I won't pretend I knew exactly what was happening to start with but I still enjoyed it haha! It's an interesting take on health and damage - quite a cool use of the theme! (And I feel like there are way more hidden things I didn't discover? Seems like a good game to have lots of hidden things!)
Thanks for playing!
If you understood why changing the one digit used by the game is useful, you have the key to all the secrets.
Very nice game. Clever mechanic, nice introduction.
Only things: the music doesn't really fit the rpg fighting mechanic and is a bit repetitive, some sfx for playing attacks would be cool and the text boxes could be a bit faster.
Thank you!
I agree with the lack of juice in general, in the sound design and in the visuals. I would have loved being able to work on that before the jam's deadline.^^'
Great! It's so interesting to see that our games are so different takes on a very similar concept. I have to say I really didn't get it at first, but when I saw all the positive comments I had to give it a second try. It's very clever and fun to play once you get a grasp of the concept!
Thank you!
Yeah, it's pretty normal you didn't get it at first. I think nobody did, in fact. And that's exactly why I feared everybody would quit the game in 20 seconds max.^^'
Hopefully, the community rocks, so it didn't happen.
Awesome idea! You made the simple RPG battles an incredibly engaging puzzle. I loved it! My only complaint is that I wish the animations and text was a bit faster (I gotta get back to that gameplay!).
Thanks for playing!
I'll surely make it faster.
Wow! This idea is so strange and wonderful, i love it! Among my absolute favourites. I caught myself a few times trying to change the digits by scrolling through them, that would be a nice little addition since everything else works with the mouse as well. Super cool result!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
And... actually, I didn't think about scrolling through the digits using the scroll mouse. That might be a really good idea! Thanks for sharing!
Insainly clever game. From the first sight, it would seem, that it's a joke, but deep down this game is a masterpiece of mathematical design. Don't afraid to play this small game, the core gameplay is easy to learn and fun to play.
Thank you so much!
I'm glad you liked it.
Awesome concept, I can always appreciate a thought out RPG! Cool game :)
When I read the blurb about being able to change the digit used, I thought I found a secret by using the digit 0, but sadly no lol
Thanks!
Haha, no, the digit 0 was quite problematic: I prefered not to use it for this jam. But looking back on it, I have some pretty cool ideas for exploiting zero...
Anyway, the only secret this text hints at is that you actually CAN enter a name with more characters.
WHAT A COOL CONCEPT! I love the battle mechanics! You really thought outside of the box with that! You could totally flesh this out into a full game! I would love to play a full on story mode with this idea implemented! Kudos!
Thank you!
Loved it - you really took the theme and ran with it! Big fan of the puzzle-esque combat and the way that working out the game's various systems was the real battle. Felt that everything was introduced at a good pace too, but I'll admit I felt a little overwhelmed come the final boss!
(And others have mentioned it too, but that name selection at the start was absolute gold - thanks for the laugh!)
Thank you very much. :-)
To be honest, I'm pretty surprised (and glad) that the pace turned about right.
I was in such a rush for designing the actual battles, in the last hour, that the mechanics could also have been really hard to understand. I guess I'm lucky!
Pretty neat idea. I had that moment of "Oh! I get it! Noice :)" which is always a great experience to have. As you continue to work on this game I would recommend giving the player and option to speed up the text maybe even have it instantly appear because it does add artificial time which can make it less enjoyable. However, I really do think the theme was implemented in a very clever way. Nicely done
Thanks for your comment. :-)
And yeah, if I update this game, I'll definitely speed everything up.
Really neat way of using the theme. Good job. I took me a while to understand how it works. I guess that "The Thing" likes to use Concentration.
Haha thanks.
Yeah, I suppose The Thing is that kind of "all bark and no bite" mob .
very clever good job
I love the designs of the enemies, and the concept is neat and unique! The music had a nice groove with that guitar scratching. Oh YESSS. It's nice to see a game so different from the others!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
I didn't make the music, though. It was all taken from https://www.zapsplat.com/
This combat system is really, really cool and original :D
It's sad that it's not an actual full game to be honest.
(loved the name selection too much :p)
Thanks for your comment!
I also am totally sad I didn't manage to finish this. :'-(
This is really original! I really like the idea (I still don't think I fully understand it). I got stuck on Myadas. My only criticism would be that the slow animations kinda punish exploration, a button to skip/make them faster would be welcome.
Thanks for your comment!
I agree with you, it really is slow. I'll probably speed it up after the vote session.
This game is really damn good, my favorite of the jam so far. You literally took the number one and made a fun, interesting turn based rpg out of it.
Also the name selection was hilarious
Edit: Sadly the final boss keeps respawning so I can't finish it
Thank you very much. Glad you liked it!
And yeah, sadly, I couldn't make an ending before the deadline. But if you took down Myadas, you did beat the game.
it's my first time working alone for a gamjam, and damn, it was challenging to make it work before the deadline. Also, if I had the time, the enemies would have had an AI. It would have turn these battles into actual puzzles where you MUST heal and protect yourself sometimes.
