Visually this game is beautiful - has such a nice relaxing feel to it, I love the ocean. I only knew what to do after looking at the comments - so definitely would have been great to have a prompt on the surface or UI somewhere to just remind the player of to press or even just give a break down of why we are on the ship. I found myself just exploring the deep ocean, which was really fun - but I personally wasn't sure if I was meant to do anything other than just continue going further down? Great job though, very fun!
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you had fun! At the moment, there isn't much else to do except for exploring deeper, but I do plan on updating this game in the future.
Took me some time to figure out I was supposed to press tab in the beginning, but afterwards I was very impressed by the graphics, the underwater world looks beautiful and the chill exploring/picture taking vibe suits it very well
I think if you had some screenshots on the submission page I would have discovered your game way earler :D
Great job
Thanks! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I've had people tell me that the graphics and art look nice and I'm glad considering this is my first submitted game.
I would've put screenshots had I thought about it some more, I kinda just wanted to get the project submitted lol.
I believe you can still add some screenshots at this point, I think we're allowed to modify the game page, just no reuploads of the game itself
Lots of fun, well made.
very nice idea and art. definitely has potential to be an enjoyable full game. but i agree it would be nice to be able to see photo values and have the photos do something after returning to the surface
I figured i should put this in the submissions page for people who don't see the actual game page:
Controls:
WASD: Move
Space: Jump
C: Toggle Camera Mode
F: Toggle Flashlight/flash in camera
Tab: Return to surface/dive
LMB: Take photo
Esc: Open menu
could not move my character at the starting screen using WASD or arrow keys on windows (itch desktop client)
I probably should have been more specific, but you're supposed to press tab to switch between going between the ship and diving
ah I got it. this is a great idea! a pokemon snap-like game where you're taking pictures of ocean life is a really fun idea, and I like how you've implemented it here so far. you could even include things like higher scoring for fish in the center of the frame, or extra points for getting close up shots of dangerous fish. I think there's a lot of ways you could go with it
There wasn't a ton of incentive to take pictures in this version so far, as you can't view your pictures and the score doesn't get tracked anywhere. but taking the camera out and snapping pictures was fun anyway. the tilemap and sprites looked really nice as well. nice work!
A lil' deep diving photo taking game is such a fun concept! It'd be nice to see a little bit more information on how the photo values are being calculated, maybe a photo scoring review after you return from the dive or a little more info on the user interface.
I will say it was not intuitive to me that I needed to press 'tab' to start the dive to play the game, and only figured that out by going through the game page and pressing all the buttons (at first I though the game was broken since none of the other controls did anything while on the boat). A "Press Tab to Start!" box on screen or some similar display of what button to press would be good on the boat.
yeah, in hindsight telling players how to play in-game would've been a good idea, I kind of rushed to get it out in time for the jam lol
I think something was wrong, I could get the game to open and display the scene with the guy standing on the boat but I could not figure out how to make anything move or happen.
You need to press tab to switch between the boat and the diving portion of the game
