I like the concept of of unlocking story as you score points but I found it hard to move around as the words are long. Also encountered bug where top would get me stuck and I am not able to delete the text. I found it best to stay in the middle and spam shoot which made it a bit boring. It is a nice idea and if you add more things like enemies you cannot kill but have to dodge, and fix the bugs, it would be a great game!

I'm with Kingjaw on changing your choices for the commands. Top was easy, but middle and bottom, just "mid" and "bot" then they're all three characters. I like that shoot is longer because there should be a little more anticipation and work for the attack.

Locking the story behind the scoring system was a great way to make it work really well with the gameplay. I know this isn't part of rating, but I love the attention and care you put into your thumbnail!

I wish I didn't have to select the text box at the start to begin typing, or you should have given more of a buffer before the enemies starting coming at me. I would also suggest an enemy type that you can't shoot so it forces the player to move.

I couldn't move up. Or more accurately, I could move up but then I was stuck:

"top" wouldn't clear out of my text box like shoot did, so then I was stuck up top.

Overall, this was a really fun entry and solid submission. Thanks for sharing it.

I agree with you and Kingjaw! I've been told a lot to add a new enemy type and shorten the letters. Thanks for playing!

The story slowly unlocking as your score increases is a really cool mechanic, I really like a lot of the mechanics of this game. But I feel like using the textbox is a bit unnatural, as you have to keep switching between mouse and keyboard. I think this game would have definitely benefited from somewhat of a custom text system, and possibly shortening down the phrases, for example shoot could just be "sht," bottom could be "bot," middle could be "mid," etc. But overall a pretty unique concept for a game that I think could definitely be expanded on.

Developer

Thanks Kingjaw, shortening letters is a great Idea!

That was fun! I like the story being revealed by your score. It gives an incentive to keep playing until you unlock it.

I did notice in your game description under controls it says "Middle = 'middle' or 'Bottom'".

Developer

Thanks Turquoise Moon! Its good to give an incentive to keep playing, even though the game should be harder. Also thanks for noticing the mistake in the description when I didn't oops

hey your game was very very easy, i just typed SHOO and wait for an enemy and type T also your retry button doesn't work. don't worry my game is also super duper easy, technically you could do the same thing, stand on one place and shoot lol, otherwise interesting idea

Thanks for playing ghostbit! The play again  button does work but the text box just collides with it. So press the bottom of the play again button to play again. Also yeah it is very easy haha

oh thats weird...why is it like that....oh wait you use UNITY huh!

I just forgot to shrink the textbox, thats all

I think it is a cool idea to control a ship using text! It feels like I am sitting at a terminal and working as an operator controlling the ship remotely. I also really like that you only reveal what the ship is actually being used for after you've destroyed more and more with it (it reminds me of the book Ender's Game)   :)

Enders game was what I was going for.  I’m glad you enjoyed my game

Love the name of your game and the idea of typing to fight is great. I did come across a problem with starting again on the menu screen and I think it would be better if the enter command button didn't need to be clicked on at the start. I also found that I didn't have any incentive to move the typefighter, I'm guessing you ran out of time and were planning to add some undestroyable asteroids? Tying up the story to your high score is a pretty neat idea, really liked that and see a lot of potential once a few things are sorted out

Thanks for playing! Starting again on the menu screen. I accidentally made my text box overlap onto the button. So if that happens just click the bottom. Yeah I forgot to add an incentive to move, whoops. I would add an indestructible asteroid in the future, but I think making it slower would be good

It's good that you know where the problem on the menu was and that it can be fixed. Asteroids would definitely be cool in a future update. I think you got the foundation for a cool little game. In  my opinion I think the speed was alright but I guess if it started slower and then went faster that could add to a bit more to the challenge. I'm sure that whatever you make though it will be awesome.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank You! Asteroids I think will be good slower seeing as the bottom and middle are longer to type. I think maybe spawn rates would be better than speed. seeing as some people dont need to be the fastest typers to win!

Submitted(+1)

That would be excellent!

Interesting concept, but tbh I feelt like the best strategy for me was just to stay in the middle and type shoo, then just press t when the next enemy spawns, so it got kinda boring to play.

Developer

yeah I get that, not really an incentive to move, I might make a post Mortem of this and fix some bugs and add some indestructible objects or something. Thanks for playing!
