How does your game fit the theme?
We feel it fits the theme of Out of control because it literally randomly changes the usual control keys that player often use to move and jump in game. They cannot control the time the key changes nor to what key changes there are. In addition to that, they are not in control of the gravity shifts as they try to escape the lava. Basically put, it fits the theme of Out of Control as we interpreted the theme as Out of Control being not in control, and in this case, the controls for movements.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

Yes

We created all art during the game jam

Did your team create the audio for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

No

We used pre-existing audio

One of the better implementations of the concept. Good job!

What I didn't like:

  • The platforming was pretty buggy. I would get caught on corners pretty often.
  • Nitpick: The sounds didn't seem to have any identifiable purpose. (Although they were pretty interesting, and I know that's just how game jams go.)
  • The font is hard to read and there is a text bug when the movement keys are [ and ].
  • Eventually I got stuck at an un-makeable jump and subsequently fell through the bottom of the world.

What I liked:

  • The premise is simple and straightforward. I like that you include some keys in the rotation that are otherwise kind of taboo to use, like the function keys.
  • The platforming controls themselves were perfectly serviceable.
  • The graphics are coherent and interesting.

Overall, a decent submission!

Really fun game! I did encounter a bug however that on the second level I fell down a gap and fell through the world.

Also some of the font was hard to read. But very fun :)

Nice concept, implemented nicely! Graphics and audio were really good. I had some difficulty with reading the text  for the key bindings (the font was really small on my display), but overall had fun :) Good stuff

I really like the concept of this and I did love doing the keyboard gymnastics but several minor factors end up making it quite a frustrating experience unfortunately. I think the character takes up too much screen real estate, I really wish I was much smaller but could see much more around me so I could plan where I was going a little more. Unfortunately half of the keys were near-impossible to find, perhaps it should be limited to the letter keys only? (A more readable font would also help) That said, I really like the art, its cute and effective, and I did have a fun time playing it :)

Good job! Be carefull with the key bindings tho, because if you you take the Fx keys and also the Alt key, you can imagine the damage you could do (and also the frustration). I'd suggest also to prompt better when the set of controls changes, and make them a little more visually.

Other than that, well done :)

Good job! Though it was hard to find some of the keys with my Spanish keyboard :P

The concept is well executed, it's hard but not too stressful, the controls are comfortable, and the visuals are pleasing! I'd add some sort of warning before input chagnes so the player can anticipate what he'll be doing at that time.

I like the animation and art for the slime a lot, the game play was a bit too hard for me but the concept was great. Good work!

This is a really awesome concept! I've played a couple of the control changing type games, but yours is by far my favourite.

I think I broke it though I got to a place where when I moved pixels started breaking on my screen and I couldn't get off the spot I was on, even jumping would play the animation but not move my character.

Really fun though! High rates coming your way :D

I love the sounds and textures! Character controls feel nice.

Unfortunately I had to play it on my laptop, where I could not use all the keys when the keys were changing.  Butw when I connected an  external  keyboard it became fun!

A fun concept, only thing I would suggest is maybe making it slightly more obvious when keys have changed, maybe with a sound cue or visual indicator. But otherwise a fun little game! Quite Enjoyable!

Oh wow, I played quite a few games with constantly changing controls but this one is my favorite so far. It's very simplistic and this way it puts the focus on the change in the controls. Well done!

Quite an interesting idea - I liked how it keeps you on your toes by switching inputs every now and then. There were some minor bugs related to the character teleporting around and getting stuck in level geometry but it was fine otherwise. =)

Cool idea!

Personally I would change one thing and that is the slime so it fits with other textures because now his/hers one pixel is like four on other textures. He/She just want to be more detailed. :D

Interesting game. Maybe a bit too hard because some keys are just too difficult to use as controls at the same time. Also the repetitive sound of lava gets a bit annoying. And as some people mentioned, I think there a fix needed for collisions, because I can get stuck on the edge of platforms with no other choice than restart the game.

cool game , i like the art and movement . maybe a little hard but it can be fix :3keep going -Ivory-

It's got an interesting idea, changing the controls randomly, but I feel the execution feels a bit off. The text that shows you what keys to use is very small and not very legible, so it's sometimes really hard to tell exactly what key I'm supposed to use. Is it a K or is it an H? Also, I feel that collision is not as polished as it should be, I got stuck multiple times and had to restart. The message at the end is pretty nice though.

Too hard for me.
The other comment here explain very well why. With this small changes, it could be fun.

I think the idea of the game has good base but it could use some work. For example a timer or some indication that the keys were about to change would prevent the player from committing to a important jump or movement only to have their input taken away from them without warning.

Also I think the combination of keys that the slime has its movement change to should be created in more intuitive combinations since pressing keys in combinations which are seemingly randomly scattered across the keyboard is not something I personally enjoy.

Lastly I wish there were some indicator on the map that let you know if you were headed in the right direction or where in the world you were. The game world seemingly sprawls in several directions and with most of it looking the same it can be very easy to not know where I am and if I'm on my way to the exit.

Good luck for the future!
