For the music, we had an invisible object that played the initial background music, then swapped music routines as the timer started to drain. We would then switch to the tense music when the timer ran out and the ghost started chasing the player. As for the lightning, we simply swapped between two different background color palettes of varying brightness every few seconds using GB Studio's Color mode. With that said, I'm glad you enjoyed the experience! Thanks for the feedback! :)

Thanks for the feedback! If I come back to this later, I can try spacing out the keys so they don't act in such a weird way. :)

Yeah, the keypad puzzle is kinda weird. I think if I spaced out the buttons better, it would work as I intended. Still, thanks for the feedback! :)

FYI, there are story spoilers in this review for anyone that still wants to play, so to those people, avert your eyes and look somewhere else! Anyways...

At first, this doesn't feel spooky at all, aside from a single cutscene near the beginning of the game. The first parts felt like a cute, innocent enough platformer where you shoot enemies and take down the boss that steals your food at the beginning of the game. Once you defeat the boss, THAT's where the interpretation of "spooky" comes into play. You got what you came for, but as you look all around, there are stains of blood in spots where you killed the enemies. Night falls, You yourself are stained with the blood of your enemies. The whole vibe leaves you questioning whether killing the boss for some food was worth all the bloodshed! Then, there's the ending. The ending is so spooky, that I can't bring myself to mention it here. It's a solid game with solid graphics, solid music, and the soul of a Wario Land-style platformer! Outstanding work! :)

Not bad. I like the art for the backgrounds well enough, and it feels like something you'd play on a Gameboy. The twist ending also threw me for a loop, and I'd say it was the best part of this whole experience! However, the gameplay leaves a little bit to be desired, and there were no sounds or music. I'd say for your next iteration of this type of game, maybe add a few puzzle elements in place of some of the fetch quests and maybe add some audio to break the silence. As it is, it's an okay experience. :)

I loved this game! The concept is pretty charming, the graphics were amazing, the music was well-put together, and overall, there's something about it that compels me to progress and play more of it! I even tried to defeat the final boss a couple of times, but ended up failing, and both of those failures felt like it was because I hadn't gotten strong enough yet. I was also hooked in with the introductory cutscene where I was supposed to scare the dad, and because that was the only bit of dialogue required to progress the game, I felt more like the game wanted to speak for itself, rather than hold my hand the whole way through. The many different types of enemies also add to this game's charm and I love it! Fantastic work! :)

I liked this game! The movement and gameplay remind me of Fire Emblem but if the combat happened on the overworld instead of in a cutscene and that you only play as one character instead of a team. The mechanics took some getting used to, but once I did, I had a fun time slashing enemies and collecting their heads as a bounty. The only significant place where it loses points is the audio, or lack thereof. I feel like this game could be so much better with good music and sound design. Still, it was a pretty enjoyable experience! Great job! :)

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Not bad. I don't really know why, but the idea of the player health being interpreted by how happy/depressed they are is pretty funny to me! Besides that, the soundtrack is pretty decent and it definitely sells the 'spooky' theme. Well done! :)

For being made on a modern engine, this game feels so much like a Gameboy title, I could have confused it for a Gameboy game under the right circumstances! The graphics and audio supplement that feel really nicely, and the gameplay feels smooth and flows well! As far as aesthetic, this feels more upbeat and charming than spooky, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since I tend to prefer games with an upbeat tone personally, but since 'spooky' is the secondary theme, it looses points as far as interpretation. Still, I'd love to see this game fleshed out a bit more and including the cut content! It sounds like that would be a fun time! :)

Nice work! This game does an outstanding job capturing the "feel" of a Gameboy game, and the graphics are pretty pleasing to look at, especially when it comes to the dialogue scenes. I just wish there were more patients to work on, because a JRPG set in a hospital with a surgeon as the main character is an interesting concept to me! Sadly, I couldn't rate the music and SFX because there weren't any in this game (at least from my experience).

Thanks for the link! I'll give it a listen when I get the chance.

