Game Description
Pick up berries and fight of hungry encounters

How does your game tie into the theme?
turn based combat has random outcomes, at the end of the game items have consequences of their use. I'ts a very loose match for the theme, I know. Also the wildcard for sleeping is loosely tied to the day ending and store showing mechanic.

I've learned that if I eat all the berries, I can get myself out of any...jam.

Sheesh...that was a bad pun XD

Fun game!

This is has a really charming retro style to it! i love all the animal sprites and dialog in combat. The text is really hard to read though, so scaling that up would help a lot. good job!

Developer

Thank you!
I think I need to look into how to make the text scale more bigger. Maybe add it as a option in the menu. anyway the UI was basic default Godot stuff. Also the size of rendered window may have effected it to look small maybe on some screens. I didn't spend much time tweaking it as I was busy making the gameplay loop. When I was done with that I did add those animal sprites that I draw myself. And added some sound effects and animations for the sprites and transition between scenes. At that point I was so done with this one. :D Also life got in a way, but that's what happens. :)

Thank you for your kind words! I almost didn't submit the game, but I'm glad I did.

Great retro style! Unfortunately there are y-sorting errors and the text is small and tiring for me to read. The daily mechanics are interesting. I would have liked more attack animations. The fact that you have different actions for each opponent makes the game remind me more of Undertale than Pokémon.

Developer

Thanks for your comment!

y-sorting errors? maybe you are referring to the tilemap I made. I made it so fast and didn't bother fixing it later. Of course if it were a real game you would polish that to work correctly and look nice.

Maybe I should have made the combat more like in Undertale. More interactive. It would have been more fun probably. To me after testing this bunch of times this got boring real fast and I got blinded about what is fun and what is not. Almost didn't submit it at all. But I'm glad I did.

hint: There is also some items that are more effective to each enemy type.

I liked the atmosphere. The game is very simple but well rounded and engaging. Good job! By the way, staying still and quiet should be way better than running away from a bear. Unless you get something stuck in your throught I guess.

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah that would have been more logical for the bear. There's item though that the bear likes, so I overshoot this idea about being still.
