How does your game fit the theme?
We used the theme in a short of metaphorical way. Bob has set a very important goal for himself and we wanted to show his struggles when nothing in life is under his control.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

No

We used pre-existing art

Did your team create the audio for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

No

We used pre-existing audio

great game ! I love the graphics, the narrative and the voice overs.

Thanks Ryan! :D

Made multiple tries, I really like this game ! Some aspects of it kinda remind my own. Great job!

Developer

Thanks Quentin, it's true! I was hit by a car on my first try of both games :D

Fantastic job! This is the first game on this jam that I'm playing that has narration like this. Good job on that.

The gameplay feels a bit too slow, especially, since it's supposed to be played in loops after error that the players makes. So repeating the same sections over and over again feel a bit tedious :)

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it MonsieurPazur! Totally see what you mean, many people told us the same thing and we'll keep it in mind next time around. :)

It looks great and the weird situations were fun. It just gets really tedious after a few tries to get the same story bits over and over just to grab another item and beat another situation. Maybe a way to skip ahead or a check point system would be great to make it not quite as repetitive.

Cheers, Laura

Developer

Thanks for the thoughts Laura, I'm not sure a check point system could work in our case because it was intentional that the player had to start over and learn which items are optimal for each case. But I have to agree on the fact that we could potentially handle it better and get the player with less downtime to the point they previously lost.  It's the first time we tried to make this type of game and I definitely want to experiment with some more linear adventures in the future so all this feedback is really valuable! Thanks again :D

This game looks great, but it feels like something that was already in development that was just submitted to the jam.  How does it fit the theme?  I fell through the ground and was glitched out almost immediately.  It also feels like there isn't much to do.  You walk around until you find out you need an item, start over and grab that item.  I clearly didn't understand this game.

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play our game AwesomeSeriously!
We used some already bought 3D assets for the city and the characters but there was still much more that we added, had to  fix existing uvs, collisions & set proper prefabs, make custom assets for the item select and outro cinematic, character rigs and animations and our 1 coder had to implement all these  scripted events, ending cinematic and audio.  Also note that this is by far our first jam so we have an understanding of how to scope, plan and execute things to make a game like this in 2 days :)

We were aware about a couple collider issues since 5 mins after the we submitted the project but couldn't fix in time.

Lastly as far as gameplay goes, it's mostly a walking-sim with a "Stanley Parable" style of narration so indeed there's nothing crazy in terms of it. We wanted to use the theme in a more metaphorical way to tell that no matter what your have planned in life, sometimes things are not directly under your control (like getting hit by a reckless driver, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, a sudden and unprecentended pandemic outbreak, or simply forgetting to bring an umbrella on a rainy day when you have to go to an interview).

Probably the best looking game in the entire jam!

Gameplay is lacking (a walking simulator) but that’s totally understandable given that I believe this was meant to be a story-based experience. I really like the mechanic of having to learn what Bob needs to bring based on previous runs and how the story and narration change based on that.

Only suggestion I have (assuming that the intention is to have the player try multiple times) is make the restart process much quicker either by making Bob walk faster so it’s easier to test out the new items you’ve chosen or add some checkpoint system so you don’t have to start from the beginning again at Bob’s house.

Great storytelling experience!

P.S. The bobbing of the camera is a nice touch as you watch Bob bob along the sidewalk.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that tunzor! Feedback dully noted, we definitely could do more quality of life improvements and also do a better job at making some item clarity and better level design but there's so much you can do in 2 days.

The camera trick is super simple, just make the camera follows the pelvis or spine bone of the player character and you get that movement for free. ;)

Totally understandable, we were all time limited. Just some general feedback if you ever wanted to improve it.

The things we can do with game engines, amazing stuff!

Wow this game, I don't have the words. For 48hrs its amazing. Incredible 3D, narration, level design. Maybe on the gameplay side its a bit rough around the edges but everything else is top notch.

Thanks a lot! Note that we used some already bought 3D assets but there was still much more that we added, had to  fix existing uvs, collisions & set proper prefabs, make custom assets for the item select and outro cinematic, character rigs and animations and our 1 coder had to implement all these  scripted events, ending cinematic and audio. It's the first time we tried such a different type of game for a jam and it was definitely challenging. Totally worth it though and I hope we get the chance to make a similar type of game on a bigger scale one day :D

this was such a nice game! i really enjoyed the narration and just generally had good time!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it tranquilmage! This made my day :D

Submitted(+2)

I enjoyed this submission, the narrator made me smile a few times. The graphics are really nice too!

Developer

Glad you liked it! I'm not proud of the amount of times I had to record the lines but at least someone liked them :')

Submitted(+1)

Really liked it, it's incredible that you made it in two days. Great job!

Developer

Thanks Ostrich Dog! It was a full weekend of work but we are quite happy with the final result :D

Submitted(+2)

Really nicely done!

Developer

Thanks a lot :D

Submitted(+3)

Very fun and humorous, you managed to get a lot done. As other have said walking could be sped up slightly but doesn't detract from the experience. Keep up the good work 👍

Developer

Thanks Michael, I really need to stop trying to make whole cities in 2 days.. Hearing lots of people tell us about the walk speed, we'll definitely keep it in mind next time and have it a bit faster!

(+2)

Absolutely hilarious. I friggin' love this.

Developer(+1)

Thaaaanks! :D

I absolutely love the graphics and the audio of this game! I'll forgive them for not being made during the jam. ;D

The game itself can feel a little slow at times because of Bob's walking speed and some passages that are longer than they needed to be. I was also scared that I would get frustrated after dying many times, but the game is luckily short enough so that didn't happen. ;D Overall a fun experience.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Glad you like it Schred! Recording all those lines and balancing all the audio clips and music together was a lot more work than we initially thought but at least we managed to leave it at an acceptable quality. Fun fact about the pacing was that we initially had 2-3 more events planned out but that would mean a looot more restarts and probably kill the pacing even more :D

(+2)

Great idea. Game play was understandably slow, but still too slow. Fell through floor glitch at one

Developer

Thanks man! Maybe the Art Director is to blame for the dramatically slow cinematic walk speed. Oh wait, that's me.... :')

We found out about the missing collider 5 mins after we submitted but thanks for pointing it out.