This game is everything I've come to expect from a FNAF-like game at this point. Photorealistic graphics (or as photorealistic as you can make them on a Gameboy), creepy, ambient music broken up by creepier sound effects, and all the mechanics of the original games, plus a couple new ones wrapped up in a neat package! The only issue is that the animatronics tend to stay in the same spot for every night after the first one the player starts up, regardless of whether the alarm is going off. Maybe they're just shy and don't like familiar faces? Despite this, great work! :)

Well, the idea is certainly there. It has the potential to become something greater than it is. All it needs is more time in the oven. Perhaps you can take what you learned from this experience and apply it to your future games. :)

In terms of graphics, this feels more like an Atari game than a gameboy game, and the gameplay serves its purpose. However, where this game lacks in visual quality, it makes up for in atmosphere. Playing this game, I was on the edge of my seat once the monster showed up, and the music only served to add to that already building tension! Well done overall!

Outstanding! I was having a ton of fun with this game, even compared to some popular Indie games out there! The story hooked me in and it was pretty difficult to put down once i got going! The ghosts created a lot of tension, the levels were well-structured, and the headlamp going out provided a pretty good incentive to explore the tunnels and search for batteries! If this were my game, I'd flesh it out and put it on Steam! :)

Two different gameplay modes is something I don't see very much of in a game jam entry, so props for pulling it off! I love the art style you went with, it really sells the 'spooky' theme. My only complaint is that there's no in-game music, even for the title screen. Otherwise, it's a pretty solid entry all around! :)

Thanks! The way the password puzzle works is kinda weird, but I'll be sure to space out the buttons a bit more in a future update! :)

Cool! Are you @amio on Discord?

Hey everyone! Right now, I have a team of two people including myself. I'm the main programmer and can do some pixel art, but I need at least one more artist before my team and I can tackle this jam. Feel free to DM me on Discord @BeegYoshi979 if you're interested in teaming up! We're using GB Studio for this jam as well. I look forward to working with you and expanding our network! :)

Thanks for the feedback, Jaxah! Those games were a huge inspiration when coming up with the game's design, and one of the bosses was even inspired by another Breakout clone, Blasterball! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

This one's a neat little entry. I like the message behind it and the main character's kinda cute. Good job. :)

Good game. The music was honestly my favorite part of the whole experience! For a game like this, it hits HARD! Besides that, the gameplay was pretty enjoyable. :)

Amazing game! It's well polished, the music fits the pirate aesthetic, and I love that your implementation of cursed items makes the game progressively more and more challenging! The NPC pirate is a pretty nice touch too! Well done! :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience! :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll be sure to optimize the next games I make. :)

Thank you for the feedback! I'll be sure to consider optimization for my future titles. :)

Thanks for the feedback, Jeggy! Glad you enjoyed the game! :)

Nice job! I love the concept you have! It's the one that best fits the theme, in my opinion! Controlling two players at once can be a bit confusing sometimes, but the game is pretty fun nonetheless!

I like the parry system. However, for the next game jam, may I suggest adding some more art and maybe some music/sounds for extra personality? Still, good job!

This game's amazing! I love the parry system, the art, and the music! It's all well-put together for a game made in 10 days! Great job! :D

I can't seem to run your game. What program do I need to run your .capx file

Thanks for the feedback, Endoblance! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Fantastic game! I like your take on the score system and the visuals are pretty stunning! The audio could be better, but everything else is well done!

Cool remake! I like the concept and the mini story is a nice touch! :)

Hi, everyone! I hope you all are doing well on this fine day. I am looking for people to help me make a game for this game jam. I am mainly looking for artists and sound designers, but I will accept any kind of help you can bring to the table. I have experience developing games in Unity and C#, but if necessary, I also have minor experience developing small games with Unreal Engine 5 and C++. If anyone's interested, feel free to DM me on Discord @BeegYoshi979#8541. I look forward to this amazing experience and I can't wait to see what my potential teammates and I come up with!

Thanks for the feedback! So in the game, the ghosts don't actually kill you, they just alert the witch to your position so she starts chasing you. Also, we could not do animations due to time constraints unfortunately, but maybe when I come back to this project, I can add them in. :)

If anyone's wondering why the Mac build disappeared, it's because I haven't fully figured out how to build Unity games for macOS and because I don't own a Mac computer. I apologize for the inconvenience. :(
