Game description
Discover the secrers of the Christmas Wand

Theme interpretation
The Christmas Wand has a lot of secrets, and it can do a lot, for example spawn snow, heal someone or deal a lot of damage (didn't have time), and it can also be used with bad intentions, for example to increase the range of the dark magic and take over the world. It contains the power of a blizzard, a combination of snow and wind, the water and air elements.

Great entry with a lot of personality!

I'm surprised how few christmas-themed games there were in this jam given the time of year, but this one is all christmas all the time which is great :) I love the animatics when the mage is telling their story, and the whole yeti backstory was very intriguing to me. The environments are very charming as well.

I think my main bit of constructive feedback would be that it would be great if the player moved faster! It takes a while to get across the screen a lot of the time which can be a bit tedious sometimes.

Great job guys, I can see from what you've said in other comments and the game's description that you're looking to expand this one farther which I really encourage you to do as I'd love to see it expanded. Well done!

A cool game! Is it possible to use the mouse to play this game? Nice use of lighting and particle effects. I got stuck at the ice block level.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I decided not to add mouse support because usually RPGs don't have it, also, in my opinion, it's more comfortable to play the game using only a keyboard. Could you explain more how did you get stuck? If it has something to do with the physics, you can press R to restart the level. The first pair of puzzles was supposed to be completed with snow blocks and the second one with ice blocks, but I didn't have enough time left to introduce the spells to the player.

Makes sense! I didn't know how to create a snow block (I tried to open the menu but the option was disabled).

I got to the yellow blocks and tripwire but nothing happened, couldn't figure out what to do. Pressing z brought up a menu saying 'snow block' and 'ice block' but neither of them did anything.

I liked the narrative setup, but wish the character moved faster, or that you don't need to backtrack to find things before being allowed out of the exit. Either need fast walking, or zero backtracking I feel.

Yeah, I should have explained how the puzzles work better, Miro told me how to improve this. The character "looks" in the direction he goes in, the first yellow block his vision meets is the place where he can spawn snow or ice blocks. Ice blocks themselves move in the direction they were pushed until they meet an obstacle, while snow blocks are just being pushed by Mage.

Intriguing graphics for a special video game : it's cool!

Hey great game! Here were some thoughts as I played:

  • Pixel art was amazing, gives a Undertale vibe!
  • In the main menu scene, it may be beneficial to fade in from black after your title animation, the contrast is a bit drastic as it swaps screens.
  • Your perspective shadowing was spot on, but some of the cinematic art pieces felt a little blurry and hard to interpret.
  • When it came to the battle scene, I wasn't able to control what the player does. Other than selecting what was already selected.

Overall it has the potential to be a great game! Keep working on it, I'd love to see what improvements you make.

Enjoyable and very cute! The art in the story based scenes was very good. The combat set up was a bit iffy in terms of placement and description of events. My only real gripe is poor Jethro was so much slower than me he had trouble keeping up lol
