This game looks nice and I think there is something here. It felt like I was more being battered around by the rhythm than trying to work with it. Nice job overall.
This was really fun once I got the hang of what was going on! I got close to beating level 3, but not quite...
If you have time, please check out the game I worked on, thanks!
The concept is great and the art looks beautiful. Level 1 and 2 were doable, but level 3. Man, that difficulty spike.
Sorry about the difficulty spike 😅
I really dig the idea of this game, combining rhythm style elements with a platformer, but I couldn't help but feel I was losing control a bit too much for my liking. You see, I think the mechanics work really well, IF you manage to do the whole level in one go, which I assume is why the game is called cadence ('Press the right buttons at the right time and let the music and rhythm lead you through the level'.) However, I did not manage to grasp the level well enough to do that, and all of a sudden I felt very out-of-tune with the level, like I was off-beat and all the controls were working against me. It was quite hard to see what was going to happen, because it went pretty fast, so I ended up pretty confused and fell down most of the time. I think it's a cool concept, and maybe something with potential, but there I think there should be more of a fail-buffer build in somehow (if that's even possible.) Anyway, I think this is a very creative take on the theme and I love it for that, so good job guys :)
Thank you for the in depth and detailed feedback! We definitely made the challenge levels too hard and will look for ways to make it more lenient! Thank you for playing our game!
Love it, super neat. My only niggle is that the difficulty spikes HARD
Sorry we ran out of time to make medium-difficulty levels 😅
Awesome concept like a a song with a bit missing notes, player try to complete it and fight in dungeon.
Great music, great art, great game!
Really neat idea. First game so far that I felt compelled to play more of just for the fun of the challenge. Once you internalize the pattern of the level it's really satisfying to try to play to the rhythm and particularly try to thwart the moves that will careen you off the edge.
This is a good example of the spirit. It gets its core concept across and after playing it I had all sorts of ideas on how it could be expanded. Nice work!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the game and the level design-- especially discovering the importance of dash cancel in the harder levels ;)
Game is pretty fun! Two things I will say as criticism:
- The levels get really hard really fast, it's hard to take the time to learn it, but I understand that that's also part of the limitations of a game jam
- I feel like I have to watch two places at once, which is hard and prevents me from really getting into it
But overall, really original concept, I like it!
Thanks for the feedback! We ran out of time to develop more medium-difficulty levels :( As for the other problem we're thinking of making it easier to see from peripheral vision/more towards the center of the screen :)
I like the concept/music/art, but it physically starts to hurt after a little bit with the notes showing up in the top left. If you brought it down to the center of the bottom with the character, the player would be able to control much better because the distance between the spots would be much smaller.
Thanks for the suggestion! We might update it after the jam is over :)
Cool idea! I love tha audio, the presentation and the challenges.
Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoy the challenges :)
Fantastic. My favourite so far.
Thanks for the kind words!
