Cute game reminds me a lot of super meat boy. Echolocation was cool though I kind of wish it was used slightly more, not sure how though. The art style is delightful kind of reminds me of some kind of 90s cartoon like Ren and Stimpy. The sound was good, meaty and responsive. The platforming was pretty good. It looks like in your web build you fixed most of the things I'd complain about (too zoomed out, a couple really tight jumps etc, though you can't get to the boss in the web build). My only major complaint is that if you have your joystick down at all you'll go through a platform which killed me more than a few times also a couple of the platform colliders were a bit slippery which lead me falling off. I didn't beat the game, the boss was too hard, but that was my weakness. Also some music would be nice. But overall, a lovely, polished, great feeling game!
thanks for playing! You mentioned you couldn't reach the boss level? What exactly stopped you, I was able to get through in mine so it'd be a great help to know more!
On the web build only, when I got to the boss room the camera wouldn't track me. Maybe it was a one off?
awesome, ill take a look and see if I can replicate.
The thought of painting the guidance on walls is really amazing! I love the art style and your level design. The VFX is also really cool! Love this game!
Really loved this idea for secrets. II had a really hard time with the controls (keyboard), but I could just be bad lol. Loved the art style, good work!
I liked the visuals, The wizard seems like a pretty cool guy. The final boss was a little brutal for me lol Good job!
Really cool platformer with solid visuals! I also really enjoyed the gameplay and the pulse mechanic. Great game!
Amazing work good job!
I really enjoyed this game -- everything from the art style, the gameplay, to the boss fight! Loved the unique take on hidden elements revealed through echolocation. The choice of colour for the hidden elements was well-selected, making their discovery very satisfying! The boss was also very well-designed, with a very interesting move set. All in all, excellent game and hoping to see more of it!
Thanks for playing! I'm hoping to continue working on it to make it a full fledge game in the future!
Great submission! The art was clean and pleasing to the eye, reminded me of World Of Goo, and the use of light motes greatly added to the atmosphere. Very good sound design too!
It was pretty clear where to go or what to do, and the platforming wasn't very hard. Copious amount of checkpoints was good, didn't let it get tedious. There were 2 confusing moments for me: in first room, the spikes look like visual effect of echo instead of danger, so it took a few deaths to understand what's going on, and in the long jump tutorial room, there is a mote of light hanging in the center of the screen that doesn't move and hence looks like an unreachable collectable.
Only major downside is that I experienced an input bug where the game would "stick" to the last direction key pressed (e.g. I die while holding D, then release it before respawning -> the character will endlessly run right on respawn instead of standing still; I do a walljump while holding D, then release it -> the character will fly right after ending the walljump), that was very annoying. Also, defeating wizard doesn't count as defeating an enemy, sadge.
Hey thanks for playing! I recently found that bug where when you die the character will keep running, but I didn't know it went all the way back to that build! Thanks for the great feedback, as I've been looking for more people to play to find more annoying bugs or advice about how the game is played. I have a ton of fixes and updates to the game I just haven't uploaded them since the gamejam is ongoing and I assume it's against the rules of fair play to update while the voting process is still going. Glad to hear the boss isn't totally unattainable haha, I was worried most would give up before reaching him.
Very solid entry, I liked what you did with the audio and the graphics. They work very well together to create that cartoon spooky ambiance. Great job!
I loved this game! The artstyle was very polished, and you did a really good job at creating a spooky atmosphere with the sound effects and art. Your game's main mechanic of discovering traps and secrets was really unique, and tied in really well with the theme! My only suggestion would be to add even MORE secrets and secret traps, and finding more ways to integrate them with the gameplay and platforming. Also, you're the first game in this competition I've seen that uses only four colors in a way other than pixel art, so way to go on that! All in all, great, polished game!
Thank you! I definitely want to brainstorm some more ideas on how to add more secrets, so definitely in the future!
Game is quite polished and fun. The aesthetics are pretty good imo, really liked playing it. It was frustrating at times and I couldnt get all 3 keys TvT, after trying for like 15 mins on key 2 I gave up. Might revisit the game to complete it tho cause i wanna see how it ends. Overall a solid 7/10 imo.
thank you for playing! Just so I can try to make it better, where exactly on level 2 did you find it frustrating?
I legit couldn't get to the key consistently and when I did get to it, a door was in the way and I couldn't figure out how to unlock it
Sorry to hear you had trouble. If your talking about the first key, don't forget to use your pulse ability, as it'll help you find hidden things that could help you reach it. The doors are often openable through switches in the level. I think if I continue to work on the project I'll make it a little more accessible and less devastating for the player if they fall.
This is so fun! The polish is really impressive, I love the unique mechanics, the aesthetics are super cute. Really awesome game! I did get a bit confused with the gears, it seems like sometimes they are friend, sometimes they are foe, and sometimes they are just background, and it's not always clear which. I also couldn't get 3 keys, I kept falling and having to restart rooms and gave up eventually, but I'm keeping it downloaded and might go back and try again to see the ending.
Hey thanks for playing! Sorry to hear it was a little confusing. My initial thought was to make the gears that kill you a lighter color than the background ones to have them stand out, but I think it might be better to have them be pingable and change their color to determine if they're bad. If you have any ideas on how you might make the platforming a bit more bearable feel free to let me know!
