How does your game fit the theme?
A friendship sim built upon the premise of not being able to control your emotions. Socializing is hard. Dealing with anxiety while socializing is just a bit more difficult. Fidget with your pen, don't let the music drown out the conversation, and remember your breathing exercises! You've got this!

The text should be skippable or faster. It's big boring, considering the little of interaction

But the art is nice, and i love the fact you made a game about anxiety. You show the "signs" of anxiety with the animations and that's cool. (Maybe you'd like to play my game, it's about anxiety and panic attacks ;) )

Thank you for your feedback! The dialogue is meant to emulate small talk with someone you're catching up with. However, there was a lot of dialogue that was cut. Our original idea was to have the conversation shift and change based on how stressed out your character was. However, time got away from us and we had to cut almost all of that out.

Developer(+1)

I can see why you'd feel that way about the dialogue, and as the writer it was in part designed that way so that you wouldn't feel like you were missing out on story when you had to focus on the 'stress events'. And Curturp is right in that a whole lot of the more dynamic aspects of the dialogue ended up being cut; he also had some really great expression animations that we sadly didn't have time to implement either that would have helped a lot with making the conversation itself more interesting. In short, the dialogue didn't end up getting quite the polish it needed for us to flawlessly pull off, but the game jam was about getting the game done, so dialogue polish was sacrificed to accommodate the time crunch. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Yes i understand, i had to cut a lot from my game as well. Almost all the story, some features, a lvl, just to be able to finish the game. I think what matters is that the player understand the game's core / main Idea.

Nice job! I enjoyed the sweet pixel graphics and really fun mechanics and gameplay! Well done. :D

Developer

Thank you so much for the encouragement and feedback!

Great job! We like seeing something different from the famous destroy everything! The game has a very good feeling, the dialogues are really interesting and I admit that I ended up letting the bar go up very easily, I got involved in the conversation a lot, but I played again! The art is very beautiful, however, I didn't hear any of the sounds and music, maybe they were too low, my only criticism, is in relation to that! Excellent job!

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! The music and sfx are definitely a lot more quiet than most the games in the jam! We'll try to strike a better balance in future updates!

Thank you so much! We enjoyed making something different from 'destroy everything's! Glad you found our game worth a replay!

Well done! Cool to see someone else who not only made a narrative game, but also used GameMake!

Developer

yes! it was fun to make! Thanks for your comments!

I love the game, the only thing that bugged me was that the small text. The text on the button prompt for shift+space was hard to read, I thought it was left shift and right shift at first. You could expand the space you have to work with a little as 4x3 pixel letters are impossible, put it up to 8x4 (including space between letters) and you will be fine.

As the artists, it's refreshing to get some constructive feedback my side of things! I'll take this into account when updating the game in the future. I'm still fairly new to pixel art and how it translates into the game. Making sure that everything is clear and readable is a good design philosophy for accessibility. Thanks again for the feedback!

love that i'm finding more games on mental health - great job!

Developer(+3)

It was a tricky decision to make because we want to be mindful of people who deal with these things in real life. However, I'm glad we made the decision!

Nice little game! I believe that most things have already been said by other comments, but i really feel like this game could be quite nice if things just went faster and had an ending. But apart from that i really like the ambience and the social anxiety concept is really cool, writing is also interesting, i felt like it really showed how weird small talk can be.

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for giving our game a try! The feedback is greatly appreciated. Once the jam is over, and my own anxiety has leveled out from this weekends craziness, I'd love to get back to this game, polish it up and give it the proper ending it deserves!

And i would like to play it finished!

I for one can't wait to see an update

Thank you both so much! <3

A lovely little experience and a very nice approach to the theme. With a little more development to make the stress-relieving exercises matter more this could really be a gem. I can't articulate why but I also love the super casual sci-fi setting.

Developer(+1)

I agree, in the end we made the stress build too slowly, the triggers don't happen frequently enough, and it's too easy to resolve them. Hopefully we're able to fix that once the jam ends, and implement a proper ending!  Thank you so much for your feedback. It was a Jam to make!

good game. the dialog is ok.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback. We had a lot more dialogue written, but didn't have time to implement it properly!

Submitted(+3)

I really liked the graphics, the music and the general feeling of the game, but unfortunately I didn't understand what it was about and couldn't carve out the whole story to the end (if there's an end there), maybe I should go back to it?

Developer(+2)

Yeah, the "stress" bar is too slow to be engaging, and the "stress events" don't trigger frequently enough. Thank you for you feedback though!

Developer(+4)

It was also meant to be a 'fade to black' kind of ending, but we ran out of time to really make that as clear as we wanted. Thank you for your comment!

Submitted(+4)

Very nice writing, though I don't know what's the purpose of the stress meter. It rises very slowly, and even if its full nothing happens I believe

Developer (2 edits) (+2)

Hey there, the stress bar increases if you don't deal with the stressors in time. We tried increasing the rate at which it grew passively, but we weren't able to implement it in time. We should of also had it so that the stressors would trigger more often, as well as requiring more time to be spent on each stressors in order to resolve it. Thank you for your feedback! <3
