The idea is very interesting, but I found the gameplay to be a bit confusing. It was very difficult trying to hinder the caravan since almost every card came with a benefit for the caravan. The instructions are also partially hidden underneath the map. Good idea though, and I hope to see it more polished in the future.

While the balancing is clearly off, I really enjoyed myself. Reverse Oregon Trail has a lot of meat as a concept, and the cards had a very good layout and sense of space.

Good work!

The idea is pretty great, really appeals to your inner sadist x) I feel that too few cards have drawbacks though, so you just end up throwing everything you have a the player. But with more balancing it could be a very nice !

Maybe because I never played the original, but I didn't understand the goal of the game, even when "reversed". I just pressed space a bunch and I lost.

With some clearer instructions and a progression system that slowly introduces new players that don't have the prerequisite knowledge, this looks like this could be fun! The art style is really clean!

Developer

That is really true! I think we needed to do some framing/establishing.

There's some issues with balancing, but once those are sorted out, I feel like this could be a great game. The graphics were good, and so was the music. The UI could do with a bit of work. Good job overall though.

Really impressive! I think the UX could potentially use some improvements, but still looks great for having been done in 48 hours!

Really good game! All the animations you had done for the tilesets and the cards were really nice. Also the tileset's art looks super polished. Card's enter exit animations felt too slow for the average mouse movement. Wish those were faster. Other than that this is a really solid game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We had an amazing dedicated 3D artist. I wish I had more time to polish up the card movements. Putting out a patch tomorrow that makes it a lot better.

Looking forward for the updates! Feel free to hop into my game as well and share your thoughts and ratings if you have the time!

Amazing artwork and concept is nice. For me the controls were really hard, I couldn't move the map at some point and the caravan was hidden behind the cards

Really cool concept. Love the art too!

Beautiful graphics! I love the idea and the base mechanics, and I think with a little more strategic elements it could go even further!

Really cool idea and lovely art.  Personally I feel like the intended startegy was a bit unclear tho.

Really awesome game. I personally love the OG Oregon Trail so this was an absolute treat! Only complaint is that I had a hard time getting the UI for the caravan's supplies to show up. It was a little finicky...

Really creative concept and great art! I think the balancing needs a bit of work, as some others have said. But it's a great core to what could be a really interesting card game!

Pretty neat game!

I, unfortunately, didn't have as much time to fully get invested in this game, but I can see quite a lot of thought being put into this! UI can be a little bit annoying to traverse tho...

But otherwise, good job! The art is nice, and in general this game is solid!

A very interesting game. Unfortunately, the UI does have some bugs that make it hard to play (you can’t pan to see the whole map, the cards can get in the way of play, and you can’t see the stats of the cart), but it’s nevertheless presented very well.

I did have some trouble understanding the intended strategy. Unless I’m missing something, it’s basically impossible to destroy the caravan in time unless you draw a bunch of cards that cause it to lose a person, which makes the resource system feel somewhat pointless to engage with. But the concept itself is solid, and I did have a lot of fun playing around with the game so long as I didn’t worry too much about winning.

Cards are really in my face. Some way to influence card draw would be nice. As it is i tried to play as many cards on the road as possible. And it came down to luck of the draw. Other than that really well thought out game. Well done

Love the art and music! Did not figure the mechanics at first, turned out to be a pretty strategic game! Love it. Please check out mine as well!

Very interesting concept. It's a bit hard to understand all the different parts of the strategy as I don't think it's explained anywhere in the game itself. Love the art. The map generation is quite satisfying. Has a lot of potential if fleshed out a bit more (tutorial, more cards, etc), looking forward to trying the updated version after the jam!

The card hitboxes seem a bit fiddly in browser, it's sometimes hard to get them to show as you want.

Ambitious to have a daily run mode as part of a gamejam! :D

I'd appreciate it if you check out my game too if you have a minute!

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments and much needed feedback! There's so much we wanted to accomplish before time ran out, but as you all know, there is never enough time in a game jam. We've made a ton of fixes to Bygone Trail since submitting and are excited to release a patch after voting has ended! Thanks for taking the time to play our game!

Very lovely art style!

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated. We had some very talented artists working with us!

Thanks so much! I did the 2D art -- very new to digital art and have little experience in general. But I'm very glad to see it's been received well! <3
