Exploration out of control. When gliding too long the wind teleports the player randomly to few places. Then, player has to figure out where he is using map. Wind appears in the third level of the tutorial and every after that.

I really liked the floating mechanics and actually quite enjoyed trying to figure out where I was on the map. Couldn't figure the 5th level out though!

I liked the movment and wind mechanics, however,  I feel the teleporting takes more away from the game then it provides which is a shame since that's the theme addition :/

I love the floating and draft~ I do however find the sudden teleport after a little while of flying very odd, and I never quite understood it, it was pretty frustrating as it wasn't always accurate.

Overall though, super sweet~ I'd like to see more

The floating mechanic was a cool idea~ I liked how sometimes there was an up-draft too. I couldn't read the tutorial sides with how the letter were placed lol.  The character and floating mechanic is a cool idea, so you should keep working on it!  Congrats on submitting a cool platforming game to the jam! Please check out mine if you haven't :D

Very cool mechanics, I like that you can glide and stop gliding many times in one jump! The game has enough ideas on it to expand it further! Also nice graphics, the character looks really good! Fun game!

(1 edit)

the fact that you don't see where you are in the map leads to an interesting experience, it's a little frustrating in the beginning, but when you understand the concept and try to find where you are, it leads to a lot of fun

This was really fun, even exploring how to figure out how to glide! I didn't get it also at first, but then it made more sense and I really like tihis sense of mystery!

Teleportation forces you to cross-reference the map after each teleport in an attempt to get your bearings, which creates a real sense of exploration. In a similar vein to Hollow Knight, not showing where the player is on the map asks you to really think about your surroundings, and I dig it!

Really enjoyed this game! I liked the gliding, but at first I didnt understand why I was getting teleported around the level, then I figured it out. The map was great, but I think it should have included the player.

I really like the gliding and level design! I think the random shuffling of the player is an interesting mechanic but maybe experiment with alternate ways to trigger it? Just because I wanted to explore the level you made but I kept getting zipped away :'D. Still a very polished and enjoyable experience!

It's a nice game. I like the gliding idea and the switches. I'm not sure the teleportation works in it's favor though, I actually thought it was a glitch at first. I feel like this could benefit from a really well maneuvered gliding mechanic that lets you get around the map in a well controlled and fast way. The out of control aspect could be winds from different directions. For example if the switches would change the direction of the wind, then they would not be just busy work, but become puzzles and you'd have to figure out in which order to activate them. Just a thought though. Well done regardless!

Developer

This wind changing direction was actually my way to go with the game, but I imagined that people will judge the game for having nothing with out of controls theme. I fell right into the Mark's trap:P

Yup, this will be one of the first things I have to explore. Thanks for playing!

Okay, so this game is way better than I initially thought.

A couple of things I think can be improved:

Explain that the blue crosses on the map mean locations where you can teleport to.

Also show these crosses on the map of Level 5.

Explain that the map doesn't show the player position and that it's part of the game to figure out where you are.

Make clearer that gliding is what causes teleportation.

Find a way to have the player control somehow (or at least influence) where the character is teleported to. I had to teleport quite a bit on Level 5 even after I knew where I had to go.

Now to things that I like:

The controls feel good. The game is responsive and the gliding is fun.

I love that you have to look at the map and your surroundings to pin point your location. I think it's a great choice that the map doesn't show your location.

Having to put in a code ensures that the player doesn't stumble on the solution by accident and is then confused how the game works.

But the code is simple so it's not frustrating to figure out what to enter if you know what to do and where you are.

I like the sprites and I love the wind particle effect, looks great.

So yeah, I had a fun time playing your game as soon as I figured it out completely. And I'm glad I managed that. The weak point of this game is the tutorial but it's not so bad that it's unplayable. :D

Developer

Seems almost like reading my mind. I suck at communication;)

I think the tutorial has explanation of platforming/gliding, and this is what people are trying to do next. There indeed should be more tutorial levels with easy introduction of each mechanic. Though I also feared if I will make too long tutorials people will wonder "where's the twist? where's the theme?" that on a jam. I expect people to play at most 5 minutes of the game, maybe more if they like.

Eh, I guess playing on intuition of a player is not a good way of teaching for a jam. Next time I will just have more short text boxes - crystal clear (hopefully:D)

Thanks for playing and very detailed feedback, I appreciate it.

Nice game, I like have a glide move rather than the usual dash in most platformers. Interesting idea of making the player find where they are if they go too crazy on the glide

Developer(+1)

I love feedback like this:D Eh, so now its punishment, now I have to definitely scrap this:D I actually designed the levels to look around and have the totems right by Your side, with little to no platforming, and the wind was supposed to be an easy way to quickly move around the map and remove backtracking:D But it backfired I guess;)

Thanks again

Nice graphics, and creative concept. I did not get that the teleportation was random till I read the description. Thought it was a bug :D

Developer(+1)

Yup its totally badly introduced, and will be one of the first things I'll scrap from full small project.

Thanks for playing

It's a great concept and the idea of giving the player a map with little/no frame of reference isn't used in enough games in my opinion.

The teleportation aspect honestly annoyed me more than entertained. I personally wanted to glide up and explore the map, and the teleporting cut that short. I want to explore the map on my own!

It's definitely got potential.

Developer

You're actually able to do that - when the wind howls You can balance the gliding/falling so that You will be rising up. But in the air without any graphic before You will teleport its quite hard to do.

But yeah, I just made the gliding as a simple distinct mechanic, and didn't realize that people will find in it the most fun. Play tests are important and I done none unfortunately. Teleporting should be done in special zones, or by pressing a button.

Thanks for playing!

Pretty fun game! I like the map aspect to it and having to match the torches properly in order to get to the exit instead of just going past them

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, map was intended to drive most things in game, so torches are made specifically to force the player to check the answer. Though as I want to expand this, it will probably change.

Thanks!

Such a cute game! Reminds me of Celeste with the graphics, the snow and such. I actually really like the idea of having to find yourself in the map based on the terrain. The game is good!

Submitted(+1)

I like the idea of being teleported to different places and using the map to figure out where you are. Once you get a handle on the different locations, the teleportation mechanic is actually a boon to finding the exit.

The art style made me think of Celeste. Great idea for the theme!

Submitted(+1)

The idea of this game is really nice and the levels were fun to play too. Personally I wasn't a fan of the wind teleportation mechanic because it was very confusing and resulted in me getting lost a lot. But otherwise, it was fun! Please give my game a try too! :)

Submitted(+1)

Great fun! I felt my control over the player was super "in control", even when using that sweet wind glide, but with every teleport I felt lost and needed to get my bearings on where I was and where I needed to go, which made me feel very out of control!

Knowing where I needed to get to and not having the control over getting there due to the random teleports was a really nice idea.

Great work!
