work there! Previous commenters have touched on my own notes about the icons not always clear and needing a fast forward.

The curiosity killed the cat! Or made it make a meow sound and disappear from the screen. Something like that.

I totally enjoyed this game!

I haven’t played Lemmings, so this was a first game of this kind that I managed to try out.

I recorded a video of me playing the game: https://youtu.be/qOlkCP2YupM

(Sorry for the voice sound quality, I’m not a professional.)

Some of my random thoughts on this game:

  • The Windows-only distribution is labeled as cross-platform (windows+macos+linux). Please update downloadable archive metadata to make it more precise. :)

  • I failed to finish the second level using the Linux+Wine setup, so I had to retry in the browser. This issue is recorded in the video. All the cats entered the bag, but the game didn’t register that as a victory.

  • At some point, I pressed the pause button and all cats started to fall. It’s also captured in the video. :D

  • You may want to add an Escape button alias for the Space, just to make it more user-friendly. I read the game controls, but I didn’t know that space=pause also implies that menu (restart) is also connected to that button.

  • The music is really catchy! I almost felt like singing along. I tried to make the cats purr to the melody with some limited success.

  • The fast-forward button would be very useful. Although this game is not tedious with 3 levels, it can get annoying with more levels if you ever feel like expanding it.

  • It’s funny that you can build something while in the mid-air. I captured it on the video too. :D I don’t think it’s a major thing, but it’s hilarious.

  • I’m not sure if I was on the right track on the second level. Is there a way to drop down 2 cats from the cliff? It was so tempting. :D

  • There is a slight delay in the purring sounds. Maybe there is a silence sequence in the beginning of the sound effect that can be removed (like 0.2 opening silence that can be truncated).

  • Since this game is built using Unity, please consider uploading a native Linux executable. It could make the Linux gamers life easier.

  • A cat counter would be useful. So the player knows how many cats they can leave behind along the way. :D

  • I adore the art style of the game.

  • The collision detection on the levels seem to be good too!

  • I believe it’s possible to accidentally insta-equip the powerup on the cat if you select it from the UI. I did it once and it lead me to a state I didn’t want to be. :D It was funny though.

  • Some of the icons are not as obvious as they could be. A balloon for the falling protection could be more understandable I think. As others pointed out, the tooltips could help here greatly. But it’s OK to omit them in the game jam submission I think.

Thank you so much for the thorough feedback!!

cats are so cute!!!

Love the idea of this game and the art style for the cats and the animations are really cute. I think a few comments hit on this already, but the actions bar on the left is unclear. It's hard to distinguish at first glance what powerups are available and what they do.  Adding hover states and some tooltips would help. Keep making games!

Agree with failcake. Could be fun but needs tooltips and speedup button.

It was fun playing it, wish there was a fast-forwarding button and some tooltips on the icons, but overall its good fun :D

Developer

I agree, adding a fast-forward button was one of our optional goals but we ran out of time :(  If we every expanded the game I will definitely implement various speeds! Thank you for playing! :)

I love cats so I loved this game haha. First impression was good and the custom mouse it's so cutee! I didn't understood at all how the cats were supposed to go to the "home" but was quite fun to play it ^^

I was the UI programmer and I really love how the mouse came out, as well! One of our optional goals was to include a tutorial, but we ran out of time. The game is based on "powerups" that you have on the left side, and you can give them to cats by selecting a button and then clicking on a cat. The levels use different powerups to allow the cats to get to the goal! I'll add that info under the description of the game so that other folks can also understand, haha.

Loved this game! It captures how it feels to relax with a cat. And it was very fun to figure out the third level :D

Thank you so much for playing! :)
