A stealth game is a very good surprise in this jam, would love to see it developped into a longer game. I love the attention you put into the story telling too.

I didn't take it into account while rating but I had a small bug where the window wasn't aligned with my screen and I couldn't see the top and left and couldn't aim at the bottom and right. Surely comes from my pc though.

Thank you! That's my fault, I hardcoded the game to force 1920x1080 resolution so if your monitor is lower res, it messes up some of the visuals. Realized that too late haha.

Hahaha Mistakes were made. 5 stars tho, good luck :)

Great aesthetic! The tension that builds to getting the gun and the flip in power from the enemy to the player is very well presented.

I found the stealth mechanics a little off though, particularly on the third level with the eye - I got repeatedly caught out by the creature, expecting bushes to break line of sight for the creature as they do for as the eye... unless the eye just has a smaller detection radius lol

Otherwise, great work :)

Thank you!

Yeah third level is quite hard, They actually have the same detection object.

I guess I could show it, here's the detection object, for funs:

I love this game. it's really eerie and unsettling, but is still fun.

the game uses some really good pixel art, and the sound effects are also great. that scream is gonna haunt my nightmares. the small story is also really good.

the game controls amazingly and responsive. i never had a problem with them.

the gameplay is also really good. i like the stealth mechanics, although it took a while before i realized how they worked (but that's on me, as i barely play stealth games).

the game is pretty short, but it is the perfect length for this type of game. i'd love to see what you make next time!

Thank you! happy that you liked it.

Very well designed !

The stealth mechanics are spot on , i really enjoyed the hiding gameplay with the tall grass, and the levels felt varied especially when having to deal with the "Sentry" enemies as well as the first introduced monster, the aiming also was spot on and precise, with quite nice feedback whan you score a hit.

The atmosphere is absolutely great, the pixel art is really well done and the monster design is really cool and strange, the minimalist approach really adds to the surreal vibe, and there's a good sense of pacing with the introduction of different things slowly one by one, and i liked how you sprinkled the story bits as well. I won't spoil it but also neat climax to the game.

Don't know what i could say more, i found it really well done so Congrats !! :)

Developer

Thanks a lot MetalWolf!

This is a beautiful and satisfying game.

This was so great! The graphics and the sound design are really spot on! The final moment of firing your one bullet is the perfect way to peak the tension at the end of the level. Great stuff!

Developer

thank you for your kind words!

The payoff when shooting the monster is REAL! The low freq bass sound is genius and adds a sense of foreboding to the game. Nice work mate.

Developer

Thanks a lot!

This must be a finalist. Again, when it ended, i wanted more. Well-designed, loved the stealth mechanics, loved the one bullet thing, loved the story. You go man!

Quite an interesting game with pretty artstyle and fun gameplay. I would really enjoy some more levels and more mechanics, but I can imagine the 48 hor stress. Really enjoyed playing this one. Good job!

Developer

Thank you! Díky

The art for this is great! I found the stealth a little difficult to interpret but the loop of finding the gun and then making the shot with your one bullet is fun!

Developer

Happy to hear you had fun!

The sound and visual design is like I've looked in the soul of a Yorkshire Pudding and it stared right back at me. Very chilling, but incredibly satisfying. Really liked the game and the feel of the game.

The one bullet mechanic has been repeated over and over again, but just like with a Yorkshire Pudding, practice makes perfect. All in all, I give it 3.5/5 yorkshire puddings.

Developer

I'll yorkshire your pudding bb

really nice style and gameplay. The theme of there only being one bullet doesnt really count, the bullet is just the goal like in any other stealth game. Still a good game tho

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The stealth part should make the one bullet part feel more important and add tension. If you miss your only shot, you failed.

Solid game! It was really polished all around, and, being more focused on stealth, the one bullet mechanic can add a lot of tension. Very enjoyable, well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

I played through the whole game, and you've done a nice job here! Here's a more in-depth review:

Design [4/5]: I'm very hesitant to call this a shooter game with only one bullet. It really just feels more like a stealth game to me than a shooter game. Having said that, it's nice that there are two phases to the gameplay. The first phase is complete stealth, the only goal being to get to the gun while avoiding enemies. The second phase is hunting down the enemy. My biggest complaint about the design is that the second phase is completely trivial compared to the first phase. Once you have the gun, it's pretty hard to get caught since you can just shoot the enemy from so far away that it can't even see you. I wish that the gameplay changed in some way once you had the gun. Maybe collecting the gun suddenly wakes up some sleeping enemies? Or maybe collecting the gun changes the layout of the level in some way? Right now, things are so trivial once you have the gun that the gun might as well have just been an exit door to the next level (although that wouldn't have fit the narrative you were going through - but that's basically how the gun functions mechanically at this point). That criticism aside, it's a nice game! The levels are nicely designed. All of them are challenging, but fair. You can always plan ahead and analyze the situation before you have to move into it. The art style clearly communicates what is an enemy and what is part of the level. Nice job!

Adherence to the Theme [4/5]: It is a shooter game with only one bullet, but I think it's more than that. It's really a stealth game. I don't think the stealth aspect fits the theme, though.

Originality [5/5]: Cool idea! I've seen lots of stealth games, but most of them take place in cramped buildings with human guards. This one really makes you feel like you're on the hunt for a creature far more threatening than you are.

Thanks for a big comment!

I actually put the gun quite late into the game and then changed the game around it, tbh it feels pretty out of place. Game started as a one life stealth game with one enemy (that would be stalking you) and that was my take on the theme.

If I would change one thing it's the gun and put a meele weapon in the game instead, so you would have to sneak behind the enemy.

This is a really great analysis of this game. Do you think you could take a look at my game and tell me how you find it? https://mark-auman.itch.io/one-shot-in-the-chamber

Nice Idea, the game was short and simple but fun. I think there is still room for more complex mechanics in game. Also, the art is really good and eerie. Nicely done.

Developer

Thank you! Yeh could use some more mechanics.

Originally, I thought this was kind of an overused concept throughout the jam (one bullet), but the light stealth mechanics are a nice way of adding tension. Good work!

Happy to hear that you liked it!

awesome aesthetic, one-bullet was one of the ideas me and my friend were thinking of as well when we were planning. I'm glad I got to see someone do it justice :)

Developer

Thank a lot!

Very nice game! I didn't expect the instant death when one of the ... things see you.

It's quite hard sometime to predict the vision area of each one, but I guess that's part of the game...

Fantastic graphics and atmosphere also gameplay. I really enjoyed it.
