You've got adorable characters, gorgeous pixel art, a twist that sounds like it couldn't possibly work but somehow, you guys MADE it work which just comes down to superb game design. And it's funny. Was buying a hat in the middle of a wave a bad strategy? Absolutely. Do I regret it? Not one bit. [5/5]

Hey, we made a GMTK game too. Check it out!
No one should regret buying a hat, ever. Thank you for the awesome review! I've played your game yesterday and it was really awesome, I left a comment there! :D
This is absolutely fantastic. The rest of the comments are raving, and I'm all aboard the hype train for this one. Easily one of the best submissions for this game jam. Here's my more detailed review:
Design [5/5]: I was a bit concerned that this wasn't going to really be a tower defense game. Thankfully, my concerns vanished as soon as I started to play. This is very much a tower defense game, and a well-thought-out one at that. The varied enemy types are all balanced well with your character's move speed, the tower's range, and your attack power (all of which are upgradable, but why would you when you can have a cool hat?). As far as balance goes, the game was challenging, but completely fair.
Most of the time, when you're playing a tower defense game, you aren't just sitting around idly. You're usually looking through tech trees and upgrade menus and building more towers. I was worried that, since you only have one tower, you weren't going to have anything to do while the tower takes care of the enemies on one side of the battlefield. Thankfully, there's much more to do than just move the tower around thanks to the brilliant upgrade system. Rather than accumulating currency by picking off enemies like in most tower defense games, you accumulate currency by collecting crystals that appear in random locations in the battlefield. It keeps you occupied while the tower fires away, meaning there's almost never a reason not to be moving, but it does even more than that. Since the crystals are the only way to upgrade the tower, you have lots of motivation for collecting them, so you have to strike a balance between moving your tower to the optimal location and hunting down crystals. There is never a dull moment with this game because of that system.
Another thing I love about the upgrade system is that it's only as serious as players want it to be, thanks to to the "cool hat" upgrade option.
The boss battle is a brilliant addition to the game as well. It forces you to juggle three things at once: fight off the waves of enemies, collect crystals, and hit the boss. The game had me fully engaged from start to finish. What a brilliant design!
Adherence to the Theme [5/5]: This is a wonderful interpretation of the theme, and I think you guys turned an odd-sounding restriction (only one tower) into a brilliant little game.
Originality [5/5]: The game is totally unique as far as I'm concerned. It's a breath of fresh air in the tower defense genre. Well done!
I seriously can't applaud you guys enough. This is a contender for my favorite game of the entire jam. I don't know whether or not you two have future plans for development on this game, but I would support you morally and financially if you chose to do so. Great job! Bravo!
Holy moly, that was a ride! Thank you so much for such a detailed review, it give us a lot of insights and it make us super happy. You described the whole experience that we created, in the way that we tried to achieve, so it's super rewarding to read such description. Thank you so much JayLeCavalier! You are awesome and made our days much better!
Graphics: Wonderful

Characters: Delightful
I really want to see a full game for this. This was so much fun! Great concept!
Thank you very much for your kind words <3
Very clever idea and well-executed. Gave it 5/5/5. I think this concept has a lot of potential.
Thanks a lot!!! :D
Wow! I mean WOW! This game is awesome! The graphics are cute and simple (I LOVE the chicken by the way :P), and the concept is great! I love the power-ups, and the extra strategy element of how your character moves faster when he's carrying the tower is genius! A very well made and polished game that I had a ton of fun playing! I really hope this game gets featured in the video, you guys deserve it! :D 5 stars for everything from me! :)
I would also really appreciate it if you would play my game, Sheepherd Dog. Thanks in advance! :)
Oh man, thank you so much for your kind words. We hope that it appears in the video too, let's pray for the gods of game design! hahaha
I've played your game, super fun! Left a comment there :D
You're very welcome, you certainly deserve it! :)
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it :)
What a great game! The graphics are adorable, the sound design is nice, and the concept is such a great twist on the genre!
Thank you so much, it means a lot to us :D
Absolutely loved it!
Thank you! :3
5/5/5 nothing else to say
Your silence is killing me quak, thanks a lot!
5,5,5 awsome!
No, you are awesome!
one of my favorites so far
Thanks a lot :D :D :D
So far the best game I played from the jam. Well done to you !
Thank you so much!
I was initially considering tower defense with one tower for my entry, but it seemed like you would just have a lot of downtime of just waiting. I love how you have something to do while the tower needs to stay put to shoot at enemies, really clever take on the idea.
We were thinking about this problem since the beginning, we also decided the gem system since the beginning, as a fix for that. Glad it worked :D Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Really cool idea and execution! I really like the party had easter egg! Thank you for making this game!
Thanks a lot, the hat is the true way of life. And thank you for playing it :D
Great game! It's already lots of fun as it is, so I can only imagine where it can get with more work and polish!
This is definitely going to be showcased by GMTK!
I hope soooo, let the god Mark Brown hear your prayer. Thank you so much <3
Polished and nice take on tower defense games, well done!
Thank you a lot!
It's a beautiful game. I like the interplay of having to move your tower around (so you shouldn't stray far from it) and having to collect gems to upgrade the tower. I find it a bit weird that you move faster with the towerbag on your back than without that burden. The boss level is a bit trivial (the previous one was more tricky). I really like the transitions between levels, the intro, and the credits level. Chicken is hella cute.
It's indeed weird that you move faster with your tower, we wanted to change the animation to justify that, but we didn't have time for that unfortunately :(. And yes, the boss level was not well balanced, it was really rushed at the last day! But we're going to release a overall update in the next few days fixing those details.
The chicken is super cute, Rodolfo (the artist) is super proud of it hahaha
But I want you to know that with all the critique I've given you I still think it's a good game.
With quite an original concept and beautiful elaboration, this game has to be the best one I've yet played in this jam. I'm generally not a big fan of TD games, but this was a fun experience from start to finish.
The controls were smooth and responsive, difficulty set in about right level, style is charming and the upgrade system makes the game more fun and removes the tedium. I also like the fact that, although it doesn't make that much sense, your character is actually faster when carrying the tower, which leads to a dillema, if I should pick up the tower to be able to faster get those sweet sweet upgrade crystals. It also sets itself nicely for possible future updates with more maps and bigger enemy variety.
Overall, really good job and I really enjoyed playing it.
P.s.: manual pause button would be great, as I was playing the game during my breakfast, which made things really hectic. ;)
Thanks a lot for the big review, it means so much to us! And yes, we agree that running with the tower making you faster is super weird, we didn't have the time to elaborate a animation that makes more sense with this behavior, but as soon as the rating period ends, we will update this :D
Thank you so much!
Simple but fun, love the idea
Thank youu :3
The use and interplay of the character and the tower are great! Also the execution, I don't know what else to say except I enjoyed this one. Very well done :)
Thanks a loooooot <3
Sure!!! May if you like, you could check out our game too! We would appreciate it :)
This was a pleasure to play. While the 1 turret limitation may seem harsh at first, it actually fixes what I don't like about most tower defense games, which is the amount of downtime, waiting, and grinding. In this, grinding is much more fun to me because you have threat assessments going on. Can I get the XP in time or do I need to go and move the turret? Excellent. I hope you decide to expand upon this game because I would love to play more!!!
Thank you so much man! We really appreciate this kind of feedback! The design intention was exactly that, I think that this risk/reward situation is working very well! We will do some bugfixes and some art changes in the next few days, then we will discuss about adding a little more content to it! Again, thank you so much for the feedback :D
