Nice concept, a tutorial would have been nice
Do rate my game as well.

Hi, I'm not sure if intended, but every time I open the game it goes straight to chapter 10, giving me fully upgraded characters :-P
Shouldn't the game start at chapter 1 and let you build your characters gradually? Or maybe I'm just missing some sort of "time"-joke here :D
anyways, the turn-based gameplay seems to work as it should, so good job with that :)

Yeah, so it looks like I needed to spend more time adding more explanations about that in the game. But yes, it is intentional, the game basically alternates between 2 timelines, one starting from the last chapter moving backwards, and the other starting from the first chapter moving forward. Eventually the end of the game is actually the middle of the storyline.

I felt the need to experiment with the idea that maybe the middle of the storyline is actually the hardest part in RPGs, since you are not as maxed out towards the end of the game.

But apparently I need to work more on presentation. Thanks for playing and for the valuable feedback!

Oh I see. That's a bold strategy :D

But a pretty interesting experiment! I could imagine it's quite the challenge to make a game like that :)

Hi! I also made a tactical turn based combat game. While doing it I find it difficult to promote using different gameplay strategies.

As a player, I felt the same thing with your game. I was always using the same skills because I saw it worked well. I don't have the solution for that kind of problems, just wanted to put that out.

Other than that I liked it. Some things were mysterious. (Why did my swordman lost his frenzy ability? Why is he completely useless against Yggdrasil? What are those ultimate skills?) But nice execution.

Good job overall!

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the strategy portion is always a hard thing to tune. Especially with a limited time frame, like a gamejam environment. I think it may need more practice to get a better feel of balancing.

Regarding some explanation of why you are losing abilities - the game is essentially an RPG played out-of-order in terms of storyline. As a result, you gain upgrades when the storyline time moves forward, but you are essentially losing upgrades when the story progresses backwards. (Like, if you choose to upgrade X ability in chapter 9, you no longer will have that ability for the previous chapters)

Obviously, I need to work on a bit more on explaining it better in the game though.

I liked the idea, remember me the old times haha. The animations were very good. But there could be an intro/tutorial,  I was completely lost at the start hahah,

I got pretty confused when I first fought the last boss. I thought it was a bug. The non-linear timeline concept is pretty cool, but the story seems very cliché. I'm a sucker for turn based strategy battles, so I liked it, but sometimes, it feels like the move doesn't do what it was supposed. The game can use some polish, like have different battle music.

I truly enjoyed this game!!

I liked the idea of changing timeline and that you could choose the power ups, although didn't first really understand how it worked and I chose assassin then swordsman and then when it jumped to chapter 2 I chose the power up for swordsman and I didn't have the swordsman anymore :D So if I got it right, it works timeline wise.

But nevertheless really good game!
