Cool game! I included it in my Godot Community Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Interesting mechanics, some puzzles, some arcade, easter eggs (pure luck that I found them), what else do you want from a nice platformer? Nice job, I would like to see more levels. Oh, and mysterious story, ok, maybe that I can add to the list ;)
I like the thematic approach and the clean and pleasant artstyle. The mechanics are clever but could need refinement as outhers pointed out.
Fantastic job! The way the theme alters the mechanics is great and can make for tons of great puzzles. The only place I had trouble was in the jumping level - when you're hot you're soooo bouncy! :P
I would have appreciated some sound effects - freezing/steam sounds when you change state, for example.
Great concept - please keep working on it!
Thanks!
I'm definitely planning on completing it now that it got many positive reviews!
Great work! I've thoroughly enjoyed the game mechanics and the level design is nice (that jump-far platforms level is a bit frustrating though as it's too sensitive). Nice work on the graphics too. Some sound effects would be cool, but heh, there's only so much you can do in 3 days.
I could well see this turned into a full game with a vibe à la Thomas Was Alone :)
Thanks, glad you liked it!
No sound is blamed on my laziness. It would've taken only 30 minutes to fire up BFXR, create some samples, add to Godot and code.
Thomas Was Alone is always an inspiration for platformers, but it's more focusing on storytelling. Also graphically I started with pixel art (like you can see the detail of pipes), but that would've taken a lot of time (I wasted 6 hours perfecting tiles, only the pipes made it through).
Nice job!
Really clever temperature mechanic, the platform dynamics could be improved but nice idea!
Good mechanics and would be very interesting to see a more polished version. I really like the zooming in and out with velocity. I might try to use that in the future. Unfortunately I failed to find easter eggs.
Hmm, guess i'm dumb, i can't go trough the second level :D what is that underground connection suposed to do?
It's a thermometer. It will activate when the blocks it is placed on reach certain temperature.
For this level you have to cool off the blocks. It takes a few visits to the cold steam and back. :P
I didn't balance out that level properly. I'll change it after jam voting ends.
Hm, managed to find both easter eggs before actually getting the game mechanics down...
Yup, second easter egg can be get in 2 ways, one with, one without mechanics. Congrats!
Yeah, but then you can't get back to the main level if you used the no-heat mechanics :P
Since you've successfully found the second one AND made an achieving observation, you get...
Wonderful puzzle game. I hope to see more development in the future. :) Also please make game controller controls too!
The heat mechanic is brilliant, the level design is great, and the visual presentation is appealingly minimal. A bit of ambient sound would have been nice, though.
Now that was fun!
Fantastic game. Every new level introduces a new mechanic, a new way the player interacts with temperature. It could become a very cool puzzle platformer!
Level 3 was confusing at first because the blocks were cooling down soooo damn slowly, i didnt even realize it had ANY effect to stand on them.
I would have loved some music and SFX, or maybe even some more advanced graphics, But in the end it didnt really matter. Gameplay was top notch!
I really like the concept of this game. Great theme interpretation and deep yet simple mechanics ^^
Please do not use RigidBody in platformer! The character should not bounce of the wall! Use a KineticBody and write your own controller instead! Search for "platformer controller" on youtube.
Hey buckle2000,
I am not using RigidBody! I am using KinematicBody2D and I've manually programmed bouncing.
The character is some sort of a blob that is slightly bouncy. The bounciness factor is increased or decreased based on your temperature. The game (well, the idea of it since it's not finished) is about modifying your temperature and sacrificing certain characteristics in favor of others.
I think the bounciness is nice and very well done personally :)
