Now this is a great game, loved it!

Took a couple tries but I beat it! the enemies were pretty tough to avoid sometimes for sure. One comment about the camera was that sometimes it seemed fairly arbitrary on where it was located and pointed. If I immediately went to the bridge, I could see the entire Dark Zone area pretty well, but in my first play I actually went 'up' and followed the fence, the long way, to the bridge, and when I entered the Dark Zone, the camera was fairly 'below' me so I couldn't see over the horizon at all.

however, after a few playthroughs I started getting the hang of ways to wander around a bit until the camera got to a spot that seemed easier to see.

Overall really great entry for your first jam :)

Developer

Thank you for playing the game and for your feedback. I'll take note of it to improve the game, especially the camera movement. Right now, I'm just using the Interpolated Camera node.

It was an enjoyable game! The graphics were nice. I really could really only get 2 power cells before being caught by a monster hahahaha!

The core mechanics of the game were cool, too!

Though, as said below, I really wish the camera was a wee bit zoomed in. It can be hard to see at times.

Thank you for trying out the game. I'll improve the camera in the future updates. Yes sometimes it's hard to avoid the enemies, I could rarely beat them when testing the game, lol.

It's visually great.  The smoothness really makes this game.  I wish the camera was a little closer but that might just be a personal preference.  Keep working on this one in the future, I'll play it!

Developer

Thank you for playing. Yes I will definitely work on the camera improvement.

Nice game! I really liked the character design.

I think an interesting mechanic may be to add some sort of 3D audio to the green power cells. It would make finding them a bit easier, and less of "a shot in the dark".

Overall though great work!

Developer

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a nice idea to add 3D audio. I'll work on that. 😊

Nice concept,  I love the mario galaxy  vibe.

Maybe bring closer the camera to the player, is hard to see the enemy coming up front.

The flash light popup is misleading because it has a close button on the corner "x" so the first thing I tried was to click it, but there is no mouse visible .

The "ESC" key feels like a more natural way of closing popups at least on windows, Maybe add a small text to indicate the player how to close it: "press enter to continue" but that's just my opinion :P

The loading bar showing the progress is really cool, I didn't manage to get the right progress percent on my game because it was loading too fast, nice job.

Thank you for your suggestion about putting a note on how to proceed when the popup comes out. The mouse cursor should come out if you press escape and the popup should close if you press any key, it's working on windows but on Mac I guess it's not.

Yeah I'm considering adding another camera view option which is near to the character.

Regarding the loading bar, there's a background loading demo on Godot's asset library, you can try to take a look on how it was implemented.

I'm really digging the art style and the Mario Galaxy-ish vibe the game gives off. I hope you continue to work on the game as its could really have a place in my library when its further along!

Developer

Thanks for trying out the game. Yes, I'll continue to work on this game and add more levels and mechanics to the game.

Nice game; A really impressive entry for your first Jam!

The art style is really appealing and cute. The music is pleasant, upbeat and fits the game nicely.

I had an issue - I’m using a Mac - where I couldn’t close the popup box/window that tells you about turning on the flashlight, so I wasn’t able to progress very far in the game.

How did you manage to export the game as a single, playable, file? I couldn’t work it out from following the export instructions - I always ended up with two files. Could you point me towards the steps you followed (the instructions you used), please?

Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying out the game and thanks for reporting a bug on Mac, I haven't tested it on a Mac machine though, but I'll try to fix it soon.

To export your game into a single file, you just need to check the options under binary format Embed pck for Windows and Linux. Hope it helps. 😊

The lighting is great! The green things are a bit difficult to find and I'm not sure why I am able to jump. Also jumping cancels out any forward momentum I had. The characters looks cute and it was pretty fun to play.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Yeah, I purposely stop the forward movement when jumping because it resets the character's rotation to zero, I need to fix that bug.

I like the aesthetic of this game! It has a lot of potential, when you solve one world I guess you could jump to another world as the next level? I couldn't get all the green things so I don't actually know how it ends. Thanks for making :)

Developer(+1)

That was supposed to be my plan to jump to another planet after collecting the 3 green things but I was not able to implement it because I ran out of time, I'll add more planets after the voting ends. Anyways, thanks for playing 😊

Good start for a 3d platformer, nice job. I found if I jumped, I immediately lost any horizontal movement. Also, aside from obviously letting you see better, does the flashlight have any function? Like drawing enemies in or anything?

Developer(+1)

Yes, I stop the horizontal movement when jumping because it resets the character rotation everytime it jumps and I forgot to fix it 😁 I'll try to fix and improve it. Regarding the flashlight, yeah there's no special function aside from lighting, but you gave me an idea to add a special feature to it. Thanks for the feedback 😊

Great job! I absolutely love the egg astronaut suite! I want a close up render of him hahaha! The smooth camera follow was a nice touch.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks bro! Will try to make a close up render of the character..hahaha

Btw, your game looks awesome too, I'll test it later after work. I was also planning to make an asteroid hit the planet but I run out of time. lol
