How does your game fit the theme?
The main character, a young wizard apprentice, gets zapped to an abandoned post-apocalypse version of his world where he is isolated from his Master, other people and his ability to use magic since it does not work in this world.

Note: An uploading error caused the game to not allow you to enter the cave at the end or even go home. Shared a hurriedly recorded vid in Drive showing those scenes: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vEQGVzhgPfxkGFvfZlCiQE9qQhHMVrV3/view?usp=drive_link

Great story , the art was good too , the story was a bit long and slow , but I am not the best at story games so my opinion is from a novice perspective , overall good job !

kudos

I loved this story. You have excellent writing skills. Too bad the game wasn't complete but I've watched the video. A suggestion: for a jam I would avoid making the player start over. It's a lot of text to click through. I didn't know that you could save until later on. I enjoyed this very much, thanks.

Developer

Thank you. Glad you really liked the story. Sorry you had to start over. I had made a note at the beginning to be sure to save often, but maybe should have mentioned how to get to the save menu. Guess I can also give the player the option to skip the intro.

Nice story 😁!

GAMEPLAY
This was a fun story to experience. There was a lot of text to click through and read, which is typical for this genre of course and the story naturally made the game what it was.  I experienced a few unfortunate deaths and often forgot to save, but overall, the gameplay was engaging and fun to progress further and further. I knew about the ending and watched the video, and kudos for including all the other jam themes in it😁!

ART STYLE / VISUALS
The pixel art was very cohesive and well-suited to the game. Read that it was crafted in a special RPG engine I did not yet know of. Learned something again.

AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The sound design matched the art style and contributed well to the story and atmosphere.

INNOVATION
While not particularly innovative, the game was enjoyable and engaging, especially in how the story unfolded.

THEME
The theme of isolation was effectively addressed in the storyline.

Overall a job well done for this Jam. You told us a good story!
Nice that you joined us once again and hope to see many nice games in the future jams also.
Keep up the good work 💪.

Neat little RPG, I'm a big fan of time travel stories so I was pretty invested, shame with the version that got uploaded because the little cave with the witch and going back looked interesting, and I like the idea of having to manage depleting mana/energy every night with a bit of resource management. I noticed many grammatical and spelling errors, but the dialogue itself flowed pretty well, nice work!

Developer

Thanks. I really had to rush at the end, so that point especially had a lot of spelling errors. Besides having the ending working properly, spelling is one of the first things I want to have fixed after the jam and I have already gone through and corrected a lot.

Haven't seen many games made in Wolf. Good game tho.

I like the setting and the story a lot, a magician in a magic-free world. I probably missed something but is there any actual use to the mana potions and the food? The protag said his Mana was going down but in the menu it looked like it was full. I still used it but I was unsure if they changed anything. I'm usually not a fan of sudden deaths by exploration, but you did warn us to save often so it wasn't nearly as much of a hassle as it could've been. Unfortunately I got stuck at the statue in the snow biome as well.

EDIT: I've watched the google drive video of the ending and now I'm sad it didn't work in the final version. Really cool game, would love to see more!

Developer

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the game. I'm going to upload a version with the ending working properly after the jam. I'd like to say I'll also have the mana potions incorporated in that version, but I've done enough jams to know there is a good chance I won't have all the features I missed implemented in that timeframe. I did mention in the intro mana and food were not properly implemented, but that might have gone by.

The original intent was that a key mechanic would be Toru needs to keep his energy/food and magic levels high enough they won't deplete overnight, hence why the game starts with Toru needing to fetch food and mana. Near the end of the jam, I thought I would just focus on mana, but even that got kicked out due to time constraints. That's why the whole losing mana over time plot point became reduced to Toru feeling drained and saying he needed a potion the next morning. I'd also wanted Toru to camp in the cave so you'd have to survive two nights.

I couldn’t get past the shrine on top of the mountain, if I said “leave” it would just make a sound and that was it. Also a little cave that I would’ve been down to squeeze into and explore but wasn’t given the option? The insta-deaths are a little silly but if you know they’re there and saves are plentiful it’s no big deal.

Dunno if I’m missing something about how to advance, but was curious to see where the story was going to end up. Good job! Wolf seems like a neat engine to use.

Developer

Strange. I thought I fixed those. I thought the final version had those working. It works in my editor file. Let me check the uploaded version.

Darn! I must have somehow exported it before I got it properly finished. Interacting with the angel is supposed to send you to a present day, version of the shrine and a brief conversation with the wizard. And the cave had Marabell's ghost who explained the mystery of the world and an easter egg I had a lot of fun making. Maybe I'll make a video of the end of the game so people can at least see what was supposed to happen.

The game jam curse D: Yeah I think it’s a cool idea to make a lil vid showing what the intent was :)

Developer

There. It's a low quality recording and it didn't even pick up the sound track, but here's the ending. You should be able watch it right in Drive.

oh cool!

Is the idea that the people who were trying to stop her from doing her research were following the instructions she gave you, in like a fatalistic time loop thing?
