Cards are really in my face. Some way to influence card draw would be nice. As it is i tried to play as many cards on the road as possible. And it came down to luck of the draw. Other than that really well thought out game. Well done

Love the art and music! Did not figure the mechanics at first, turned out to be a pretty strategic game! Love it. Please check out mine as well!

Very interesting concept. It's a bit hard to understand all the different parts of the strategy as I don't think it's explained anywhere in the game itself. Love the art. The map generation is quite satisfying. Has a lot of potential if fleshed out a bit more (tutorial, more cards, etc), looking forward to trying the updated version after the jam!

The card hitboxes seem a bit fiddly in browser, it's sometimes hard to get them to show as you want.

Ambitious to have a daily run mode as part of a gamejam! :D

I'd appreciate it if you check out my game too if you have a minute!

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments and much needed feedback! There's so much we wanted to accomplish before time ran out, but as you all know, there is never enough time in a game jam. We've made a ton of fixes to Bygone Trail since submitting and are excited to release a patch after voting has ended! Thanks for taking the time to play our game!

Very lovely art style!

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated. We had some very talented artists working with us!

Developer

Thanks so much! I did the 2D art -- very new to digital art and have little experience in general. But I'm very glad to see it's been received well! <3

This is a great idea! With a few more tweaks, this is a full-on game!

Developer

Thank you! Going to be adding a lot more. If you have any ideas we are open to them!

Submitted(+2)

Very well executed concept! It’s already looking like a fully produced game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I was shocked we were able to get as much in as we did.

The style is gorgeous and super relaxing, but I found the controls very fiddly (they're better full screen, though).  It'd be great if the caravan's resources were always visible, and if the cards use the same icons.
The Daily Game is a brilliant idea, and seems well implemented. Congrats on a good job yall!

pretty cool game concept! the caravan is so resilient!

there are a few bugs like I couldnt see the caravan stats after a couple of turns, so had to remember the values after it moves. and the map sometimes would spawn outside the camera view or under the cards

I played it at least 3 times, quite captivating! art is super cute too

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I didn't have time to get proper camera controls in. Soon!

Submitted(+2)

Really wanted to kill that pesky caravan! Good job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for trying! If only you had the Baba Yaga on your side...

Hey!! This is a super clever idea. Super nostalgic for me, you have great brainstorming skills. I also loved your artwork, definitely a highlight. Well done, team!

Developer

Thanks so much! We had some amazing artists.

Oregon Trail is one of the first games I played as a kid, it was fun playing from the other perspective haha, nice job!

Submitted(+3)

Very chill and fun. The card selection feels a bit off and difficult to control, but other than that this is a great game!

Submitted(+3)

Very fun! I love this idea of placing specific hazards on each tile and planning the perfect sequence to synergize with the caravan's current debuffs. As much as I love Oregon Trail, the random difficulty spikes can be too much to handle sometimes, so it's enjoyable to be on the disaster-dealing side of the table this time :) Great work, you guys! I really enjoyed playing.

This puzzle game was fun. I like the idea of playing as nature, the randomness of the deck plays in nicely to the volatile chaos of nature. Random generated levels is clever, real cool card game concept.

Submitted(+4)

Great work team! Really well executed and fun.
The cards can be a bit fiddly in terms of picking and placing at times, but once you get used to it they aren't too bad.
Loved the fact that the levels are randomly generated.
The effort you put into this really shows, good luck on the ratings!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much! Any tips on what was finicky about the card placement? It definitely needs some work.

Submitted(+2)

I think it was that I didn't realize at first that the card needed to be placed directly on the road (I thought it went to the tile), so I was pulling a card out and trying to place it, but it was snapping back into the deck. I think a subtle highlight of where you can place it when you are holding the card could make it easier

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That is really good feedback!!! Definitely adding that.

Developer(+3)
