such a charming game! the gameplay is pretty straightforward, sure, but all the touches of extra effort everywhere make it a joy to play. being able to pick up a bag in each hand is cool, arms swaying when you run looks really cute, how polite the guests are when you deliver their stuff, all the art in general :) perfectly picked music as well

got the bug which broke the game after day 3. does that happen to everyone in the jam build or should i try again? i do wanna play more if there's more to see.

also i got 2 bags that were meant for room 406, but as far as i can tell there are only 401 through 404. mysterious...

Developer(+1)

That's very kind thank you! Glad you enjoyed playing as much as we enjoyed making it. Day 3 is the end so you haven't missed anything :)

And thanks for the info on the non-existing rooms. Very mysterious indeed, we shall look into that ;D

Very beautiful arts and concept, good job! :D

Thank you very much!

I've played a few games this jam where you play as a side character, but this one takes the cake. It felt great to play, everything from the running and luggage physics to the pixel art animations and sound effects (not to mention the itch page design and trailer). I think my favorite part was accidentally sending the elevator up as I was getting off, then forgetting and later falling down the shaft. I also really liked the whole "one piece of luggage per hand" thing. I felt efficient.

"Thank you soo much."

Developer

We are very glad you enjoyed it! The elevator leaving without you wasn't an intended feature haha, so we'll be looking to fix that (although we like the idea of throwing bags in, hitting the up button, and then hiking up a stairwell with a couple more to meet them at the top.

The art was really cool, I also loved how you included controller support, great work!

Developer

Thanks! I prefer a controller so that was a must :)

Very cool idea, good job!

Developer

Thank you very much! We hope you enjoyed :)

I really liked the gameplay .. the possibility of choosing the hand that carries the suitcase is a very cool detail lol

Really cool game! The core loop was simple but fun and everything else was very charming (the pixel art, the hand physics, the dramatic description, the trailer). I think some escalation like sketchy bookshelf parkour when the elevator is out of order or shuffling the room numbers could really complement the game (: Great job! (ps, i somehow managed to make the elevator leave the floor without me and got stuck)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game and for your super helpful review! Not sure how you managed to get the lift to leave without you - it's something we've since added as a feature (minus the getting stuck part, of course). Love the idea of porter parkour! We think there are a few different ways we can take it and are looking forward to adding and refining post-jam :)

Love love LOOVEEEE the cute pixel-art style! Really well done! :D

Developer

Shucks! Thanks for your lovely review and glad you liked the style.

Awesome game. Nicely polished with good animations and smooth, snappy gameplay. Also the Wes Anderson-like color palette for the hotel is very well done tbh. Reminds of the Grand Budapest Hotel.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! We hope you enjoyed the demo and we're glad you got the inspirations ;D

Haha I really like to manage large single colored areas/spaces and tried to do something like that in my game as well. I think it really helps to add contrast and direct the eye on what's needed to be looked at.

Very good idea! I really like it.  Art looking good and sounds fitting. (Browser version didn't run.)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We're pretty happy how it turned out - other than browser version not working of course :(

good game, addicting)

Developer

Amazing to hear, thanks for playing!

What a polished game! Great job in 48 hours!

Developer

Thank you so much! We hope you had fun playing :)

Such a fun game to play! I did encounter the bug with the day changes and I think after the 3rd day or so, I got an error message and had to abort the game. (Forgot to copy it here..) Also like someone noted, quality of life would be able to have the bags be able travel alone in the elevator. :D Great game non the less in 48 hours!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and glad you found it fun! We shall be uploading a more ironed-out version once the rating period is over - including unattended bags in the lift! For now perhaps it is just an extra challenge :D

Submitted

Sounds great! Interested to try out next version after rating period. ^^

Browser version did not work, maybe it's chrome os...

I'll try to download on windows.

Developer

Sorry that one's definitely on us. Browser version was working until near the end of the jam when it suddenly stopped and we couldn't work out why in the time left.

We now have a solution, but until the rating period is over our only offering here is for Windows :(

Submitted(+1)

Was a fun and frantic game, it felt super rewarding building up speed to slide the bags around. It was a little bit buggy but considering the development time thats okay. I think the bags not being held by the player should still move with the elevatior.

Overall I really enjoyed this game!

Developer(+1)

We're glad you enjoyed! Totally agree on the unheld bags in elevator - we're still trying to fix this one ><

Submitted(+1)

Well polished game and an absolute joy to play. Super fun. There does seem to be a bug with the day transitions though, there’s like 3 false starts until it properly transitions to the next day.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah that's one of those bugs we only noticed and fixed after the deadline haha. It doesn't stop play at least.

Glad you enjoyed :)

great fun concept

Developer

Thanks!

It was a bit hard to learn what the controls were for picking up and dropping the bags (maybe you should add a controls section on the itchio page, I didn't realize they were L and J buttons I only ended up using L) but other than that it was a nice experience, great work!

Developer

There is a screenshot of the controls :) Ideally we wanted to include it in game as a Pause screen, but sadly we ran out of time.

Not leaving a rating just yet, but I got an Error message and figured I'd ask about it.

Developer

Ooh, sorry that is a bit of an odd one isn't it. Line -1 doesn't make much sense.

Perhaps it got corrupted on download or install, so perhaps try a fresh install?

Did you manage to get into the game before getting this error?

Thanks for responding. I did try installing it a second time, about to try a third ^w^"

I did manage to start the game, the error occured when attempting to pick up the first suitcase

Developer

Ah, are you perhaps using a non-Playstation controller? I expect there will be missing sprites for a lot of the differing buttons. Something to improve on in future!

Should work fine on keyboard though.

Oh, yeah that was the issue. Thank you very much for the help, I was trying to play on an offbrand controller, since my keyboard doesn't have dedicated arrow keys. Tried with one that does and we're all good. Thanks for the assistance.

Developer

Great! WASD and Q/E should work equally well in case that helps :)

Gosh, well now I just feel like an idiot XD

Anyhow, great game! I really like your artstyle.

Submitted(+1)

Great little game! The bag sliding mechanic is great and feels super fun when playing. I enjoy the artstyle and the feel of the game overall. I would like a way to spend money however with the constraints of the game jam this is an amazing job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for playing our game and taking the time to leave a review. You're the second to mention something to spend money on - we have plans for rollerskates!

This is a really, really fun game. Didn't like the J and L controls at first, but they grew on me. Worked well when I got to level 2. Wished I had something to spend my hard earned money on, but it SO FUN to run through the hotel and throwing bags. I think you can get really good at homing the cases correctly after a while.

The "You did it!" text after a level is pretty unnecessary and gets obstructed by the elevator, and there are some gliches in between levels. But this is seriously a good game. Rated 5/5. BUT I wasn't able to play it in browser, and had to download it! I really hope it works for others.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game and for your brilliant, constructive review. Something to spend money on is a great shout!  Appreciate your perseverance despite the browser not being an option.
