How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
I followed the 4 colors rule, and I integrated the horror theme by making a parody of Five Nights at Freddy's.

I did follow the 160x144 rule, and all the art and all the important assets are within that view, but my pixel camera isn't working in the build version. Besides the pixel camera script not working, everything else follows the 160x144 rule

The controls follow the d-pad and A/B rule. You have wasd for d-pad, and A/B are O and P.

All assets were made during this jam, including all art, music, font, etc.
And of course no AI was used.

I beat it on my 3rd attempt! It was really fun, reversing the mechanics to try to lure them to your office was interesting. And the punch out fights were fun too. Bonus points for the nose easter eggs. One of my favourites so far!

omg tysm im really glad you liked it!! :D

I would've love playing this game since I can see what it was pointing towards but the mechanics underneath are a bit broken in my humble opinion. The alarm goes automatically on and the time passes without much to do but wait... Maybe I got it wrong, in which case a simpler instructions (less stylish and straight to the point) would've been of great aid. Nevertheless, sfx are good, art is curated and even if I'm not american I can see that you got a creepy enough theme hahaha.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm sorry you had problems with it!

I uploaded a playthrough video on the game's page if you want to see what it looks like / how the mechanics work.

Thank you for playing!

I enjoyed this game! I was able to fight a bunch of them by repeatedly tapping on the map wherever they were until they started moving closer, and turning off the alarm in the room whenever it blared. Playing like that to lure the Flippies in for fights really felt like the reverse of Five Nights at Freddy's where instead of multitasking to avoid the animatronics, I was multitasking to lure as many of them in to fight haha

I really liked the sound design and the graphics! And the fight was fun! Good work!

Developer

Ahh thank you so much, I'm glad to hear that!!!

I feel I would have really enjoyed this one, but I wasn't able to get them to come to me.  As a fan of the FNAF franchise myself I must say the concept is unique.  Nice touch letting you boop the poster nose : )

I've been replying to people who are having trouble with the animatronics not moving with this, in case you wanted to try again:

The movement of the monsters is giving lots of people problems 😅
It fully works, its just really confusing. If the alarm is on they automatically will run as far away from the office as they can. When its off, you have to tap (which "scares them") in the opposite direction you want them to go, and every few seconds they'll move. So, if the alarm is off, and they are all at the top of the screen, if you tap at the very top above their rooms and everything, they should go down!

But no worries either way, I'm really glad you liked it! :D

Hey, I beat the game twice without having to deal with monsters once. They stay at the top and don't move. Is this normal?

The controls in this feel really nice and the art is pretty good too, everything is here but I just can't get these goobers to come and fight me. I read the comments and it seems like it's a bit of a problem but yeah I just couldn't get these fellas to square up so I kinda just beat the game in the most boring way possible. now this doesn't make it bad, again all of the art, audio and controls. Look, sound and feel great it's just I'm missing out on the main thing and I'm sad because I wanna throw down with some robots. Good work just think the movement system could be improved

Never mind I got the fight working, spoke to soon I guess. I still think it's kinda annoying to get to that point but the whole fighting thing is funny so it's not so bad

Developer(+1)

😭yeah im sorry its so janky but im happy you were able to get to the fight!

The interaction system on the screen feels really good, moving around my cursor and being able to press things are set up very nicely.  The overall game feels confusing to me, I played through it a few times and could only get the characters to move from their room once or twice.  I tried doing nothing, I tried always turning off the radio, I tried playing sounds in their rooms, I tried playing sounds in other rooms, but no matter what they seemed stuck to where they were.  I'd love to see this game after some functionality fixes, I think the UI feels great! Hi thank you for the kind words!

Yeah I've heard the movement giving people problems 😅
It fully works for everyone I've had playtest, its just really confusing.

I totally get how you can have problems with that tho that's super fair, but im glad you liked the other parts!

This game is everything I've come to expect from a FNAF-like game at this point. Photorealistic graphics (or as photorealistic as you can make them on a Gameboy), creepy, ambient music broken up by creepier sound effects, and all the mechanics of the original games, plus a couple new ones wrapped up in a neat package! The only issue is that the animatronics tend to stay in the same spot for every night after the first one the player starts up, regardless of whether the alarm is going off. Maybe they're just shy and don't like familiar faces? Despite this, great work! :)

Ahhh thank you so much for all the kind words, I really appreciate it!!
