What a beautiful story. Brought a tear to my eye. I liked the art, gave it a relaxing feel to the game. The audio helped as well.

I enjoyed playing this game.

Cool story of about plant matter and texting choice making. Unfortunately, different choices doesn't affect the ending, I've tried the most energetic, positive choice and the a bit tired, indifferent choice as responses to Kath, I thought it will be drastically different so that the plant might be either grown up or withered away. If the author had made this different, it will kind of meet the "uncontrollable" theme. But it does meet the "Growth" though...

Well, this is another interesting game to play in this jam!

Thank you for playing! I did have plans to have different endings, but I was running out of time so I decided not to do that. I also thought more about the theme - if you are able to choose a different ending, it’s controllable. So I thought that would clash with the theme more. As it is right now, it’s uncontrollable in the sense of - whatever options you pick don’t really effect the ending.

No, you're crying. SHEEEEEEEEESH Kenneth.

This was a really great story game, great simple message at the end too. I wish I could've made more decisions in the middle, but I get that those branching stories can get complicated. I enjoyed how you used the plant as a message in this game - You took the "growth" theme to a level I didn't even think of. Thanks for the great emotional game.

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this game a lot as I am also quite a sucker for this genre. The music was relaxing and fitting, and the story was good for a jam. Although I would have absolutely loved it if I got more  choices to make.

It is entirely unfair, touching people's heartstrings like that! :) I found almost everything perfect. Only improvement I can think of is theming the scroll bar on the phone. It kinda looks out of place, style-wise.

Pow! Right in the feels!

Thanks for this submission, really great work.

My only suggestion would be to avoid mixing pixel sizes in the pixel art. The text and the background art use different pixel sizes, and the outlines of the text boxes appear to be high resolution (not pixelated at all). Strictly a consistency thing, awesome work regardless.

glad you enjoyed it! yeah, the pixel sizes are related to the font. I went pretty low with it (the game is 64x128), so the text needed to be more dynamic. The text boxes are actually just a style applied to labels, so they are also in high res. there is probably another way to do them though.

Congrats on your entry! :)

For a short story, I feel like the characters were a bit dull, and the choices felt meaningless as they were often the same.

I would have liked to have some more agency in the game.

Developer

thank you! I agree, those are the worst parts of the game. I think if I had more “days” in it and fleshed out the characters / dialogue some more it could be better. I planned on having two different endings but was running out of time.

Yeah it happens all the time in jams, so no worries. :)

The idea is there, maybe you can keep working on it if you feel like it!

You're just gonna come in here and make me feel all sad n' stuff? :C

Love your interpretation on the theme, love the short story you told and the way you show and didn't tell anything. The whole game filled me with dread, and although I haven't been cheated on, the experience of having someone close to you grow apart is something universal.

You really hit the nail on the head, and through the whole game I was just filled with dread and sadness. But, I liked that it made me feel those emotions.

I really liked this game. Although, I don't see why anyone would chose the negative options, but maybe that's just how I am.

Now, Ima go appreciate the people in my life,  thank you very much.

I’m glad you liked it so much! Showing and not telling is definitely my favorite thing to try and do, glad it got through successfully.

This game made me sad, but I think maybe that's what you were going for.
